Week 13 Preview: 49ers vs. Panthers
The 49ers are 3-8 after Ted Tollner came in to save the day. The Panthers are in a world of hurt and it’s a very terrible tailspin for them.
Ted Tollner saved the season for the 49ers where he put together a playbook that showed the Niners in a desperation to win. The Panthers are relying on David Carr, who has had a string of unsuccessful seasons dating back to the Texans.
So here we are, the Niners who are not going to have a winning record for the fifth straight season, can still put together a string of wins that can at least give Mike Nolan a little hope and job security. Alex Smith will most like miss the remainder of the season, which is actually a good thing. If he wants to remain as an NFL quarterback, staying healthy is key. The way that Trent Dilfer played last week is the way that we expected the Niners to perform all season long.
The Panthers have a struggling run game with DeShaun Foster carrying -5 yards last week. David Carr has had trouble locating gamebreaker wide out Steve Smith. So this could come down to execution of plays for both teams. Looking at it, the Niners are favored to win, and I actually think they will do it.
Patrick Willis and Frank Gore both took home awards this week for Defensive Player of the week and FedEx Ground player of the week, respectively. I expect these two to continue their success this week.
Here are my three things that the 49ers need to do in order to win.
1- Dilfer keeps the ball moving
Trent Dilfer needs to avoid the pass rush and find open receivers. Whether it is dump offs, or fade routes, as long as he keeps the ball in the air, the Niners offense will continue to be successful.
2- Pressure Carr
You pressure Carr, he’ll get sacked and his throws will be hurried. Througout his career, he has never had a good offensive line. Let’s see if the Niners can continue that.
3- Frank Gore
If he does what he did last week, then we have a win!
Predictions
MVP of the game: Frank Gore
You know why.
Surprise player of the game: Tully Banta-Cain
His touchdown last week was great. This week, he’ll get some nice sacks.
Final Score: Niners win 27-14
I believe that Toller is the solution!!!!
