The linebackers that controlled the defense that was so dominant.

When you talk about the Denver Broncos, you can just think of the great running backs they have produced.

What about the Colts? They have that wide receiving core that just continues to be so consistent.

And the 49ers? Well, for two decades, it has always been the quarterback position. From Joe Montana, Steve Young to Jeff Garcia, they have been great quarterbacks. Dating before them, we had John Brodie and YA Tittle. Great quarterbacking for the 49ers. When you think of the 49ers, the quarternack position is the one that comes to mind.

Make or break season for Jason Hill http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/10/make-or-break-season-for-jason-hill/ http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/10/make-or-break-season-for-jason-hill/#comments Sun, 11 May 2008 00:12:18 +0000 Samuel Lam http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/10/make-or-break-season-for-jason-hill/ A post about Jason Hill and I won’t rag on him. The 49ers took Hill in last year’s NFL draft in the third round. But since the team was battling offensive problems, we didn’t get a chance to see Hill do much of anything. He had one catch last year and I don’t remember him being an impact at all.

Of course, you need to factor in the arrival or then 49er Darrell Jackson and Ashley Lelie. There was also Bryan Gilmore fighting for playing time. So with that, Jason Hill had to try to find some place to fit in. The only consistent wide out last year was Arnaz Battle, but there will be big changes for the 49ers this season.

Jackson is gone, and so is Gilmore. Enter Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce. With those two, along with Battle and Lelie, we see Hill once again stuck in the five-spot. Could he be the guy that will be that difference maker?

I had been working on this for a bit. Some of you may have noticed that right under the header, there are a few links.

There is a link labeled “2008 NFL Draft Results”. That has the results of this year’s draft with each player’s name linked to their college bio.

Nex to it is the “2008 Schedule”. That is the most up to date version with all preseason and regular season games. The time, channel, and everything about the schedule is up there!

Any updates on those I will notify you all and make those changes!

The battle of Alex Smith vs. Shaun Hill… so far a tie http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/06/the-battle-of-alex-smith-vs-shaun-hill-so-far-a-tie/ http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/06/the-battle-of-alex-smith-vs-shaun-hill-so-far-a-tie/#comments Tue, 06 May 2008 22:45:46 +0000 Samuel Lam http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/06/the-battle-of-alex-smith-vs-shaun-hill-so-far-a-tie/ The biggest focus this off-season will definitely be on Alex Smith and Shaun Hill. The future position of quarterback will be the biggest concern for the team. Without drafting a quarterback this past draft, there is a definite pressure for either Hill or Smith to deliver in training camp.

In a recent interview with Instan 49ers, offensive coordinator Mike Martz talks about how the battle might not be as bad on the development of the team offense.

The time for the two quarterbacks are split, which means that the learning curve is much more difficult for both players.

But Martz says that there are still positives about both quarterbacks.

A brief look at 49ers mini-camp; who needs it more? http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/03/a-brief-look-at-49ers-mini-camp-who-needs-it-more/ http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/03/a-brief-look-at-49ers-mini-camp-who-needs-it-more/#comments Sun, 04 May 2008 00:23:31 +0000 Samuel Lam http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/03/a-brief-look-at-49ers-mini-camp-who-needs-it-more/ Mike Nolan gives us a little idea of what he is seeing during this weekend’s mini-camp.

During the camp, there are only two things that really come to my attention.

Obviously, the quarterback situation will be monitered with all eyes available. Who is going to be our opening day quarterback? Both QBs look to be splitting the snaps.

My biggest concern comes to TE Vernon Davis. It’s been two seasons filled with injuries. Will he ever be that beast of a tight end that we hope he’d become? Will he be an Antonio Gates? Or will he just be a regular TE that just doesn’t demand a great game? I don’t know.

It’s not too much to get too riled up with this at the moment. As the summer approaches, there we will really get a chance to see what the Niners have in stored. But until then, all players are going to get their feet wet and see what lies ahead this season.

The new 49ers uniforms should feature white pants http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/02/the-new-49ers-uniforms-should-feature-white-pants/ http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/02/the-new-49ers-uniforms-should-feature-white-pants/#comments Sat, 03 May 2008 02:07:34 +0000 Samuel Lam http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/05/02/the-new-49ers-uniforms-should-feature-white-pants/ As mentioned in this previous post, the 49ers may be wearing some new threads in 2009. This is one reason why I haven’t bought my Patrick Willis jersey yet.

There have been some great suggestions. Some say that the current look (home, road) looks fine. In 2007, the team switched to black shoes, whereas in seasons past, the shoes where white.

Some suggest that the team should revert back to their classic look from the Superbowl winning ways (home, road).

Well, a few time last season the team went to those throwbacks. Looked a little odd with the Reebok logo on the sleeve stripes, when it was never there in the past.
Oh, and Jeff Ulbrich looks like a fool with the new OPTIMUS PRIME HELMET.

A few suggestions say that they should keep that old look, but add a little flavoring contemporary touch to it.

But one thing that I have been avid about for some time is the team wearing white pants.

49ers new undrafted rookie free agent signings http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/04/30/49ers-new-undrafted-rookie-free-agent-signings/ http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/04/30/49ers-new-undrafted-rookie-free-agent-signings/#comments Wed, 30 Apr 2008 08:56:36 +0000 Samuel Lam http://mvn.com/nfl-49ers/2008/04/30/49ers-new-undrafted-rookie-free-agent-signings/ Undrafted free agents are fun. There you can either find duds or great players like a Tony Romo.

The Niners hope that they can do that and find the diamond in the rough. The team has recently signed some rookie free agents and I’ll give you a little bit about each of them.

WR Robert Jordan (California)
DL Louis Holmes (Arizona)
OL Brian De La Puente (California)
TE Joe Jon Finley (Oklahoma)
LB Ezra Butler (Nevada)
WR Cameron Colvin (Oregon)

Robert Jordan
Wide Receiver- Cal
5′11″/171 pounds

From his profile on the Cal website: Ranks seventh at Cal in career receptions (156) and ninth in receiving yards (2,047) and ninth in receiving touchdowns (13) … owns the Cal record for consecutive games with a reception (42) … started more games (37) than any other player on the team … played in the Hula Bowl Senior All-Star Game on Jan. 12 and led his team with four catches for 84 yards, including a 15-yard TD grab.

It’s no surprise that I am a Bears fan, so watching Jordan the past few seasons really gives me a little incentive to like him over Josh Morgan or Jason Hill. Jordan was under the shadow of DeSean Jackson and Lavelle Hawkins. But as a receiver, he has the speed and hands to make it in the NFL. More importantly, I can see him really being a big game player. I had wanted the team to get a wide receiver in the draft. Well, maybe this will do. Nothing to knock on Morgan or Hill, but I hope Jordan beats both of them out. If he makes the team, I’m getting his jersey!

The original link can be found HERE.

I really feel that Caleb Campbell’s draft means a lot to the nation, being that he can serve the country while doing it on a bigger stage in the NFL.

Also, Dan Patrick talked about this exact article during an interview with Caleb Campbell during his radio show on Tuesday.
(It’s the 3rd hour for Tuesday’s show. He talks about my article in the 15th minute, then talks more about it after the interview. Check out the stream right HERE.
