Stalemate! Chad Returns to Bengals; Barely Practices
Ever since the Bengals passed on trading Chad Johnson on draft day, Bengals fans and the media have had June 12th circled on the calender as Decision Day. Here we are on June 12th and nothing happened. Or almost nothing. No Chad Johnson sound bites. No Marvin laying down the law. No Chad practicing in the morning, then sort of practicing in the afternoon. The biggest drama of the day turned out to be whether or not Ocho was injured or not and if so what part of him hurt.
All the media networks tried to make the most of the non-activity by talking about what a distraction it was at camp. Yet, Chad said nothing, the team said little to nothing and practice seem to go fairly well. From the Bengal’s perspective it probably went better than expected. Sure the media disected every detail and said they need to do something to resolve the situation. When the morning session started, the team practiced (Wow!). After showing up 10 minutes late, Chad refused the urge to talk to the media and watched without causing much of a stir (He even managed to talk to a few teammates. Stop the Presses!) The team even tried to diffuse Chad’s silent protest by saying he had an ailment.
In the early afternoon, the drama heated up. Word had leaked that Chad supposedly told the team his back was hurting or was it his ankle hurting. Hey it wouldn’t be the Chad Johnson Saga without him contradicting himself. The team followed up by issueing a statement:
Chad Johnson was given a physical this morning by one of the Bengals’ team doctors. He did not report any physical problems to the doctor, and he was cleared by the doctor for practice. Later, after the physical was concluded, Chad told our training staff that his back was sore. He refused to practice. (ESPN.com)
If Chad passed a physical then begged out of practice due to injury, a collective bargaining agreement issue is always a possibility. The team’s statement is proof the Bengals are documenting everything Chad does in the event they need to protect their rights. Drew Rosenhaus tried to diffuse the situation by saying the team recommended Chad have arthroscopic ankle surgery to prove the pain was real. Unfortunately, the team agreed with the assessment but noted that was immediately after the season and Chad refused surgery. He then passed a team physical today. Sorry, Drew but there is no sympathy for passing on surgery in February to make an issue out of it in June. Realizing he was backed into a corner, Chad worked out in the afternoon or at least went through a few motions.
All in all, the situation could have been much worse. The circus has only just begun but thus far cool head’s have prevailed and the team has been able to practice and Chad is staying quiet. How long it will last is anyone’s guess. Thus far it is looking as if both sides are trying to see which side will flinch first. Odds are Mike Brown won’t be the one flinching. Based on today’s events could injured reserve be a way to resolve the issue? Talk about an odd solution.

Im not a Bengals nor a Chad Johnson fan(Im a Raiders fan)… I just wanna voice my opinion after heaaring about it for for this whole offseason(other than Adam “Pacman” Jones this has been the hottest topic)
I personally think the Bengals should’ve traded Johnson to a team like the Cowboys, Jaguars, Redskins, etc anyone who offered a 1st round pick…
No one denies that Ocho Cinco is an awesome receiver and a funny character… Also everyone knows Ocho LOVES the cameras, he loves the attention… If Ocho wanted to be traded, had a problem with management, wanted a new contract, or whatever it might be… He should’ve kept his mouth shut and gone to talk to Marvin Lewis, the GM, team president, owner, anybody but the media… The Bengals could’ve handled this better as well but Ocho has kept it going… A couple of weeks ago i was watching NFL Total Access and the commentators obviously asked him about his situation with the team and Chad could’ve easily avoided the topic… But instead he put this serious face on… and said he was getting old and he wanted to win and even said that he might be contemplating retirement… Come on Chad WTF is that? How can Chad even have the “balls” to go and practice with his teammates after the things he said about the squad… He literally threw his team under the bus and said they sucked(in other words) he said the defense couldn’t stop anyone, which is very true but he obviously has friends on the team and most likely a couple of guys on defense… Regardless of wether its a truthful statement or not you just dont say that in public… If you wanna win dont create unnessacary drama on your team by indectly calling out your teammates, coaches, management, etc… He’s criticized almost everyone on the team im shocked he hasnt called out the team doctors or something… Point is if you want something(trade) why make a soap opera of your situation… And Chad said if he wasnt traded he wouldnt practice, so be a man and keep your word… We’ve all most likely have said something that we didnt keep our word on… But dont go out there say it publically and then go back on your word… I wouldnt want this guy on my team… I dont care how greatof a player he his… I wouldnt want a loud mouth, shit talking, pre madona WR on my team… And my team was in a similar situation last year with Randy Moss so we gave him up for a 4th round pick… Because he didnt wanna play for the Raiders and we had a new young energetic head coach with a very young team… But the Bengals situation is alot easier you were offered a 1st and 3rd round pick… I would’ve jumped on that offer as soon as i heard it and shipped Johnson away, and improved my defense… GOOD LUK BENGALS… AND
GO RAIDERS!!!

