<title>Cavs, Anderson Varejao Agree on Six-Year, $42.5 Million Deal; Also Add Guard Anthony Parker</title>
<description><![CDATA[<span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline;"><img alt="Anderson_Varejao_NBA.jpg" src="http://mvn.com/cavalierattitude/Anderson_Varejao_NBA.jpg" class="mt-image-none" style="" width="400" height="300" /></span><br /><br />The dollar amount per year (about $7 million per) makes sense. But six years?<br /><br />That's the length of the deal agreed upon between Varejao, who once said that he'll never play for the Cavs again the last time he was a free agent, and GM Danny Ferry. Incentives can push the deal to about $50 million over the life of the contract.<br /><br />And as is the custom with Ferry's negotiations, the last year of the deal for the 2014-15 season (yeah, you're going to be seeing Andy for <i>that </i>much longer) is only partially guaranteed.<br /><br />This signing came on the same day that the Cavs reportedly agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent guard Anthony Parker, <a href="http://mvn.com/cavalierattitude/2009/07/welcome-the-newest-cavalier-anthony-parker.html">as detailed by Smooth earlier.</a> Parker, at 6'6", gives the team a tall body on the perimeter and exceptional backcourt depth behind Mo Williams and Delonte West.<br /><br />The Cavs had said since Day 1 of free agency that keeping Varejao around was their priority. Now, he's pretty much a Cav for life (something we wish we could say about LeBron, but that's another story), as the deal will take him through the end of the prime of his career. He also gets long-term financial security as well as a slight pay raise from the $6.2 million he would have made had he picked up his player option for next season.<br /><br /><b>It is alarming how many people across the internet don't like this deal. If you are one of those people, that's exactly why you don't have a job in an NBA front office and are instead sitting behind a computer taking shots at a guy who does. </b><br /><br />The Cavs were out of options, and they have an old front court. If you have taken Economics, you know that one of the first things they teach you is supply and demand. The supply of young big men under 30 who are above-average defenders and rebounders was paper-thin. For the Cavs, the demand was extremely high, especially considering their lack of cap space and the age of Shaquille O'Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. <br /><br />In fact, if they had lost Varejao, they wouldn't have a single power forward on their roster (tell me you're comfortable starting Darnell Jackson or J.J. Hickson's back problems over Varejao). Name one big man younger than 30 who averaged at least 8.6 and 7.2 while being a sharp defender for a good defensive team and could have reasonably been had this summer (<i>reasonably </i>being the key word, please).<br /><br />It is unfortunate that with these Cavs, we will too often link them with the six games of the Eastern Conference Finals instead of the joyful 66-win season and the best record in the NBA. Yes, they didn't win the whole thing, but they were easily the third-best team in the league behind L.A. and Orlando, and Varejao had a <i>lot </i>to do with it. <br /><br />There are at least 26 other teams who would have loved to have their season end the way that the Cavs' season did, and not a single fan could sit here and say that they expected the team to accomplish what they did this past season.<br /><br />Big guys don't just grow on trees, and too often they get overpaid. Nene, another Dan Fegan client, got six years and $60 million three summers ago for playing a role similar to Varejao's. My only issue with this deal is the six years, not the dollar amount. With the salary cap going down next season, free agency in 2010 will not be the way to go to add talent to this team.<br /><br />Also, if you have followed the Cavs for the last five years, then you know that Varejao's impact absolutely cannot be quantified by numbers and statistics. <a href="http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-28-259/Bad-Use-of-Statistics-is-Killing-Anderson-Varejao.html">ESPN's TrueHoop put together this spectacular piece on Andy and statistics back in November of 2007</a> when Varejao was in the midst of his controversial holdout.<br /><br />As for Parker, the 6'6", 215-pounder and brother of the more well-known Candace Parker of the WNBA was a target of Ferry's after coming over from Europe in the 2006 offseason, when the Cavs settled for David Wesley. Parker ended up signing a three-year contract with the Toronto Raptors and missing out on a trip to the NBA Finals, a Game 7 of the second round (or the second round altogether, considering he played for Toronto), a 66-win season, and a 39-2 home record.<br /><br />If all works out for him, he could be joining the Cavs at the perfect time: just when they're about to win an NBA championship.<br /><br />Last season, Parker played in 80 games, started 71, and averaged 10.7 points in 33 minutes per game. The year before, he played and started in all 82 games and put up a career-high 12.5 points. He also shot 39 percent (94-for-241) from 3-point range last year after shooting 43.8 percent (133-for-304) the year before.<br /><br />If he replicates those numbers in Cleveland, the Cavs are really set. Having that kind of length and production for the first guard off the bench would be phenomenal for the Cavs, who lacked that from guys like Wally Szczerbiak and Sasha Pavlovic in the past. That's who Parker will replace, and if he's scoring 10 points off the bench behind Mo and Delonte, then this signing will be money by Ferry.<br /><br />The Cavs will now have to replace Ben Wallace as the backup power forward, and former Knick and Trail Blazer Channing Frye is the odds-on favorite to win that distinction. While I am not at all a fan of Frye's after watching him for the last two years in Portland, you can't argue with a backup role for the former lottery pick. <br /><br />Cleveland would also, for once, be getting younger in the front court after adding a 37-year old Shaq and moving a 34-year old Z to the bench.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=channing%20frye&amp;iid=3035751" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/4/0/e/1/ed.JPG?adImageId=1825131&amp;imageId=3035751" alt="NBA: DEC 11 Trail Blazers at Jazz" width="500" border="0" height="331" /></a><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js"></script>
<em><br /><strong>Could Channing Frye (middle) be the Cavs latest free agent target?</strong></em></div>

