Buckeyes Select Grant As Fourth Captain

Apparantly, Jim Tressel and his coaching staff read THE Horseshoe.

Right on cue - as if we planned it that way - Buckeye senior linebacker Larry Grant was named the fourth team captain for tonight’s game against Purdue. This will be the second time this season that Grant has been named captain.

Grant, a junior college transfer last season has become a big play specialist on defense and on special teams this season. THE Horseshoe spotlighted Grant earlier this week and dubbed him “the unheralded beast of Columbus”.

Before the season, the Buckeyes players elected three captains, senior offensive tackle Kirk Barton, senior fullback Dionte Johnson, and junior linebacker James Laurinaitis. The Buckeye’s fourth captain has alternated every game this season.

Grant got the nod for the season opener against Youngstown State, Marcus Freeman held the honor for the Akron game, Vernon Gholston was selected for Washington, Malcolm Jenkins for Northwestern, and Anderson Russell for Minnesota last week.

So far, all of the fourth captains have been defensive players which is very telling of how successful the Buckeyes defense (ranked 2nd in the nation) has been this season.