First off, Chad didn’t throw his team under the bus. He was calling out the front office, the same way TRUE Bengals fans have been doing for years. Yeah, they had a lot of injuries at LB last year. The point is, those players that were injured SHOULDN’T be starters on an NFL team. So, with that said, thos injuries shouldn’t be an excuse given by a sorry ass front office that is trying to cover their own ass when they are called out by one of their franchise players. Chad wants to win man, and if Cincy isn’t going to give him teh oppurtunity to do so, let him go elsewhere and get something for him. He didn’t say anything that anybody , who knows football, didn’t know. The Bengals Defense sucks!!!! pure and simple. They have some talent, but as a whole, they suck!!!!! MAke the freakin’ moves to solidify the D. I like the draft this year, but man. There are so many veteran players available to go out an get right now. It doesn’t even look like they are trying. This team is starting to look like the Mike Brown teams of old. There is only one bright spot, Carson Palmer. The rest of the offense (team, i say that because mostly the defense doesn’t look like NFL caliber threat) is getting old. I have a feeling they have already passed up ont heir window of oppurtunity. I hope I am wrong, but unless these rookies come in and tear it up, they are screwed.

GoldenGod its fine that Chad wants to win and wants out but handle it the right way and dont go publically talking about it… How did Chad no throw his team under the bus he said they sucked, it doesnt matter if they do you just dont say that… Then you dont say your even contemplating on retirement if you dont get your way on national T.V(NFL Network) and then a couple of days later show up to mini camp like nothing… Goldne Brown if i were a Bengals fan i would want Chad out, trade him for a 1st round pick…

Golden God, how can you not say that Chad hasn’t thrown his team under the bus. He has gone out of his way to criticize the organization this off-season, ignores the local media like the plaque and most disturbing has frequent outbursts both on the field and in the locker room (vs. Steelers in a playoff game we were winning and vs. NE last year).
All in all, Chad is a mixed bag. I love his talent but worry we don’t have the support structure (i.e. team leaders) to keep Chad in check if the going gets tough.
The Bengals really need to improve team chemistry and find leaders and trading Chad to Washington could have been a step in the right direction (but also would have set a bad precedent). That said, the team has made its decision and now must live with it. Trading Chad now is not an option. I just hope it works out. Bringing in his junior college coach was a huge step in the right direction.

The same local media that wants to criticize Chad as soon as the going does get rough? I wouldn’t talk to those sorry excuse for journalists either? Bunch of big mouths that really don’t know what they are talking about. When things are going good in cincy, everybody loves Chad. As soon as things start going south, oh maybe its Chad’s antics that are hurting the team. That wouldn’t frustrate any of you?!?! The media is full of a bunch of overpayed know it alls that get paid to make assumptions. They have no clue how a professional sport team is or should be ran. When I say Chad didn’t throw his team under the bus I am absolutely correct. Chad is criticizing the front office for NOT making this team a better team. Maybe….just maybe this year will be a little different with the young talent coming in. I don’t see it. Why haven’t the Bengals made a push for JAson Taylor, why haven’t they tried to bring Takeo back. I haven’t even read anywhere that they have thought about these ventures. I love the Bengals, but they jsut have this losing metality programmed into their heads. Chad isn’t a loser and he has had ENOUGH!!! Palmer should be more peaved!! Come on man, I’m putting up all these BIG numbers and it doesn’t matter because the defense is going to give the game up? Something is seriously wrong here when you have guys like Caleb Miller and Jeanty starting. These guys are practice squad talent at best. ok I’m being a little too hard, maybe 3rd stringers. This is ridiculous guys and Chad is only stating what TRUE bengals fans are thinking, or at least any with half a brain.