<br />In what's been a wild and crazy past few days, here's the latest in what's going on in the Cavs world.<br /><br /><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Cavs Assistant Moving On </b></font><br /><br />After Avery Johnson and Joe Dumars could not come to terms on becoming the next Detroit Pistons head coach, Dumars turned to a familiar face <a href="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/nba/07/07/pistons.coach/index.html">and has picked Cavaliers assistant John Kuester as the next Pistons head coach</a>. <br /><br /><blockquote><p><b>The Detroit Pistons
have agreed to terms with Cavaliers assistant coach John Kuester to be
their new head coach, a source with knowledge of the negotiations told
SI.com.</b></p><p><b>Another league source said the contract was for two seasons with a team option for a third year.</b></p></blockquote> <p>Kuester has been with the team since 2007, when he replaced Kenny Natt on Mike Brown's staff.</p><p>Kuester has been credited in revamping the team's lowly offense and turning it into a much improved unit. He served as the de facto "offensive coordinator" on Mike Brown's staff and handled a lot of the offensive duties last year.</p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>LeBron Denies Commitment To Ariza</b></font></p><p>The 2010 circus continues to grow.</p><p>After Trevor Ariza claimed that LeBron told him he was staying past the 2010 season, <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/07/source_close_to_lebron_james_d.html">LeBron's camp came out and denied that</a>.</p><blockquote><p><b>According to a source close to LeBron James, the current NBA Most
Valuable Player did not tell free agent Trevor Ariza that he was for
sure going to be with the Cavaliers past 2010.</b></p></blockquote><p>So what's the real story here?</p><p>My best guess is that what Ariza said is probably true and LeBron's camp is trying to cover this up and act like nothing happened. Ariza has nothing to gain from putting this out in the press so why would he make this stuff up? It's not likely he did. <br /></p><p>So why did LeBron's camp deny this if he's staying? This just seems like LeBron trying to keep things close to the vest and keep the media guessing, which he seems to love to do. <br /></p><p>So even though the Cavs missed out on Ariza, more good news came from this than any other "loss" the Cavs have had this off-season.</p><p>(P.S. - the secret meeting in Los Angeles that Ferry and Brown went to, was supposedly to meet with Ariza to sway him to coming to the Cavs. Ariza supposedly considered signing with the Cavs, after agreeing with the Rockets, but decided to stay with Houston.)<br /></p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Marion To Mavs, Not Cavs</b></font></p><p>The Cavs were supposedly interested in adding Shawn Marion <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4310011&amp;campaign=rss&amp;source=NBAHeadlines">but not it appears he'll be heading to Texas</a>.</p><blockquote><p><b>The Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, according to NBA front-office sources, are in advanced discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would bring Marion to Dallas.</b></p></blockquote><p>Shawn Marion and his agent, Dan Fegan, have been looking for a deal somewhere in the range of $10 million per year and they're not going to get that on the open market so the only way to get that money is through a sign-and-trade.</p><p>The most the Cavs could have offered for Marion was their full MLE (around $5.8 million). The Cavs weren't also likely to offer him long-term security, which could have been another sticking point.</p><p>While Marion could have added some much needed talent to the Cavs lineup, the fit would be questionable. Marion is best suited in an up-tempo offense where his size and shooting ability are disguised and his athletic ability is highlighted. Putting him in a half-court offense would highlight and disguise all the wrong things.<br /></p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Ferry Is After Frye</b></font></p><p>With the "stretch" power forward market starting to thin out, the Cavs have started to <a href="http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/07/nba_source_cleveland_cavaliers.html">set their sights on a long time Danny Ferry favorite in Channing Frye</a>.</p><blockquote><p><b>After making a free-agent scouting trip to Los Angeles on Sunday, Cavs
GM Danny Ferry came home and hosted free-agent power forward Channing
Frye on Monday at the team's practice facility in Independence. Frye is
the type of "stretch" forward the Cavs are interested in during the
free-agent period as they look to find big men who can hit jumpers when
teams collapse on LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal.</b></p></blockquote><p>While Frye may not be the name that most fans would want to see in connection with the Cavs, the PF options are starting to slim out and it's looking like if the Cavs want a decent, well-priced, stretch PF, then this is likely to be their best bet.</p><p>After having a breakout rookie season in New York, Frye was shipped off to Portland where he struggled to play and produce behind guys like LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla. <br /></p><p>Frye is a guy that Ferry has been very high on for a long time, similarly too Delonte West, and could be a guy that the Cavs may ultimately end up with.</p><p>The Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns are also supposedly in the running, with the Suns being the rumored favorites to land Frye's services.</p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>McDyess Would Be Nice</b></font><br /></p><p>Another one of the Cavs top PF targets is former Detroit Piston, Antonio McDyess.</p><p>McDyess is reportedly waiting until the Pistons have a new head coach to make a decision on whether or not he wants to re-sign with the Pistons.</p><p>In addition to the Pistons being interested, the Cavs (supposedly have offered their full MLE over two years), Magic and Spurs have McDyess in their sights, with the Spurs being the favorites as of now.<br /></p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Hey LeBron! Your Boy J-Kidd Even Rejected The Knicks!</b></font></p><p>Yep, LeBron's "boy", Jason Kidd, turned down the Mecca of Basketball and the best city in the whole wide world (sarcasm) <a href="The%20free%20agent%20point%20guard%20has%20agreed%20to%20sign%20a%20three-year%20contract%20for%20more%20than%20$25%20million%20to%20remain%20with%20Dirk%20Nowitzki%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20Mavericks.%20The%20New%20York%20Knicks%20were%20among%20Kidd%27s%20suitors.">to stay in Dallas, Texas</a>.</p><blockquote><p><b>The free agent point guard has agreed to sign a three-year contract for
