Hey folks. Just wanted to get you guys excited about the Super Bowl.I know that the Niners aren't going, but one of the few things that I love about the Super Bowl are the ads. 49ers remain stiff on defense in cold Buffalo

The 49ers defense remained strong towards the end of the game on defense, not allowing a touchdown throughout the game. But if you saw the game, the whole momentum was on the foot of Bills K Rian Lindell. After missing a simple 20-yard kick early in the game, he also missed a 40-yard field goal later in the game. All the momentum for the Bills disappeared and went to the Niners. But this game was all on the Niners defense. Towards the end of the game, the Niners stopped the Bills on 4th and 2 and on the Bills' last drive, forced the Bills to go backwards. It was a great day defensively for the Niners. The bend don't break defense gave up a lot of yards (361 yards) but the way they were able to add pressure ot the quarterback and stuff the run towards the red zone was just...

Week 13: 49ers vs. Bills Preview & Discussion Thread

The 49ers made a little change today before Sunday's game against the Bills. With the team thin on healthy wide receivers (Allen Rossum is out with an ankle injury, Jason Hill and Arnaz Battle are both questionable to play), they signed WR Chris Hannon from the practice squad. WR Isaac Bruce, Bryant Johnson and Dominque Zeigler are the only available wide receivers for Sunday's game. ===The 49ers come into Orchard Park with an inability to finish off drives, games. So how about going into a nice, chilly, possibly snow-packed stadium on Sunday? It's going to be fun just to see the weather. But this game means a lot to both teams. Obviously for the Bills, they are still in the playoff chase. The Niners are using these last games to help determine if Mike Martz or Shaun Hill are potential answers for the future. CB Nate Clements and LB Takeo...

49ers news and notes in Buffalo

As the 49ers travel to upstate New York, they should remember to stay warm. The game is predicted to be in the high 20s. The wind chill factor definitely won't make it easier. Of course, for a West Coast team that will be playing at 10PM PST, it may be a hard game for them to take in. However, the locker room has sounded positive on the matter. "As a kid it was always fun to play in the snow," said cornerback Nate Clements, the former Buffalo Bill. "It never died down to me. To me it was fun."Speaking of Clements, this will be his first return to Buffalo since signing with the Niners two off-seasons ago. Clements signed a nice $80 million deal with the Niners after spending six seasons with the Bills. How will the fans react to him? It probably won't be a big roar of boos....

Happy Thanksgiving Niners fans!

Happy Thanksgiving y'all!Just want to thank you guys for reading this site for updates on the team. I want to thank all the bloggers that I've interacted over the past two seasons. I want to thank the 49ers for helping my blog with exposure. I want to thank Niners Nation for helping me out with the exposure as well. I'm just thankful for family, friends, football and just the chance to do this. Enjoy dinner with your families, friends and loved ones guys! Eat well and shop safely tomorrow. And if you want to talk football here, sure, why not?I'll just go out on the limb and predict upsets all the way. Why? Because I feel like it.Well, I want the Lions to win. And well, I want the Cowboys to lose. I hope McNabb knows that the Eagles play on Thursday. It's in the rule book....

49ers pre-Thanksgiving food for thought

49ers rookie LB Larry Grant has been picked up by the Rams. Grant was on the practice squad, but I guess the Rams found a use for him and swooped him from us.===I was looking through some information on Sunday's game when I came through this interesting statistic. On LB Manny Lawson's fumble recovery, the 49ers had to challenged the play and they won. The play, which was a backwards pass/lateral to RB Tashard Choice was picked off by Lawson. It was ruled an incomplete pass. The 49ers would challenge the play. The replay showed that the pass was backwards, so Lawson was credited with a fumble recovery. That was the first successful challenge in seven tries for the Niners this season. That's a little over a 14% success rate. That's actually really bad. But the majority of these challenges, if I recall, are result of the 49ers being desperate. The Niners have...

Six NFL Hall of Fame Semi-finalists have Raider ties

The Oakland Raiders have a long history of having the greatest players, which is evidenced by the fact that over one-fifth of the current batch of Hall of Fame semi-finalists have at least some ties to the Silver and Black. That means that there is a very good chance that there will be a new Raider presence in Canton. There are the usual suspects in Lester Hayes, Ray Guy, and Ken Stabler. Then there are others who played the bulk of their career elsewhere, but donned the Silver and Black for a time. There is also someone who was instrumental in the early survival of the Raiders. Here is a brief look at those candidates and the pros and cons of thier inductions. ...

Four former Niners make cut of 25 for Hall of Fame list

It's been one of those days where the weather just isn't great and you don't want to do anything. Well, today is one of those days and I just have the urge to be super lazy. However, I do have some cool news to share. For all of you Hall of Fame fans, this is something for you. Four former 49ers have made the cut list of 25 to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame. The four are RB Roger Craig, DE Richard Dent, LB Charles Haley and CB Rod Woodson. Craig is probably the most recognizable former Niner on this list. I don't think I need to go into much detail on Craig's importance in the `80s for the Niners. But here's a little video for you who can't remember much about him. Pretty exciting stuff for Craig. Charles Haley is also a worthy Hall of Fame choice....

