HE15MAN: Tebow wins College Football’s Greatest Honor
In this YouTube video of the announcement, Gators QB Tim Tebow is announced as the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner.
In the end, it was not as close as it seemed, and even less close when you factor in those that didn’t vote for Tebow only because he wasn’t a junior or a senior. Tim Tebow won the 2007 Heisman Trophy. It’s just another case of being able to use the word “first” in the same sentence as “Tim Tebow”; Tim Tebow is the FIRST sophomore ever to win the award presented to college football’s most outstanding player. Tebow even bucked recent history, as 6 of the previous 7 winners of the Maxwell Award (another trophy presented to college football’s greatest player) did not go on to win the Heisman.
Tebow cleared runner-up Darren McFadden of Arkansas by more than 100 points and 40 first place votes. Hawaii QB Colt Brennan, whose coach caused some controversy by saying that his QB runs an NFL system while Tebow only succeeds due to his “system”, finished in a distant third place. Missouri QB Chase Daniels finished 4th. Also garnering a few votes was Central Florida RB Kevin Smith.
Tebow becomes the third Gator to win the Heisman, and all have QBs. Tebow’s jersey will be painted up on the walls of the Swamp along with Steve Spurrier and Danny Weurffel. And you know that Tebow would trade it instantly for a national title.
He can wait 1 more year for that though. Don’t look now, folks, but with Tebow winning the Heisman…if the Gators do well in the Capital One Bowl, a big win over Michigan, do not be surprised if they start next season Top 5. They may even be #1. They are deep and talented, and the one question about the team this year, a young defense, no longer applies. Tebow’s stats may not be as good because Florida is adding a legitimate RB in USC transfer Emanuel Moody. A wiser Florida defense, a Heisman QB, explosive receivers, and a running game? Not to mention a non-conference schedule that actually includes a BCS team (the Gators will finally have a chance to take the Seminole War Canoe back from Miami, not to mention to win the Governor’s Cup) as well as that same Hawaii squad, that may be ranked. The Gators have all the tools and circumstances for Timmy to add a championship ring to that trophy, and maybe a matching trophy next year as well.
Congrats, Timmy! Your season, as well as your speech where you displayed perfect focus in life, made all of us very proud that you are a Gator. You thanked Coach Meyer for letting you be a Gator. No no, son (I say even though I’m only 24), YOU picked US, and we’re as thankful to the LORD as you were for the Heisman.

First off…nice piece….but I am “cloudy” on a couple things.
In previous posts you bash Ohio State and the Big Ten…and say the Buckeyes schedule is too weak……then in this post you say that if Florida beats Michigan it will be a “big win”….
How is it a “big win” if they are part of a Buckeye schedule that is so “weak”….
is it both ways? or what ever way suits Florida best?
And yeah…..I’m firing buckeyes your way, Mr. Swamp Man.

Thanks for the comment.
When I said big win, I wasn’t saying that just winning would be big. There is a certain degree of importance to any bowl win, especially a New Year’s Day bowl, but the Gators are expected to win rather handily.
When I say big win, I mean if the Gators drop 50 on the Wolverines, win the game something like 56-14. An impressive win, THAT is what could propel the Gators to a #1 ranking to start next year.