GOLDEN GOD CHANGE YOUR NAME TO GOLDEN IDIOT… FIRST OFF YEAH OFFCOURSE CARSON MUST BE MAD ABOUT WHAT THEIR ACCOMPLISHING ON OFFENSE, AND THE DEFENSE BEING A CONSISTENT LIABILITY… BUT YOU DO GO TO THE MEDIA AND EXPRESS THESE FEELINGS, YOU GO TO THE FRONT OFFICE TALK TO THE PRESIDENT, GM, OWNER, I DONT KNOW SOMEONE BUT NOT THE MEDIA… LIKE I PREVIOUSLY STATED YOU DONT GO AND STATE THINGS PUBLICALLY ABOUT YOUR TEAM OR YOUR PERSONAL INTERESTS… SECOND OFF SINCE YOU KNOW HOW TO RUN A PROFENSSIONAL SPORTS TEAM WHY AEN’T YOU DOING IT? HMMMMMM?(JUST SKIP THAT QUESTION, YOU HAVE NO ANSWER SO DONT ATTEMPT TO USE THAT AGAIN)… THIRD OFF WHY WOULD A TEAM LIKE THE BENGALS TRADE FOR A GUY LIKE JASON TAYLOR, TAYLOR HAS CLEARLY STATED HE ONLY PLANS TO PLAY ONE MORE SEASON… RIGHTTTTT? HE’S ALSO STATED THAT HE WANTS TO END HIS CAREER WINNING SO WHY WOULD HE GO TO CINCY? SO EVEN IF HE WAS WILLING TO GO TO CINCY HE’S NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION , EITHER WAY CINCY CAN’T GIVE THE FINS WHAT THEY WANT FOR HIM WHICH IS A FIRST(MAYBE A SECOND) NO WAY THE BENGALS CAN GIVE THAT UP WITH THE DEFENSE THEY HAVE… AND TAKEO? WHAT TAKEO ARE YOU SPEAKING OF? THE OLD INJURY PRONE TAKEO? HMMMMM…. THATS NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION EITHER IS IT? SO IF THE MEDIA HAS CRITICIZED CHAD WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS? BECAUSE HE LIKES TO ATTRACT ATTENTION UPON HIMSELF? RIGHTTTTTTTT? WELL INSTEAD OF CALMING DOWN AND HANDLING THE SITUATION CORRECTLY HE GOES AND SAYS THAT THE DEFENSE SUCKS AND THE BENGALS ORGANIZATION DOESN’T CARE ABOUT WINNING, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH… THEN HE SAYS HE MIGHT BE CONTEMPLATING RETIREMENT ON NATIONAL TV(NFL NETWORK) IF HIS WISHES AREN’T GRANTED… THEN A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER HE’S IN CINCY PRACTICING LIKE NOTHING… LIKE EVERYTHINGS PEACHES & CREAM? I’VE NEVER RAN AN NFL TEAM, BUT I DO KNOW THAT NO PLAYER IS WORTH WHAT JOHNSON HAS PUT THE FRANCHISE THROUGH THIS OFFSEASON… HE DRAGGED THE BENGALS NAME THROUGH THE DIRT AND BACK, AND THEN STOMPED ON THE ORGANIZATION, PLAYERS, COACHES, OWNER(S), FANS, ETC… IF I WERE A BENGAL FAN I WOULD FEEL EXTREMLY DISRESRECTED… ANYONE “with half a brain” WOULD FEEL THAT WAY… RIGHT GOLDEN IDIOT? I THINK YOU’VE GOT A BONER FOR CHAD… HUH? lol…
GO RAIDERS!!!