more than $25 million to remain with Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the
Mavericks. The New York Knicks were among Kidd's suitors. </b><br /></p></blockquote><p>The Knicks were supposedly offering Kidd a similar deal, which was seemingly in opposition of their plan to clear as much cap space for the 2010 off-season as possible. The Knicks probably saw this as an opportunity to get one of LeBron's friends in New York, so they could make it easier for him to leave Cleveland.</p><p>So let's hope LeBron takes a page of his buddies book and does the same thing as J-Kidd: turn down NY to stay with his current team.</p><p><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Wade 'I'll Stay If They Contend'</b></font></p><p>Looks like Dwyane Wade is taking a stand about his future in Miami.</p><blockquote><p><b>"I'm going to listen. I owe the Miami Heat
that much. I'm going to listen to what they have to say and I'm going
to think about it," Wade told The Associated Press. "But right now, the
way I feel, I want to make sure that we're on track to where I want us
to be on track to before I sign back."</b></p><p><b>. . . . . . . . . . . . . . <br /></b></p><p><b>"I'm good with that," Wade said, "for one year."</b></p><p><b>Another season around .500, though, won't be as enticing.</b></p><b>"That's not enough for me," said Wade.</b><br /><b>. . . . . . . . . . . . . . </b><br /><br /><b>I've told Coach Riley this: All my life, all I've ever wanted to do is
win and be put in a position where I can win and succeed," Wade said.
"Build me a team. Put the pressure on me to win a championship. Give me
a team and say, 'All right, you've got to go do it,' and I'll take that
pressure. Give me guys that we feel can compete every year to win a
championship. I don't want to go anywhere else."</b><br /><b>. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .</b><br /><b>"I want to make sure that we stay competitive and we have an
opportunity to win championships, like I've done before," Wade said. "I
don't want to be content with winning games. I don't want to win games.
I want to win championships. That's what I'm all about."</b><br /></blockquote>Looks like Wade is a bit unhappy about being on a team that doesn't exactly have a championship caliber future.<br /><br />So if Wade and LeBron have similar minds, does that mean LeBron is staying in Cleveland then?<br /><br /><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Cavs In Contact With Linas Kleiza</b><br /><br /></font>One of the more interesting names mentioned this off-season in connection with the Cavs, could be forward Linas Kleiza.<br /><br />Kleiza, a restricted free agent, has supposedly been in contact with the Cavs, as well as the Toronto Raptors throughout this free agency period.<br /><br />Kleiza, a Lithuanian, is a very interesting player. He's a swing forward with good shooting ability. But his ability to put points on the board fast, along with this potential, is perhaps his best trait. He doesn't exactly fit into the defensive mold that Mike Brown likes but Kleiza has the potential to develop into a decent defender with the Cavs.<br /><br />Kleiza is only 24 years old and has a lot of room left to grow. For the right price, he could be a nice piece to develop and have come off the bench to provide some bench scoring, something the Cavs sorely lacked last year.<br /><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b><br />Drew Gooden Wouldn't Mind The Cavs?</b><br /><b><br /></b></font><blockquote><b>DrewGooden The teams I wouldn't mind going to, Spurs, Cav's, Magic, and Golden St! What do you guys think?</b><br /><br /></blockquote>What do I think Drew? There aren't enough words in the dictionary to say how I would feel about you coming back. The shortest and nicest word in the dictionary: NO.<br /><br /><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b>Sheed A Celtic</b></font><br /><br />Yet another reason to hate the Celtics.<br /><br /><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4307834">Sheed is going to Boston.</a><br /><br /><blockquote><b>The Boston Globe reported Wallace will sign for two years at the midlevel exception.</b><br /></blockquote>This will be interesting to see how the rest of the Celtics off-season pans out. Leon Power (UFA) and Glen Davis (RFA) are both free agents and it doesn't look like either are expected to be back at this current point in time.<br /><br />This move also let's us know what we already know: the Celtics championship window is closing and closing fast.<br /><br />Even though Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins represent good, young talent on the Celtics, the rest of the core is aging fast. Garnett is 33. Allen is 33. Pierce is 31. <br /><br />Looks like the Cavs won't have to be worrying about the Celtics for too many more years.<br /><font style="font-size: 1.25em;"><b><br />LeBron Gets A Special Invite</b><br /><br /><font style="font-size: 0.8em;"><a href="http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/07/lebron_james_attending_prestig.html">Looks like LeBron and Dan Gilbert are going to get some extra time to bond together</a>....in Idaho.</font><br /></font><br /><blockquote><b>LeBron James will be spending some time with friend Warren
Buffett at the prestigious Allen &amp; Company media industry
conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. </b><p><b> But it wasn't Buffett who got
James and LRMR Marketing CEO Maverick Carter the invite to the
ultra-elite five-day conference that has been labeled as "summer camp
for billionaires." It is a place for executives and movers and shakers
in the media industry to share ideas and sometimes strike major deals. </b></p><p><b> According to a source, James got his extremely hard-to-secure
invite with help from Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert, who will be
attending the event for the seventh consecutive year. Gilbert has been
pushing for James to be included for the last couple years. <br /></b>
</p><b><a href="editor-content.html?cs=utf-8" name="more"></a></b><p><b>James and Gilbert are among about 260 guests and
their families on the guest list, which is expected to include Bill
Gates, Rupert Murdoch, NBA Commissioner David Stern, NFL Commissioner
Roger Goodell, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and NHL Commissioner Gary
Bettmen. </b><br /></p></blockquote>

