I’m Telling You There’s a Chance
This classic line from one of my favorite movies totally sums up my feelings on the Bears ability to turn their season around. The Bears have a great opportunity this weekend against the Seahawks to make a clear statement that they will not go away.
Last week, the Bears defense only allowed 221 yards of total offense last week against the Raiders. Needless to say, this was a vast improvement over the previous weeks 387 total yards against the Lions. I know the Raider’s don’t exactly have a prolific offense, but hey I’m a Bears Fan, I’m thinking positively.
It also doesn’t hurt that Sean Alexander is listed as questionable for this Sunday’s game, and most likely will not be playing. Now Alexander hasn’t been as big a threat this year as he has in previous years, but then again it doesn’t really upset me that a former NFL touchdown record holder will be watching this week’s game from the sidelines. Maurice Morris will most likely be the starter tomorrow.
The Bears offense still is something to be desired. My faith in Rex Grossman is shaky at best, but I like the feeling of rejuvenation that he brought last week against the Raiders. That 59 yard TD pass was the most exciting play I can think of all season for the Bears, and making the big play is something that Grossman does have the ability to do.
Cedric Benson had a much more respectable game last week, rushing 29 times for 76 yards and a late fourth quarter touchdown. The way he was running between the tackles last game gave me visions of how good of a player he could potentially be. At the very least it made me feel like he earned his money for at least one game.
But what about after this week? . The remaining bears schedule only has four teams with winning records in it, and that includes Seattle and Washington who are both 5-4. I would place the Bears as contenders in all remaining games with perhaps the exceptions of the Giants and Packers games.
This week’s outlook? I expect positive things from the Bears if Grossman doesn’t turn the ball over and the Defense plays to their ability.