Wow!!!! O.K. Pat, you done yelling? geez, never seen anyone more adament about a team that isn’t theirs. But man, if your going to argue, at least do it with dignity. Golden Idiot? I must say i have been called worse. But, I do believe a Golden Idiot could run this team better than the Mike Brown administration. I do have a big question for you. First I will paste your comment then I will reply with my question.
BUT YOU DO GO TO THE MEDIA AND EXPRESS THESE FEELINGS, YOU GO TO THE FRONT OFFICE TALK TO THE PRESIDENT, GM, OWNER, I DONT KNOW SOMEONE BUT NOT THE MEDIA…
First you say YOU DO GO TO THE MEDIA, then you say I DONT KNOW SOMEONE BUT NOT THE MEDIA. My question is, which one is it? How can I possibly debate with someone who doesn’t even know where they stand? The thing you have to remember is, Chad didn’t initially go to the media demanding a trade. In fact, Chad wanted the media to display his concerns of where the team is headed. Chad didn’t want to be traded out of cincy until he got a bunch of negative feedback for this. You must know this. Chad isn’t the most well spoken guy, and his words don’t always come out as profound as YOU might like them to. Some people have a hard time of relating how they feel when they are frustrated and don’t really know how to correctively express themselves without banging their fists’ on the ground, shouting, and name calling ( cough, cough) Ahem……Excuse me, sound a little familiar? Oh what do I know, I’m just a Golden Idiot.
Now, with that aside. With the whole debate about Jason Taylor, you asked why should we sign him for 1 year? Simple, BECAUSE of the young talent that we have. Do you really think the Bengals should throw a bunch of rookies out there to start with 2nd and 3rd year players as their veteran leadership? HELL NO!!!! Or, would you rather them sit behind seasoned veterans, I.E….. Palmer with Kitna. I am not speaking of these moves as permanent solutions, jsut as defensive leaders. Which, by the way, the Bengals have NONE. The permanent solution IS the young talent. That is what the draft is for.
p.s. I don’t have a boner for Chad. Damn dude, call me dumb AND gay. That just aint right.
*DISCLAIMER. The views and thoughts of Golden God are not meant to offend either DUMB or GAY people. Golden God loves ALL people. Golden God just wanted to make a point. Thank you.

I didn’t mean sign Jason Taylor for 1 year. I meant trade for him even if we do only get him for 1 year. we supposedly already drafted the future core behind our D-line. So, we won’t need a big first round pick next year. Give them a first rounder for the veteran leadership that Jason Taylor would provide.

Hahahaha! Me yelling? Come on Golden Idiot… Now howd you figure that one out? Same way you figured out that Johnson didnt throw his team under the bus… Oh do the capital letters make you think im yelling? No, no, no… I was just stating a point that you pretty much just proved… First off i know Chad isn’t the best with words and sometimes(most of the time) he doesnt get through to people(cough, cough)… Why go to the media at all… The best teams?players in history didnt have problems and then went to the media to discuss it(Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, Marvin Harrison, Steve Young, Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, etc… example-Did you ever hear Peyton Mannig or Marvin Harrison going to the media and saying the defense sucked or critizing anyone, when they couldn’t beat the Patriots because their run defense couldn’t stop anyone and corners were getting beaten practicaly every down? Did you? Didnt think so… Thats what coaches, agents, and team presidents are for… Rightttttt? And if it doesnt work than you let your agent know you will not play for the team again and will hold out if your wishes aren’t granted, than your agent should communicate to the team where you stand… And its his job to convince the team and then seek a trade… But not go on NFL Network and threaten you MIGHT retire…(sorry about the capital letter, its ok im not yelling)… Maybe if Chad would’ve gone and spoken with team officials about his issues with the team we might not be having this discussion and Chad might be putting on his regular show with another jersey on or he might have been still in Cincy and people would look at him with a little more respect and he would could have some dignity & nerve left… And i come here and discuss this BECAUSE IF NOT I JUST LEAVE IDIOTS LIKE YOU TO DISCUSS IT…. im not yelling its ok… hahhaha…
GO RAIDERS!!!
And Jason Taylor… Who wants to pay a guy who makes so much money and is ready to move on to Hollywood in a year? Anyways what in the world makes you think that Taylor would go to Cincy? Why he’d be in the same situation as he is in Miami… Now name your D-line, LB’s, safeties, corners and think again, will you need a big 1st round pick next year? Well i think so… But we’ll have to wait and see…
And i belive Mike Brown hasnt ran the team an ideal way, and there are many who could do better but not you… And i base that on your previous comments…