<p>That pretty much wraps up what has been a crazy free agency period to start and there's going to be a lot more of that still to come. <br /></p>]]></description>

That mere "eye" became "eyes," and the quick sideglance at the team became a stare as the Blazers went on a 13-game winning streak in 2007-08 without Greg Oden, whom they drafted first overall in the 2007 Draft. Oden was out for the year with injuries, but was supposed to return the subsequent season. <br /><br />The next season the Blazers finished fourth in the Western Conference, compiling a 58-24 record, as well as having Greg Oden for 61 games. Unfortunately for the fans in Rip City, the Blazers were ousted from the playoffs by a red-hot Houston Rockets team.<br /><br />They are looking at a number of players to acquire this offseason. Hedo Turkoglu had reportedly been in verbal agreement with the Blazers to sign a contract just days ago, but quickly changed his mind and headed to Toronto to negotiate an eventual monster contract with the Raptors. <br /><br />But in a matter of hours, the Blazers had been mentioned in rumors once again, this time being linked to Knicks forward David Lee.<br /><br />Which raises a question: How good is Portland? <br /> <div><br /></div>]]></description>

<title>NBA Talk: Raptors Get Turk, Celebrate All You Want, No Success Next Year</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Sources were told that Hedo Turkoglu, who recently opted out of a contract with his former team (Orlando Magic), says that he is going to play for the Toronto Raptors and tear up the deal that was going to be made with the Portland TrailBlazers.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">"Yipee!" will be shoutout from many fans of the Raptors, I believe. But I believe there is no point "Yipee-ing," because the Raptors are NOT going to have success next year coming into the 2009-10 season.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Why? I'll tell you why.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">This is the talk, the NBA talk that is.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">"Portland did everything we asked them to do, and they would be justified if they feel aggrieved. He [Hedo Turkoglu] simply decided Toronto was a better fit," said Turkoglu's agent, Len Bobby.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">ESPN.com said that Turk looks to make $53M on a five-year contract.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Although he would have made more money if he had signed Portlant, but however, Turkoglu had more people that were...well Turkish...in Toronto. Turkoglu also had wanted to play in the Eastern Conference still as he'd love to play against his former team, who just added Vince Carter via trade.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">It was also reported that Turkoglu always wanted to play in a city of Toronto with a larger population, like I said, of Turkish people. It is exciting to see the move but there won't be success in the 2009-10 season.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Although you may say they can be successful with the players they have but I believe a very positive chance of Anthony Parker and Shawn Marion that they'll not be coming back to play for the Raptors.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">A source at ESPN.com shows a story that Toronto are moving farther away from a deal with Shawn Marion. And as I was looking at ESPN's Anthony Parker profile, it showed in the status note that with Turkoglu in, Parker may not be coming back as well.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Probably the only person that maybe coming back that ESPN mentioned out of these three players (which would be Parker, Marion, and the next person that'll be named is coming up) is Carlos Defino who averaged nine points per game last year with Toronto.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Carlo Defino looks to start shooting guard maybe which probably makes Hedo Turkoglu coming in at small forward probably. Here's what the depth chart may probably look like coming into next year in the 2009-10 season:</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%"><strong>PG: Jose Calderon</strong></p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%"><strong>SG: Carlos Defino/DeMar DeRozan </strong></p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%"><strong>SF: Hedo Turkoglu</strong></p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%"><strong>PF: Chris Bosh</strong></p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%"><strong>C: Andrea Bargnani</strong></p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">It looks pretty good but I just don't expect Toronto be successful. Sure, it's a good lineup but the rotation isn't very strong as the backups may not be aggressive at all. It is a nice one-two punch with Turk and Bosh, but seriously, this may Bosh's last year or a trade might coming this off-season maybe.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">The backups on Toronto's roster average no more than about five points per game. It's not very strong at you'll be seeing Turk and Bosh playing a lot more minutes than you'll see as usual.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Sure, the stats will probably be much higher as Turkoglu may be the face of the team now that Bosh probably might not claim the title anymore. But here's the thing, Toronto probably may just end up like the Cavs last year if they make the playoffs.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">They make the playoffs next year but that's it. They may not even pass the first round, or to put it in another way, there is no playoff title for next year at all. With the stars Toronto has had in the past, none of them have been successful to lead their team to post-season.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Sure, a little help from their first round draft pick, DeMar DeRozan, can help but for this year?</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">Hell no.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">And look at the teams they'll have to face next year in their division: Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and New York Knicks. If Toronto was only one game better than New York this year, and the Knicks probably might be a better team this year as well, how can Toronto pass any of the other teams in the conference.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">They'll suffer some painful losses from the Boston Celtics, I can tell you that, because they'll destroy the Raptors. It'll just be Turkoglu and Bosh against all. And with the some solid players they had last year, there was no success.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">How can they have success this year with not as many solid players (count that two)?</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">It'll just be impossible to have success next year. And there won't be. The 2010-11 season may be worse as Bosh will be gone&nbsp;I bet. The Raptors looking at a long road...towards unsuccess.</p>
<p style="LINE-HEIGHT: 130%">And Hedo Turkoglu is just the start with the hell in making.</p>]]></description>

<title>NBA Rumor Mill: Kidd May Be a Knick, Rubio Refuses to Play in Minnesota &amp; Size Matters to Suns</title>
<description><![CDATA[There is every reason to believe that the 2009-2010 NBA season will be one of the most exciting of this decade, if not longer. While you try to predict who will challenge the incredibly stacked Los Angeles Lakers, we're going to hit you with the latest rumors circulating in what has been a fruitful free agency period for the big dogs of the NBA.<br /><br /><b>Kidd Wants a Piece of the Big Apple?</b><br /><br />Jason Kidd may not be the best point guard in the league anymore but that isn't stopping teams from bidding on him with fury. The New York Knicks want the current Dallas Maverick to take over the reins and Kidd is reportedly considering it. He would have to take a $12 million pay cut to do so. The Mavericks are offering a reported three-year contract worth up to $30 million, while the Knicks are only offering $18 million, says the <em></em><em><a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2009/07/03/2009-07-03_knicks_go_longer_on_offer_to_bring_jason_kidd_to_madison_square_garden.html" class="" target="_blank">New York Daily News</a></em>.<br /><br /><p class="tr-body">Several league executives don't believe Kidd wants to go to New York and are convinced that Kidd is using the
Knicks in order to get a big pay day from Dallas. But close friends think Kidd is intrigued by the chance to be the savior for the Knicks' franchise, a task he would try to take on by luring LeBron James to the Big Apple. Good luck with that. <br /></p><p class="tr-body">For what it's worth, there is at least one former teammate who really thinks this deal could happen for Kidd. Former Net Richard Jefferson said on The Dan Patrick Show that Kidd's "gonna be a Knick."</p><p class="tr-body">The only way Kidd shoudl take the New York deal is if LeBron signs a contract in blood saying he will come to New York. The Mavs finally got a decent big man in Marcin Gortat and look to at least be able to go to the second round of the Playoffs. The Knicks will be lucky to get to the Playoffs in general next season. <br /></p>
<p class="tr-source"><em></em><b>Rubio Staying in Spain?</b><br /></p><p class="tr-source">You can say many things about the Minnesota Timberwolves, and we all have, but one thing you can't accuse them of is being afraid to take risks. Their draft pick of Ricky Rubio now looks like a risk that has blown up in their face, whether they will admit it or not. <br /></p><p class="tr-body">According to the <em></em><em><a href="http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_12741576" class="" target="_blank">St. Paul Pioneer Press</a>, "</em>The Minnesota Timberwolves' top draft pick, Ricky
Rubio, 18, will remain in Spain to play for his DKV Joventut basketball
team for the remaining two years of his contract rather than try to
move to the NBA this season." The Barcelona newspaper El periodico also reports that Rubio,&nbsp; plans to withdraw his contract lawsuit against DKV Joventut.</p><p class="tr-body">At least they have Johnny Flynn, right? Rubio's decision only makes it obvious that Minnesota should have traded him to a team like the New York Knicks. <br /></p><p class="tr-body"></p><p class="tr-source"><em></em><b>Suns Look for Size after Trading Shaq</b></p><p class="tr-body">The Phoenix Suns helped free up some cap room by giving up Shaquille O'Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but now they have a huge hole in the center of their roster. The <em></em><em><a href="http://www.azcentral.comhttp//www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/07/01/20090701sunspursuits0702.html" class="" target="_blank">Arizona Republic</a></em> reports that the Suns General Manager Steve Kerr spent a few hours with Grant Hill at his Orlando house Wednesday in an attempt to lure the resurrected Sun back to Phoenix.</p><p class="tr-body">In the meantime team personnel put in calls to Antonio McDyess, Channing Frye, Sean May, Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox. If Kerr is interested I will be happy to play for Phoenix for a much lower price than any of those guys will, and here's the thing. None of the listed players are going to make a big impact in Phoenix. So why waste the money?</p><p class="tr-body">The Suns better make something happen if they plan to keep Steve Nash. They seem to be in rebuilding mode, a bad sign for a player who doesn't have many more years to make a championship run.<br /></p><p class="tr-body"></p><p class="tr-source"><em><a href="http://www.azcentral.comhttp//www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/07/01/20090701sunspursuits0702.html" class="" target="_blank"><br /></a></em></p><p class="tr-source"><br /><em></em></p>]]></description>

