49ers preseason schedule released; a look into DE Quentin Groves
For all you curious minds, the 49ers preseason schedule was released.
Week 1 - at Oakland (CBS5, KNBR 1050 and The Bone)
Week 2 - home vs Green Bay (CBS5, KNBR 1050 and The Bone)
Week 3 - at Chicago (Thurs 8/21, FOX)
Week 4 - home vs SD (Fri 8/29, CBS5, KNBR 1050 and The Bone)
So simply, the annual Raiders, Bears, and Chargers meetings are upon the team. Then we welcome Aaron Rodgers back to the Bay Area as we see how he can take over the Packes. Love Aaron Rodgers when he played at Cal and I hope big things for him.
The 49ers look to be in the making of meeting with Auburn DE Quentin Groves. As the signing of WR Bryant Johnson killed the possibilities of the Niners drafting a wide receiver, the team looks to find a pass rusher that can lead the frontline for the 49ers.

Off the bat from his stats, he looks to be a consistent workhorse. The upside about him is his speed and his burst. He comes right at you like a train, and quite frankly, offensive linemen might want to get off the tracks when they see him.
In his pursuit of the ball, I can see he has a real potential to become an amazing pass rusher. His size may not be the best for his position, but he’s still a work in progress. So the Niners are looking into him and it might be an idea. A lot of mock drafts are suggesting he might be the Niners’ choice. He isn’t going to be like Patrick Willis, an instant NFL star the moment he steps on the field. But if he fine tunes his game. Maybe he can be something great in the long run. If the DE position doesn’t work, he can play linebacker, which was something he has done in the past. The 3-4 scheme can be the perfect fit for him.

There are a lot of teams who are interested in Groves, but many of them really have greater needs or are interested in other similar players (Gholston, Harvey). I think that the 49ers have a better than 60/40 shot at landing Groves.
While he might not have as dramatic an impact as Willis (how many players do?) the collective impact of Groves, Willis and Lawson should make all of us smile.

One thing about Groves I do like is that he can play the line or become a linebacker. Definitely in the defensive system, it would not be a hard transition for him.
