AJ Saves The Day; Gil Close

This was going to be a bad loss.  But on a night where nothing seemed to be going right, the Wizards persevered and got a very important win against a team they should have beaten.

layups were rolling out, the countless jump shots the Wiz took were in and out, they missed a ton of free throws, but in the end the heroics of Antawn Jamison won this game for Washington.

Jamison struggled at times, but down by 4 with 7 seconds to go, he hit a leaning three pointer to get the Wiz within one.  Then, he got fouled trying a game-tying 3 and hit all 3 foul shots with under 3 seconds to go to tie the game.  For a guy who struggled a bit at the line recently, that was huge.

But he wasn’t done.  Jamison hit back to back 3’s in overtime to give the Wiz control and get them the win.  The rest of the team did just enough and they overcame the loss of Brendan Haywood (never thought I’d say that!), who sat out with an injury.

So, big win indeed.  Now onto some other news.  Gilbert Arenas once again had some interesting things to say before the game.  He is planning on getting an MRI on Tuesday to make sure that his knee is fine and if it is, he says he’ll be ready to go as soon as next weekend.  Wow.  Of course, this was news to Eddie Jordan, but who knows what Gil will say tomorrow or the next day.  I do think that we should see him back on the court in the next 2 weeks though.  We could definitely use him on that west coast trip that is sure to go a long way in determining where the Wiz finish.

The 76ers continue to win and they are only 1 game behind the Wiz right now.  However, the Wiz are only 1 game behind Toronto for 5th in the conference, so it should be a wild end to the regular season.