Former Net Richard Jefferson said on The Dan Patrick Show that Kidd's "gonna be a Knick."</p><p class="tr-body">The only way Kidd should take the New York deal is if LeBron signs a contract in blood saying he will come to New York.

            <title>2009 Offseason Whirlwind</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p><font face="Verdana">Man, this week had been filled with some HUGE trades. Let's talk about 'em.</p>

<p>For my thoughts on <b>Richard Jefferson</b> going to <b>San Antonio</b>, check out this <a href="http://mvn.com/thenolookpass/2009/06/spurs-reloaded.html"><b>entry</b></a>.</p>

<p><B>SHAQUILLE O'NEAL TO CLEVELAND and SASHA PAVLOVIC AND BEN WALLACE TO PHOENIX</b><br />
Okay, so this may possibly be the biggest trade of the offseason... and the people are making me dislike <b>Cleveland</b> all over again because they're pencilling in <b>L.A. and Cleveland</b> for the <b>2010 NBA Finals</b>. Sure, O'Neal makes them tougher inside but he's not the entire solution. First off, we wonder if they can co-exist. Second, let's see how they mesh. LeBron loves to drive in and there's going to be a <b>7'1", 350-pound guy</B> inside the paint at all times.</p>

<p>But what really needs fixing is that they need more than just <b>isolation plays</b>. And, in turn, better decision-making. This stuff falls on the coach. Part of what doomed Cleveland is that they took some terrible, terrible shots. LeBron's not the greatest three-point shooter in the world and, at times, he would just chuck one up without warning. His teammates would do the same thing. Basically, while they can score, they weren't an <b>efficient scoring team</b> against <b>Orlando</b>. And while Shaq adds power to the frontline, they still need a wing scorer/slasher that can create. Yeah, I didn't explain that very well when we did our inaugural <b>8th Seed podcast</b> (check <a href="http://the8thsedd.com"><b>THAT PODCAST</b></a> out, by the way... and I'm not afraid to admit that I actually sucked it real bad in that cast).</p>

<p>As for <b>Phoenix</b>? <b>Steve Kerr</b> said that they're "a team in transition". That's never good news to the fans. With <b>Amare Stoudemire</b> being thrown around in trade rumors (which I don't get because they can still win 50 games with this team), I just wonder if Phoenix has decided to start all over. What a waste. I would think <b>Steve Nash</b> would want out, too, for a better shot at a title.</p>

<p>For other viewpoints of this trade, check out this <a href="http://mvn.com/thenolookpass/2009/06/talking-to-chicks-who-love-hoops-the-big-trade-piece.html"><b>Chicks Who Love Hoops</b></a> blog entry.</p>

<p><b>VINCE CARTER TO ORLANDO and COURTNEY LEE, TONY BATTIE, AND RAFER ALSTON TO NEW JERSEY</b><br />
I don't think this trade is as bad as some people make it out to be because I think <b>Orlando</b> is a strong enough team. However, Carter does need to adjust to being the #2 or #3 guy. He certainly fills their need on the wing position but will his head be in it? Carter's also been known to disappear a bit in the postseason. But who knows? While he was pretty good last season, maybe this motivates him even more? A change of scenery? What kind of Vince Carter are we getting here?</p>

<p><img src="http://mvn.com/thenolookpass/vince001.jpg"></p>

<p>As for the Nets' new pieces? Courtney Lee is pretty damn good and it sucks that he had to go. But he and <b>Devin Harris</b> will form a real good (HOT) backcourt. They might peddle Rafer Alston around because I'm sure he doesn't want to be an expensive back-up and Tony Battie is Tony Battie. New Jersey did accomplish freeing up MORE cap space after the shedding of Vinsanity's contract.</p>

<p>I think it works out better for Orlando if they can get <b>Hedo Turkoglu</b> back. Turkoglu was the jack-of-all-trades for Orlando (rebounding, passing, ball-handling, clutch shooting). If he leaves, I think Orlando will really miss him.</p>

<p><b>JAMAL CRAWFORD TO ATLANTA and SPEEDY CLAXTON AND ACIE LAW IV TO GOLDEN STATE</b><br />
Well, Crawford was just on his way out of G. State. <b>Don Nelson</b> and Crawford clash a lot. So Jamal had to go. But to get those bit pieces from Atlanta? I thought they could've done better. Where is Golden State going?</p>

<p>Now this represents a little conundrum for Atlanta. They sure as hell got more talented but where will Crawford fit in the equation? Is he willing to come off the bench as a potent sixth man (a la <b>Jason Terry</b> and <b>Manu Ginobili</b>)? </p>

