Can the media lay off Grossman already?

SIDE NOTE: Be sure to check out 360ThePitch.com for the NFL “Blitz” Podcast with Chris Maier and Mike Royko, I participated in their latest podcast along with the Colts’ writer on MVN, and it should be up on their website sometime Thursday. It was a Super Bowl “round-table discussion” and was really a lot of fun. Don’t miss it!

It’s not exactly a shock, but the media just refuses to stop the criticism of Rex Grossman just about every day, and Lovie Smith is starting to get fed up with it:

Coach Lovie Smith clearly didn’t appreciate when a reporter asked him Wednesday to identify a scenario in the Super Bowl in which he would replace Grossman with backup Brian Griese.

“I’m just wondering if Peyton Manning will be asked that question,” Smith said. “Probably not. Rex Grossman should not be asked that question. I shouldn’t be asked that question. Rex is our quarterback. I should not have to continue to go over that. I am not planning on pulling Brian Urlacher or Olin Kreutz either.”

They’re actually asking if Grossman is going to be replaced with Griese in the Super Bowl? How ridiculous is that? Rex leads this team to the SB and they’re wondering if Lovie would ever contemplate taking him out during the game. It’s pretty pathetic when most of the media can’t seem to get off one subject that they really shouldn’t be discussing so much.

I am a season ticet holder for the Bears and I personally feel that Rex still has not proven himself as a quality starting quarterback. He is certanly not consistant, and he has more that his fare share of problems. Again PERSONALLY I do not want the media to lay off Grossman until he has shown everyone that he can handel it. I think it is a direct reflection of his inability to handel the pressure that a defensive line gives him. If he was able to shrug off the media I think it would do a lot for his psyche on and off the field. Again this is my PERSONAL OPINION!!! Take it or leave it…

I think Rex does an EXCELLENT job of shrugging off the media. Granted, he has a lot to learn but I do believe he is the quarterback of the future for the Bears. If only he could learn to step up in the pocket, I think that would do wonders to combat the perception that he can’t handle pressure. Which right now, he really has trouble with. Here’s to hoping the O-Line can keep the Colts out of his face.
