Seton Hall makes it two straight

The Seton Hall Pirates picked up their 17th victory of the season and pulled their Big East Conference record back to within a game of .500 at 7-8 with a 79-75 win at South Florida.  The win keeps 20 overall wins and 10 conference wins within reach and thus holds their slim NCAA Tournament chances intact.

All of the Pirates scoring came from 5 players, 4 of whom reached double figures.  The exception was Jeremy Hazell who finished the game with nine points to go along with 4 assists and a team high 4 steals.

John Garcia was the team’s top performer on the night and played perhaps his best game as a Pirate.  He finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double to go along with 5 blocked shots.  His stellar performance gave The Hall that strong inside presence they’ve been lacking all year and was essential to the win.  Seton Hall will need more of these performances from Garcia if they are going to sneak into the big dance.

Brian Laing led the team in scoring with 24 points.  He also recorded 4 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals.  Jamar Nutter scored 20 points on 3-4 shooting from three point land and 5-6 on free throws.  Eugene Harvey used a solid all around effort to help the Pirates with 8 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 4-4 shooting from the free throw line to contribute to his 10 points.

The Seton Hall Pirates will invade Madison Square Garden on Saturday when they visit the St. John’s Red Storm in search of win number 18.  A victory will clinch The Hall’s spot in the Big East Tournament.