<p><b>MIKE MILLER AND RANDY FOYE TO WASHINGTON and ETAN THOMAS, DARIUS SONGAILA, OLEXSIY PECHEROV, AND THE 5TH PICK (RICKY RUBIO) TO MINNESOTA</b><br />
Washington's a talented team that was just decimated with injuries last year. I believe they're a playoff team when healthy (ESPECIALLY <b>Gilbert Arenas</b>). Anyway, they fill their need in outside shooting with Mike Miller. I think Randy Foye's numbers were a bit inflated in Minnesota but he'll be a serviceable back-up guard (maybe even start if Arenas STILL isn't healthy). They are getting a bit crowded in the backcourt, though...</p>

<p>Minnesota just really cleaned house and was lucky to have <b>Ricky Rubio</b> drop to their laps for the 5th pick. But I'm trying to figure out their stance after they drafted <b>Jonny Flynn</b> right after Rubio. Their new players will help in the frontcourt but it's not like they'll set anything on fire. </p>

<p>By the way, the <b>New York Knicks'</b> draft pick, <b>Jordan Hill</b>? She sounds hot.</p>

Curry, who is an offensive machine, has been rumored to be on the move later in the offseason in a package deal which involves Suns All-Star forward Amar'e Stoudemire heading to Golden State. However, longtime basketball coach Don Nelson feels that Curry will make an instant impact on the league with the Warriors, and denies the rumors by saying, and I quote, <b>"He can unpack his bags and relax. He can buy a house. We drafted him because we think he's a terrific
player that fits right into our program. He ain't going anyplace."</b><br /><br />The Warriors have been known to be an offensive based team for the past couple of years now under Nellie, and it seems there is no better match for Curry other than in Oakland itself. With a backcourt of Monta Ellis, who has proven himself to be a threat on the offensive end, and Curry, who lit up almost every opponent he faced in college, together, the Warriors will be a feared offensive team once again this year.<br /><br /><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2009/news/story?id=4290401">Knicks interested in Rubio</a>.<br /><br />Insight: Rumors of the New York Knicks going after 18 year old guard Ricky Rubio have once again come about after Thursday night's NBA Draft. Team president Donnie Walsh has expressed serious interest in the European phenomenon, more so after he found that the T-Wolevs were caught in somewhat of a pickle Thursday night when they drafted two PGs (Rubio and Jonny Flynn). Rubio's father stated that he would prefer Rubio to head back to Spain for a season or two. <br /><br />Walsh jumped on the opportunity to take the Rubio situation off Minnesota's hands, and is planning to contact them soon. It hasn't been clear on whether or not the Knicks would give up their draft pick, Jordan Hill, or Knick stars David Lee and Nate Robinson. It's been whispered that the Knicks are hoping to drop some salary before the 2010 offseason by trading Robinson or Lee, so they can sign superstar players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and, if still on the market, Chris Bosh.<br />]]></description>

<title>NBA Crystal Ball: Ricky Rubio Will Not Be Hungry Like the Wolf Next Season</title>
<description><![CDATA[The 2009 NBA Draft was anything but predictable. However; instead of the Memphiz Grizzlies being the talk of the night it was the Minnesota Timberwolves who had people scratching their heads when they chose Ricky Rubio, the Spanish sensation, and Johnny Flynn, the explosive point guard out of Syracuse. When they chose Ty Lawson I couldn't help but think Matt Millen had commandeered the draft room in Minnesota and was having flashbacks to his drafting wide receivers days. <br /><br />The real joke seems to be on Ricky Rubio, only he isn't laughing. If you need proof you only need to notice that he didn't show up to the introductory news conference for the Timberwolves' draft picks. Timberwolves GM David Kahn is apologizing for him and saying that he believes a two point guart system can work. Too bad Ricky doesn't agree. We could be looking at the next Steve Francis situation, which is why I don't think there is a chance in Hell that Rubio plays in Minnesoate next season. <br /><br />Rumor has it that Rubio is upset that he didn't get drafted higher. Boo hoo, Ricky. Go ask Chase Budinger, who a year or two ago was considered a possible lottery pick but went late in the second round this year, how he feels. Ego aside, Ricky is considering to stay in Spain and play for DKV Joventut. Have fun with that. Kahn already said that he is willing to wait a year or two if it means Rubio will come play. In other words, save the bluff because you aren't going anywhere unless we say so. <br /><br />The best situation would be for Minnesota to trade him to New York. The Knicks have a bigger crush on him than most guys do on Megan Fox. Transformers 2 sucks by the way. Save your money or send it to me and I will gladly do my best imitation of Shia LaNoNoNo or a racist Autobot. Seriously. But back to the Knicks, Mike D'Antoni envisions Rubio to be his point guard for the future. The only problem is the Knicks don't have much to offer. Maybe they could package Jordan Hill and a draft pick for next season to move Rubio their way. I doubt it. If they do then it is imperative they re-sign David Lee to keep a frontcourt presence. <br /><br />One way or the other Rubio is bound and determined to get out of Minnesota. He made it clear that he didn't want to play there before the Draft and the Timberwolves took him anyway. Is he worth the headache? Maybe. We all became enamored with his YouTube clips and Minnesota loves him. The problem is that feeling isn't mutual. Let the mind games begin. <br /> ]]></description>

