The new 49ers uniforms should feature white pants
As mentioned in this previous post, the 49ers may be wearing some new threads in 2009. This is one reason why I haven’t bought my Patrick Willis jersey yet.
There have been some great suggestions. Some say that the current look (home, road) looks fine. In 2007, the team switched to black shoes, whereas in seasons past, the shoes where white.
Some suggest that the team should revert back to their classic look from the Superbowl winning ways (home, road).
Well, a few time last season the team went to those throwbacks. Looked a little odd with the Reebok logo on the sleeve stripes, when it was never there in the past.
Oh, and Jeff Ulbrich looks like a fool with the new OPTIMUS PRIME HELMET.
A few suggestions say that they should keep that old look, but add a little flavoring contemporary touch to it.
But one thing that I have been avid about for some time is the team wearing white pants.
Don’t get me wrong. I think the gold pants are a great staple point for the team. But when the Niners did wear the white pants (Superbowl XXIX, following season, year after that), it added a nostalgic feel from their old uniforms, but still had that contemporary look.
Now, I’m not suggesting the team should go switch to this (terrible photoshop by me) and abandon the gold pants, but the white pants look has been a pretty cool look for recent teams. Wearing the white pants along with the red tops for home games will be a fine look, but I think the team should wear the white pants ONLY when they are wearing the white tops.
The look I am proposing gives the team a very demanding look. Like many teams that have the white on white look (Ravens, Colts, Broncos) it looks clean and professional, but it makes it easier to spot on a green grass field.
But for some teams, the white on white look is a second alternate road look, which sometimes looks better than their primary road look (usually because it’s a refreshing look than what we’re used to seeing). Take a look at the Chargers (this versus this), Chiefs (this versus this), Texans (this versus this), Eagles (this versus this) and Bengals (this versus this).
And the Florida football teams like to wear their all whites early in the season, especially for home games, due to the sunny weather. And I think their all white looks are way cooler (no pun intended) than their other away look (the Dolphins have done the all white look for every game possible, home or road). Check out the Jaguars (this versus this), Dolphins (this versus this) and Buccaneers (this versus this).
For some teams, white on white is a great idea. Like the Seahawks (this versus this). This isn’t too bad (too bad they discontinued it).
And for some teams, it’s a terrible idea. Like the Rams (this versus this). This looks even worse at home.
But of course, the white on white look must be used only on certain cases. If the Niners were to visit the Rams, the white on white would work. Because most likely, the Rams would wear this, so a white on white doesn’t give the game two teams with gold pants. The same must be considered when the team visits New Orleans, because gold helmets and gold pants will conflict.
If the home team were to wear a colored top and white pants, then the Niners should wear their white top with gold pants. It will just look nicer. But if the home team is wearing all solids with no whites, both would be aesthetically pleasing.
And white pants are also nice at home too, but I think the gold pants should always be a thing worn at home.
Currently, there are 17 teams in the NFL (more than half the league) that feature the white on white look as the alternate road uniform. Maybe the Niners can be number 18. Having more than the standard look (red on gold at home, white on gold on the road) can give the team a fresh new look. And for all I know, having a new look is a nice way to signify the newcoming of a franchise that should be recognized.
Your thoughts? This is always a fun topic to talk about. Should the Niners bring back white pants (along with their gold pants)? And if they do, how should they be used? Road games only? Home games only? Mix and match? Only certain games?

They need to go back to the ol’ school with it. Keep it original. Maybe small improvments but not the over haul they had a few years back. Da Pack, Bears, Raiders, Vikings, Steelers, etc..,there very easy to identify among the average fan, and they’ve all been to the big one. Teams who need a new identity need those uniform changes when they dont win. The Falcons stole some silver and black to get there grove back in the early 90’s and went on to a superbowl appearance in 98(that really should of been the 49ers year if garrison didnt break an ankle). Cleveland had to change there team entirely in order to regain some respect dawning a new logo and the colors purple and black . Oh sorry, that was baltimore. The Rams, Broncos, Oilers/Titans, Buccaneers, they all needed a change and found some success and a new identity. All in all, the 49ers will always be remebered for those original uni’s during the championship years of the 80’s with Ronnie Lott playing the field with those black kicks destroying Mark Bavaro over the middle John Taylor blazing down the sideline’s after a punt return, towel still tucked in waving at the defending player goodbye. No change was necessary back then. So come on, bring back those Uniforms from past to present. So even when they stink now a days, they still look good on the field.

There is two ways to look at it. Remembering the past or try to start a new chapter in history. Both are great and I am really for a jersey reflecting the past. But I also want something new, something different also.

Do you remeber the new logo the 49ers unvailed uhh…cant remember the year exactly, but i believe it had a miner with a pick or something..??? Would you go for a new logo for the 49ers nowaday?..curious. As I recall, I remember thinking it was kind of kool in a way, but it really took away what the 49ers already established. Kind of like if say the Chicago Bears took away the “C” as a logo and threw up a Bear claw or something..it just doesnt look right.

Don’t recall that logo. This one?

Not as a main logo, but maybe an alternate for the sleeve?

Nah, but that’s one hell of a logo.LOL. What the hell is that ol’ fart shootin at?:D It was a logo they were entertaining the use of it then scratched the idea. Dont remember? It might of been after the 1989-90 superbowl season or so. Oh well. I’ve got an old fart of a brain. If anybody remebers that, let us know, its killin me.

Your awesome! That was the helmet of 1991. Where the hell did I get the miner and pick thing? hhmm…Maybe confused with the Sacramento team back then of the world league that eventually led to the European league. Any how, thanks, now my brain doesn’t hurt. But yeah, good they didn’t stick with that proto-type cause that was ugly after further review. I think the miner and pick thing sounds alot better.

Cal should go back with that Bearclaw of 83&86.

You know what would be cool? An alternate helmet. Teams have alternate tops. The Niners should always wear red, but maybe an alternate helmet? Just a different logo? I don’t know.
The 1991 helmet looks ugly.
I actually like the Cal throwback they wore earlier this past season, they should wear it more often.
