ESPN reports Chad To Sit If Not Traded
ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reported he has a source (Drew Rosenhaus) who says Chad Johnson feels betrayed by Marvin Lewis and is threatening to sit out if he is not traded. Big Deal. After all, he spent all week telling everyone but the Cincinnati media that he wasn’t happy and basically said he wanted to be traded.
As for the part about Marvin, I believe Chad is being quite hypocritical. Was Marvin unhappy with Chad mouthing off to him on the sidelines and having yet another locker room meltdown in 2007? Of course. Did Marvin ever speak to the media about it. Not that I can recall. As a matter of fact, Marvin has never publicly chastised Chad Johnson in a negative fashion in his five years with the team (not even after Chad’s infamous playoff meltdown).
My personal opinion is Bengal fans need to relax and stop listening to the talk (that includes the Cincinnati media). The whole point of Rosenhaus’ strategy is to create a public outcry for his departure. Trading Chad is extremely doubtful at this point. #1 I doubt someone will ante up a 1st round pick. #2 Chad’s current contract would force the team to take a huge cap hit (i.e. when the cap hit outweighs the current year cap value a trade is doubtful).
Sorry Chad, the team has you under contract for 4 more years and you may or may not be worth extra $$$ when you are 35. My recommendation, have a nice sit down with the staff to clear the air and eat a little healthier. He needs to take a look at himself and find out what he can do to help the team better. Teams like New England do not tolerate such antics, and I believe Cincinnati is within its rights to expect its players to uphold the same standards.
Finally, if Chad wants says he wants to sit, the best response for the Bengals is to let him. (I personally love to hear the front office is digging in in response to Chad’s antics). Chad will find out real quick that the media and endorsers don’t like bystanders.