<title>Cleveland&apos;s Case Of Xenophobia, Kid Congo Edition</title>
<description><![CDATA[<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=sports,%20sports,%20fear,unknown&amp;iid=252649" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/0249/1d087d8d-f09e-41da-9a60-aaf9cb720673.jpg?adImageId=1687024&amp;imageId=252649" alt="Businesspeople Wearing Blindfolds" width="500" border="0" height="333" /></a><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js"></script><br /><i><b>Cleveland Cavalier fans all over the country right now.</b></i><br /><div align="left"><br />Xenophobia. (zěn'ə-fōb', zē'nə-) A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.<!--//<br / / / / / / / / / / / / / / />//--><!--EOF_DEF--><br /><br />Cleveland fans, right now whether you recognize it or not, you're suffering Xenophobia. Hate to break it ya, but you are. Not from the fear of foreign people but from the fear of the unknown.<br /><br />The backlash and anger unleashed from picking Christian Eyenga, a.k.a. Kid Congo, with the 30th pick has been unreal. It's been pretty unanimous in the feeling that Kid Congo was a bad pick. <br /><br />But here's my question for the whole ordeal: how in the world can we, as fans, say that this was a bad pick, when we don't have the slightest clue about this kid? That's my main beef.<br /><br />We can say all we want that this was a terrible pick, Ferry's terrible, blah, blah, blah but how can we say that without seeing this kid in action? Sure there's <a href="http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Christian-Eyenga-5493/">prospect</a> <a href="http://draftday.nbadraft.net/players/christian-eyenga">profiles</a> on this kid, as well as <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTew2KzGH94">YouTube! highlights</a> of him too, but neither of them are nearly enough for any fan to form a well-developed opinion on the kid. <br /><br />At least with prospects like Sam Young, Chase Budinger, DaJuan Summers, etc., there is national exposure of them. We're able to see prospects like them on T.V., on highlight videos, during March Madness, etc. On top of that they're well-known prospects that have tons of information collected about them and there's pretty much a consensus among scouting services about their strengths, weaknesses and what type of player they project to be. With all the information available to us with those type of players, we're able to form a decently informed opinion of the kid and it's at the point where we can talk about and even judge them when they're pick if we want to (even though that's not smart, you get what I mean).<br /><br />With Eyenga, there is none of that. Which is why all the people bashing this pick are xenophobes (had to tie it in). They're afraid of the unknown, in this case Kid Congo, and because they're not too sure on him the automatic human reaction is to bash it, or be angry about the pick. The same thing happened last year with JJ Hickson. Not a lot of people knew a whole bunch about him and all of a sudden bashed him because they were ignorant when it came to the pick. The national media, message boards, and fans all over wanted guys like Kosta Kofous, Darell Arthur, Chris Douglas-Roberts, etc., because they were guys that people had a lot of information on and were able to make a decently informed opinion on.<br /><br />People are just like animals. When animals come into contact with something that they're unfamiliar with or not comfortable with, they automatically become suspicious, edgy and sort of protective. Similar to humans, when we come into contact with something unfamiliar, we become sort of protective, uncomfortable and scared. This is the same with Kid Congo: because we're unfamiliar with him, we become kind of uncomfortable and scared (which leads to anger). <br /><br />Before I go on any further, let me just say this: in no way am I trying to defend the pick by Danny Ferry. Heck <a href="http://mvn.com/cavalierattitude/2009/06/danny-ferry-you-screwed-this-draft-up.html">my first initial reaction was quite similar to Amar's</a>. But after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that we can't really come to a judgment on this pick because we have no knowledge of the kid. So if we are ignorant on a certain subject, how can we say it's a bust or not? We can't, which is why I don't get the outrage by the Cavs fans across the nation.<br /><br />I know part of the outrage is about Kid Congo himself but it seems like most of the rage is directed towards not picking proven college players like Sam Young, DeJuan Blair, Chase Budinger or DaJuan Summers or at least better known "projects" like Derrick Brown. I can definitely see that though because, again, these are players that fans are more comfortable and know more about them.<br /><br />But let me say this: if anybody expects the 30th pick in the draft to be able to contribute his rookie year for a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers (66 win team last year, best record in the NBA, Central Division champions, made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, etc.) then they're crazy. Not to mention, the 30th pick in what was considered to be one of the weakest drafts in NBA history.<br /><br />Sure guys like Sam Young, DeJuan Blair, Chase Budinger are billed as "NBA ready" players who can contribute right away, but we're talking about the Cavs here. Not the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Minnesota Timberwolves; the Cleveland Cavaliers.<br /><br />With free agency still left along with trades still being allowed, I'd be willing to bet we add a minimum of two rotational players to the roster, if not more. So taking that into consideration, where does a rookie (30th pick in the draft) seem to fit in and contribute right away? Including our current roster and the likely addition of at least a couple of rotational players via trade and/or free agency, our rotation will probably look at least 9 deep. And that's not including guys like JJ Hickson, Darnell Jackson and maybe even Tarence Kinsey, who might get playing time this year. Do you guys realize Joe Smith, Wally Szczerbiak, Sasha Pavlovic and Daniel Gibson, really didn't see the floor that much versus the Magic? Joe Smith only played in 2 games of where he had 10 or more minutes. Sasha basically played two games of 20-minute ball and that&nbsp; was it for the series. Wally Szczerbiak had two DNP's and basically was forced to play the last 3 games because of the inefficiency of the bench. Daniel Gibson got 6 minutes the first 3 games before 64 minutes the next 3.<br /><br />Now it can be said Mike Brown screwed the pooch on who to play and who not to play but the point is, if he was forced to play veterans and those veterans didn't play much to begin with, how do you expect him to play a rookie who was picked 30th overall in the Eastern Conference Finals? Because really, let's get serious here: it doesn't matter what happens in the regular season anymore, it's all about the playoffs. And how in the world would you expect a rookie to contribute anything more than a couple minutes in the Eastern Conference Finals, let alone the Finals?<br /><br />I understand an argument can be made using Daniel Gibson and Courtney Lee as examples rookies playing big roles for their playoff teams and being picked late in the draft. But those types of cases happen very, very, very rarely. <br /><br />The bottom line is that Ferry really didn't see anyone who could contribute right away at #30, as he should have, and saw it worth the risk to take a flier on a guy who they see as having high potential then rather taking a guy who wouldn't likely contribute this year anyway.<br /><br />Aside from those points, the pick also goes deeper than that.<br /><br />Let's remember that all 1st round picks have guaranteed money being paid to them, basically as soon as they're picked. So basically, once they're picked they're locked into the rookie scale right away. The rookie scale for the 30th pick is $989k. So for a player that wasn't likely to contribute at all during his rookie season, the Cavs would have been paying around $1 million for him to sit the bench. Now I know there's a possibility that the rookie could have contributed but instead of that $1 million being paid for him to sit the bench, that $1 million can be allocated to different resources. It can helps us sign a free agent, he could helps us via trade, etc.<br /><br />Now I can understand why fans would say "well if Dan Gilbert is willing