Fantasy Football: Tuesday Waiver Wire

As Week 13 comes upon us, it is the last week of the regular season in many fantasy football leagues.  A well placed free agent addition could help get a needed victory this week, as well as have an impact in the playoffs. In this my final edition of the Tuesday Waiver Wire for the 2008 season, I'l once again give you my recommendations of who you should consider adding to your rosters this week. Quarterbacks David Garrard, Jacksonville Jaguars- Garrard threw for 317 yards last week against Minnesota, along with one touchdown and two interceptions.  He's got a favorable matchup coming next Monday against Houston, and then has a favorable looking matchup against Chicago in Week 14.  Garrard could be a sneaky plug-in for the next couple weeks, as the Bears have struggled to generate pass rush and defend the pass this season. Shaun Hill, San Francisco 49ers- Hill...Read more

Anatomy of an Upset: 49ers over Cowboys

The Cowboys were back for one week last week.  With their backs against the wall, they overcame the rival Washington Redskins in the 4th Quarter, pushed into a tie with the Redskins for second place in the NFC East, and got back in great position to make the playoffs.  With the two easiest remaining games on their schedule San Francisco and Seattle in consecutive weeks at home, most pundits see the Cowboys at 8-4 in two weeks and pushing for the playoffs. As Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend!"One of the advantage that I get from looking at the game tape of every Redskins' game is that I really get a good feel for how talented their opponents are.  And with Felix Jones heading to IR and Terrence Newman back on the injury list, and Adam Jones out for one more week, I don't see the Cowboys beating...Read more

News and notes from around the NFL

The NFL's Competition Committee will be convened for a special meeting, following the fallout after Sunday's Steelers-Chargers game. The officiating crew did not represent their brethren well in blowing another call which altered the final score. I've heard there was an exchange of $66 million which could have gone the other way if the zebras had made the correct call. I didn't see the game, but have also heard there were three other Steelers touchdowns taken off the board by the officials. NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira said he would do another background investigation of the officials who worked the game and I presume he means he will have their finances investigated.   Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said commissioner Roger Goodell is reinstating Adam "Pacman" Jones, who has been indefinitely suspended. Pacman could be back on the field in Pittsburgh on December 7. If Las Vegas has a line on how many more...Read more

Which current NFL players will be in the Hall of Fame?

I'll be fortunate to tell my grandchildren one day that I saw most of the future Hall of Famers listed below. Not on TV, but in person, watching them in games with my binoculars focused on them and observing their actions. Whenever any of them are playing in the NFL stadium closest to you, I hope you'll take advantage of the opportunity to go see them.   The primary criteria I used in selecting these players is not how their stats compare to others already in the Hall, but how they compare to their contemporaries. The players who were the best in their era are the most deserving to be inducted one day. This is measured best, in my opinion, by the number of Pro Bowl appearances and first-team All-Pro honors garnered. Please also note that I am measuring these players by their entire body of work. If a player's career ends today, would he be...Read more

NFL Power Rankings, Week Twelve

1. New York Giants (9-1) The G-men ran all over the Ravens last week in a very impressive performance, which helps to make them early favorites in postseason play.   2. Tennessee Titans (10-0) Just like Ol' Man River, Kerry Collins and the Titans keep rolling on. Their average margin of victory is eleven points per game.   3. Carolina Panthers (8-2) The Panthers are very quietly having a great season. They should continue to be a force as the schedule continues heading into the postseason.   4. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3) The Steelers defense is playing tough. If Ben Roethlisberger and Willie Parker get healthy, watch out.   5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3) Can Jon Gruden take the Bucs to the promised land again? They're playing better than their talent says they should.   6. Washington Redskins (7-3) They've dropped a few spots after losing to the Cowboys but they still have the hosses to...Read more

News and notes from around the NFL

The Jets took over first place in the AFC East with an overtime win at New England Thursday night, boosting their record to 7-3. After a perfect regular season last year, the Patriots are now 6-4 and in second place in the division. Buffalo and Miami each have 5-4 records and are also in the race.   Earlier this week, newly-signed Jets DB Ty Law dared the Patriots to throw the ball in his direction. The Pats did, scoring the touchdown which put the game into overtime after the PAT.  Randy Moss' $20,000 fine won't be levied after all. The league came to its senses and rescinded the fine after receiving flak from players and media alike. Moss' criticism of officiating was mild compared to other criticism and the fine was a knee-jerk reaction, in my opinion.   Falcons DT Grady Jackson, who is currently appealing a four-game league suspension under the substance abuse policy, has sued...Read more

Monday Night Football Fantasy Preview: 49ers vs. Cardinals

Week 10 of Monday Night Football brings us to the Valley of the Sun as the first-place Arizona Cardinals (5-3) welcome the division rival San Francisco 49ers (2-6) to University of Phoenix Stadium.  I'll highlight some things to watch for as a fantasy football owner tonight. QB Shaun Hill and the 49ers' Offense Hill replaced QB J.T. O'Sullivan during the 49ers' last game and makes his first start of the season tonight.  If he plays well, he could keep the job for the rest of the season,  If he has trouble taking care of the ball, as O'Sullivan did, Hill could be on a short leash.  But it would seem unlikely that the team would go back to O'Sullivan so soon if Hill plays poorly. It seems likely that San Francisco will rely on RB Frank Gore and the running game more often with Hill under center.  Gore could also have a...Read more
