Post-Draft Lotto Rumors and ideas for the Wiz
- Rumor 1: Chicago will trade Kirk Hinrich to Miami and pick Derrick Rose as their point guard of the future. (si.com)- Idea: Since the Heat would probably draft Michael Beasley in this situation, the Wizards could offer their 18th pick and Etan Thomas or Songalia for Udonis Haslem; if they were unabale to re-sign Jamison. Haslem is a very underrated shooter, rebounder and defender on the low block. The Heat would likely move him to the bench after drafting Beasley; a position Haslem does not deserve. He would make many teams pay for doubling Butler and Arenas with his consistent baseline jumpshot and he is relatively young (27 years old). Assuming we re-signed both Jamison and Arenas, here’s how our new starting line-up would look:
PG - Arenas
SG - Stevenson
SF - Butler
PF - Haslem
C - Haywood
**They could also make a run at Shawn Marion, but he would cost a lot more; so the Wizards would probably opt to re-sign Jamison.
- Rumor 2: Denver is shopping both Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby (si.com)
- Idea: Since Melo and Butler play virtually the same position, the Wizards would probably shy away from trading for him. Camby on the other hand would be an enormous upgrade over Haywood. The Wizards could package their 18th pick with Haywood and another piece (if necessary) for the services of Mr. Camby; who happens to be second in rebounding (13.1 per game) and first in blocks (3.61 per game). The only downside is the fact that he is 34 years old, so the Wizards could not offer him more than a 2 or 3 year deal.
- Rumor 3: Zach Randolph is on the trading block (espn.com)
- Idea: If the Wizards do not re-sign Jamison, trade for Z-bo.
Thoughts???

First of all….Z-Bo has four types of cancer: Mind, Salary, Heart, and Defense. He has 3 years, $48 million left on his contract…with that money, you could sign Jamison AND another strong piece.
Camby? Not only is he 34….and I do realize that he’s been relatively healthy the past two years….but as he gets older, I’d be very weary of him returning to his old ways (like his first 10 years in the NBA when he averaged 54.6 games per year) — Camby played 70 and 79 games in the last two seasons respectively.
In addition, Camby makes $11.250 million next year….Haywood makes $5.5 million….so you’d probably have to add Etan to make it work.
I like Haslem, but I think Miami wants to keep him (even with Beasley in the fold - their only other bigs are Earl Barron and Mark Blount)…..and Pat Riley probably would not consider the 18th and D-Song or Etan enough.

Thanks for the analysis Truth. So what trade possibilities do you see the Wizards attempting?

No disrespect to Etan, but who would want him right now? The guy is untradeable, so why even bring him up.
The Wiz have major cap issues. They cannot add much more salary as they are up against the luxury tax threshold and Abe will not go over that. If they keep Jamison and Arenas, it will take a major Grunfeld miracle to get another big time player.

I like the Camby idea and here’s how it could possibly be sold. It’s looking like there’s a chance Roy Hibbert could still be available at #18, if he is the Wizards should draft him. Then call up Denver and offer Hibbert, Haywood and Antonio Daniels for Camy and their 1st round pick two slots down at #20 with which the Wizards could draft a Mario Chalmers or Ty Lawson if either is still available.
I’m not scared by Camby’s age. The Wizards need to start thinking about winning now (without jeopardizing their future) and Camby could signify that. The best part is, with this proposal he could be attained without really having to sacrifice too much. Plus acquiring a young PG to develop alongside Young, Blatche and the rest of the youngsters could be a very smart move.
(for the record, I believe that if Roy Hibbert is there the Wizards should take him, trade or no trade.)

How about trade the 18th pick, daniels, blatche for chris wilcox and Seattle’s pick. I think that both Blatche and Wilcox could use a change of scenery