to spend, then why is he worried about $1 million". But it's the fact
that he doesn't want to spend the money, it's just he wants to do it
wisely.<font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span class="Estilo5 Estilo52 Estilo52 Estilo52"></span></font><br /><br />And before you go criticizing Dan Gilbert for being "cheap", look at what the Los Angeles Lakers did. They had the 29th and 42nd picks in the NBA draft. Instead of picking those players, they instead sold those picks to teams for money. Because like the Cavs, they figured that those players wouldn't likely be able to contribute right away and they were better served getting cash for those picks and helping them to sign free agents, or in their case re-sign Trevor Ariza and/or Lamar Odom. Now they are the NBA Champions but does that mean they're being cheap too? Or are they just being smart with their money? At least the Cavs will get a player out of their pick, instead of just giving it away.<br /><br />Now getting back to the players actually available at the pick, let's take an deeper look at them.<br /><br />Sam Young. Thought of as one of the safest picks in the draft and a guy who could contribute right away. Right now the Cavs need a defender first and foremost on the wing and he's billed to be a good defender. So how could this not be the perfect fit? Well right now I don't see how he has a position in the NBA. It's my belief that he's too small to guard most SFs and too slow to guard most SGs. So where does he play then? That's my problem. But if Ferry really would have wanted him, he would have gotten him. Let's not forget that Ferry and Pittsburgh coach, Jamie Dixon, are pretty tight and has pretty much all the information possible on him, and DeJuan Blair. So if he passed on him, it's probably for a good reason.<br /><br />DeJuan Blair. A steal at #30, right? Where does he fit? He can't play with Varejao because that would be a disaster offensively. Not to mention, why draft another undersized forward/center after drafting two last year, in Darnell Jackson and JJ Hickson? Or how about our newest acquisition, Shaquille O'Neal. How would he fit in with him? Or better yet, what about those knees? <a href="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/ian_thomsen/06/26/weekly.countdown/index.html">As one story in SI.com said</a>: "Most team doctors red-flagged him, which prevented the GMs from taking Blair in the first round."<br /><br />Derrick Brown. I certainly was a big proponent and was kind of upset that we didn't take him. But at the same time, he wasn't going to contribute now, as well as Eyenga, so why not take a flier on a guy with a very high ceiling who won't cost anything, as opposed to a guy who will cost you something and doesn't have as high of a ceiling?<br /><br />DaJuan Summers. He was another guy I liked but there were some questions on him. Why couldn't he put up better rebounding numbers? Why didn't he play any defense? Why couldn't he do anything else beside spot-up shoot? Why didn't he get "it"? Summers was a guy filled with potential but loaded with downside too.<br /><br />Chase Budinger. Probably not on the top of the list as far as guys the Cavs passed on but still up there. The problem with Budinger will never talent level, how athletic he is or how good of a player he is offensively. It's mentally and defensively where the questions are. So considering that, why would the Cavs take him if their biggest weakness on the wing is defense?<br /><br />Let's keep things in perspective here: this is the draft. Not free agency. Not trades. This is the draft. A championship caliber team like the Cavs doesn't make its major improvements through the draft. They do them through trades and in free agency. So why all of a sudden, is Ferry the worst general manager in the league? Just a few days beforehand he was the best after trading for Shaq.<br /><br />The point is that this is last in line as far as places we'd look to improve in. No guy was going to contribute right away so why not take a flier on a guy that could possibly be better than anybody else on the board at the time. Is it guaranteed? No. Would Sam Young, Derrick Brown, DeJuan Blair be safer picks? Yeah probably. But none of them have the type of potential that Eyenga has.<br /><br />And yes GMs far too often get caught up with the potential word but the Cavs are in a position where they can take a low-risk move like this and hope that it pans out.<br /><br />The 30th pick in the draft isn't going to make or break our chances at a title and it isn't going to make LeBron going to go to New York. What will though is what we do via trade and through free agency, which we should be more worried about. Those are places where we can't afford to take high risks or make mistakes. Those are places we should be worried about, not the draft.<br /><br />The whole point of this article is basically for some new perspective on the situation. Will this kid turn out to be a good pro? Who knows. But that's the whole point: who knows. We can't judge or criticize a situation by knowing very little on the subject at hand.<br /><br />So kick back, relax, and let's see where Eyenga and this draft class is 3 years down the road from now, because that's when it'll be fair to assess this draft. Not now, only 2 days after the draft. And not 1 month into the season either. But 3 years.<br /><br />I know it's frustrating to see us pass on some guys that would have been safer, more comfortable picks for the fans but let's wait and see what happens the rest of the off-season before we go freaking out.<br /><br />But just remember one thing about Eyenga: he is Kid Congo.<br /><br />And oh yeah...don't be a Xenophobe.<br /><script language="javascript">AC_FL_RunContent = 0;</script><script src="http://cache.lexico.com/js/AC_RunActiveContent.js" language="javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">var interfaceflash = new LEXICOFlashObject ( "http://cache.lexico.com/d/g/speaker.swf", "speaker", "17", "15", "<a href="\"http://dictionary.reference.com/audio.html/ahd4WAV/X0004700/xenophobia\"" target="\"_blank\""><img src="\"http://cache.lexico.com/g/d/speaker.gif\"" border="\"0\"" / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /></a>", "6");interfaceflash.addParam("loop", "false");interfaceflash.addParam("quality", "high");interfaceflash.addParam("menu", "false");interfaceflash.addParam("salign", "t");interfaceflash.addParam("FlashVars", "soundUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fcache.lexico.com%2Fdictionary%2Faudio%2Fahd4%2FX%2FX0004700.mp3&clkLogProxyUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fdictionary.reference.com%2Fwhatzup.html&t=a&d=d&s=di&c=a&ti=1&ai=51359&l=dir&o=0&sv=00000000&ip=446ebdd1&u=audio"); interfaceflash.addParam('wmode','transparent');interfaceflash.write();</script><noscript><a

<title>The Top Five NBA Players To Never Win a Championship</title>

To answer that question, I've compiled a list of the top five players to never win a championship. Read on after the jump...<br /><br />]]></description>
