Tigers Collect Third Championship
After a rocky start against the Ohio State Buckeyes, the LSU Tigers came out strong to win the 2007 BCS National Championship 38-24.
The Buckeyes gave the Tigers a scare when they went up 10-0 in the first quarter, but LSU was not about go down that easy. After a field goal by Colt David, quarterback Matt Flynn hooked up with tight-end Richard Dickson to tie the game at ten apiece in the second.
The Tigers went on to score two more touchdowns in the second to put them up 24-10 at the half, including a touchdown by receiver Brandon LaFell and a one-yard run by fullback Jacob Hester. Then the points kept coming. Flynn threw to receiver Early Doucet to put the Tigers up 31-10 and Dickson went on to collect his second touchdown of the game to give the Tigers their 38 points.
Flynn went out on a good note during his last game as LSU’s starting quarterback. He ended the night 19-of-27 for 174 yards and four touchdowns.
Finally the Tigers had less penalties than their opponent with only 4-for-36 yards compared to Ohio’s 7-for-83 yards.
Two huge plays of the game came when Ricky Jean-Francois blocked an Ohio field goal attempt and Chevis Jackson’s interception was followed by a touchdown.
Chants of “S-E-C” filled the Superdome as Ohio State lost to their ninth SEC opponent. The Buckeyes have still yet to capture a win against a Southeastern team. Ohio looked to erase memories of their brutal loss to Florida last year, but once again, the Big Ten just could not keep up with the South.
The lucky number for LSU seems to be two. LSU is the first team to win two BCS Championships and the first to win two championships in the last five years. They were also the first two-loss team to make it the BCS title game and now two crystal trophies belong to the Tigers. (Demetrius Byrd, number 2, also had a pretty significant impact on the Tigers.)
Defensive Coordinator Bo Pelini coached his final game for LSU on Monday night before he headed back to his head-coaching job in Nebraska. After all the work and effort Pelini put into this program, he could not have asked for a better finale. The Tigers will definitely miss him in the future.
Coach Miles has won his first national championship and has extended his contract at LSU for a few more years. Fear the hat, because now it has a national champions logo on it.

Let me add my congratulations, even though I do have the BCS I believe that in this system the team that should have won did.

The BCS championship is for who played the best football throughout the whole season, not just the end of the season. Georgia would have done the SEC well also, but LSU had the better overall season.
Take your Sugar Bowl win and look to Next Year. All Georgia has to do is beat Florida and they will be in the BCS title game. I think Georgia should be preseason #1.
