Bears: How Far You Have Fallen

I am almost at a loss for words.  In the beginning of this season, coming off last year’s Super Bowl appearance, I would never have expected my beloved Bears to be so far down in the dumps.  On the verge of being out of playoff contention, it seems that it would take some minor miracles and a whole lot of luck to allow the Bears to win out the remainder of this season.

Last week, the Bears defense gave up 425 yards of total offense to the Seahawks, and are now dead last in the NFC in rushing defense, allowing 125.7 ypg.  Brian Urlacher, while the top defensive performer in last week’s game, still isn’t playing to his full potential while feeling the effects of his lower back injury.  I find myself fairly disappointed with Mark Anderson also, who is on pace for only 7.2 sacks this season.  Someone who had 12 sacks last season and who won the starting role from Alex Brown should be put to a higher standard.

I find myself once again with mixed feelings about the Bears offensive unit.  While Grossman had what would probably be considered one of his better games, throwing for 266 yards and no interceptions, he somehow always manages to make me yell at the screen.  I take back my last week’s statement that Grossman has the ability to make the big play, because even if he does, he will almost surely negate it with some other type of turnover.

The one highlight from last week’s game was once again a respectable showing from Cedric Benson.  Last week he averaged 8.1 yards per carry, and was able to come up with another touchdown.  Granted these numbers are slanted because the touchdown came on a 43 yard run, but I have to have something good to say about a team so desperately trying to disappoint me.

But can I just blindly hope that the Bears will be able to turn things around while facing playoff elimination from here on out?

The Broncos are on a roll.  Last Week Jay Cutler had a 137.0 passer rating…his best ever.   Javon Walker has the potential to make his first start since week 3, but will most likely only see limited action if he does in fact play.  Andre Hall should make the start at running back, but at this point even a third string running back will only have mild trouble running against the Bears

.A fan never wants to admit that he thinks his team doesn’t have much of a chance to succeed.  While it pains me to say it, this just isn’t going to be the game for the Bears to start their improbable run towards a wildcard playoff spot.  I will be rooting for a Bears upset, but I just don’t see it happening.

We must stand by our boys! Win, Loose, or turnover.
