Also, something I found on the net today…http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/6776070
A good preview, very indepth. A few interesting things in the time I got to read through it, first on Travis Shelton…”It’s not necessarily a bad thing when one of the most explosive weapons is listed third on the depth chart. Junior Travis Shelton averaged a team-leading 17.2 yards per catch on 20 grabs with three touchdowns. He’ll quickly find his way back into the starting mix after leading the nation averaging 196.7 yards per game”—–Cant agree with this more, I cant see how Shelton CANT get on the field on offense. I mean the guy is a playmaker and can stretch the field. I know the staff thinks highly of Delano Green, but he is a small guy who was a QB in high school. I think its more about Green holding onto the job then Shelton taking it back. Shelton hasnt done anything while hes been on the field that makes you wanna have someone else in front of him. Green’s gotta be a stud to be the man.
One more from the preview, when asked “the season would be a success if…” —–”Temple wins three games. Considering the program has won four games in four years, three this season would be a monumental step forward for the young team. It’ll take a win over Buffalo, a win at Army, and an upset where everything goes the right way against someone who comes into the game sleepwalking. At the very least, just being more competitive on both sides of the ball would be a nice start.” —–Again, cant agree with this more. I think 3 wins would be huge for the program and for recruiting these next few years, if Golden can show his young guys are making strides already. I also think its a better possibility than this preview is saying if this team can make improvements in a few areas(run defense, the running game and overall playmaking on the defensive side of the ball to stop big plays and halting long drives from continuing).
Seifert signs with Bengals
Owlsports.com is reporting that former Temple standout Elliot Seifert has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Round 1 of the QB battle
With spring practices concluding almost two weeks ago, we know a little more about the position battles taking place on the offensive side of the ball. The only positions that are cemented on the offensive side are center which is claimed by 2006 Owl Award (team MVP) winner, Alex Derenthal and the right tackle spot. The right side is occupied by redshirt junior Andre Douglas. The other nine starting spots are all up for grabs beginning first and foremost with Quarterback.
The Quarterback battle is a two horse race between redshirt junior Adam DiMichele and sophomore Vaughn Charlton. DiMichele started nine games for the Owls last year throwing for 1,518 yards and 10 touchdowns while being intercepted 12 times. DiMichele did have an impressive showing versus MAC opponents last year, completing 65% of his passes, totaling just over 1,000 yards and posting a 9 to 6 TD to interception ratio.
Vaughn Charlton will be entering his second season at quarterback for the Owls. In 2006, Charlton saw action in eight games and started in three of those. He posted a 55% completion percentage, 417 yards, 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. In his three starts, Charlton went 30-56 with 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Charlton appears to have momentum on his side with two solid performances to finish out 2006 Vs Clemson and Navy respectively and an excellent showing in the annual Cherry and White game that concluded the spring session.
The annual affair was played on Saturday April 21st at the Ambler Sports Complex. DiMichele was the man under center for the Cherry squad which was coached by defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio. While Charlton played for the White, coached by offensive coordinator George DeLeone. With each team unable to move the ball on the ground, the quarterbacks had to move their respective teams down the field. The White team dominated time of possession by about ten minutes. The White squad took a ten point lead with 54 seconds remaining in the first half when Charlton hooked up with sophomore tight end Steve Maneri.
Cherry scored on its first play from scrimmage in the second half on a trick play that saw junior receiver Bruce Francis connect on a 70 yard pass to fellow receiver Dy’Onne Crudup. With the score 10-7, Charlton led the White on a sustained drive but fell short when running back Jason Harper fumbled the ball at the 2 and resulted in a touchback, giving Cherry the ball. Only six plays later, DiMichele threw an interception to White defensive back Dominique Harris who returned the ball all the way to the Cherry 11 yard line. The Cherry defense held leading to a field goal attempt for the White. The kick was blocked and resulted in a touchback for the Cherry squad. DiMichele responded nicely by driving his team 80 yards in 12 plays and connecting with junior tight end Kevin Armstrong for a six yard touchdown pass, giving Cherry their first lead 14-10. The touchdown was followed by another White fumble and yet another blocked field goal, this time by the White giving them the ball back with 1:25 remaining and solid field position at the Cherry 43. As time was ticking away Charlton led the White into scoring position. Jason Harper avenged his earlier fumble when he scored on a 7 yard run with just under 30 second left to play. The White took and held onto the 17-14 lead for the win. DiMichele finished with a line that reads; 7-12, 91 yards, 1 INT and was sacked 3 times. Charlton put up some impressive numbers in the win going 19-30 with 212 yards and a TD. The quarterback battle is far from over, but I think it’s fair to say the sophomore Vaughn Carlton has the early lead heading into the summer.
