Bills lose it in a heartbreaker

The Cowboys gave the Buffalo Bills every chance to win this game and they did not.

Romo threw five interceptions, Terrell Owens dropped the two-point conversion, Buffalo couldn’t recover the onside attempt, they couldn’t cover the underneath routes and Nick Folk hit the game winner from 50 yards out. Not once but twice, as Dick Jauron called time out the first time.

Rough game for Bills fans.

This game was not a case of the Bills being outmatched. This is a game Buffalo should’ve won. When you are plus-five in the turnover department, you win the game 99.9 percent of the time.

Buffalo got turnovers, two defensive touchdowns, a special teams touchdown, solid defensive play and they even managed to shutdown TO.

As a Buffalo fan I was prepared for the worst late in the game, which I assumed would be sending the game to OT. But botching the onside kick ensured Dallas had a chance to lock the game up in regulation.

This is the second time this season that this occurred. In week one, Buffalo led the game all but the last two seconds of the game, when Jason Elam ran onto the field and kicked the winner with time expiring. The same happened Monday night.

The only positive from this one is we know Buffalo can play with the best of ‘em…they just need to learn how to finish. The problems of a young team.

I can’t believe the call before half to kick a 53 yd FG instead of trying to pin Dallas or at least have them start @ there own 20. That was a 6 point swing right there.

Dick Jauron NEEDS to be fired.

Right now, this is a terrible time to be a Bills fan. The only thing I can take from this is that Trent Edwards should be the starting QB for the rest of the year, as J.P would have knocked us out of the game much sooner.

Also, yeah, fire Dick Jauron as soon as possible. Now, for instance.

How about the 1st quarter where they went for 4th and 1 and didn’t get it from easy field goal range. Bet they’d like that play on a do-over.

I don’t understand all these people (especially the ESPN Announcers) declaring that Trent Edwards should be the starter. Doesn’t anybody realize that the only reason the Bills lost that game was because the offense scored a measly 3 points the entire game while the defense and special teams got the 3 TD’s? A single offensive touchdown for the Bills would have locked the game…even one more field goal would have sealed it. Furthermore, Trent Edwards, while in easy field goal range, through a positively idiotic pass for the goal line and was picked off. The number one rule when you have a lead? Protect the football! I’m not saying Losman would have done any better but if Trent Edwards proved anything last night it was that he is not ready for the starting job.

The problem with that 3rd down pass started way before Edwards dropped back to pass. I agree it was his worst throw of the night, but they shouldn’t have even been in that situation. RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!!! Take your chip-shot field goal (that even Lindell can’t miss… hopefully) and go up 11 points. Stupid play calling blew that game. Also I agree with the call on 4th and 1 earlier in the game. I wasn’t upset with going for it on fourth down, but was upset with the stupid double-reverse trick play crap. It’s that kind of stuff that got Mularkey run out of town. If you can’t gain 1 yard, you should quick-kick on 3rd down. Do we have a QB-sneak play in the playbook? All he has to do is take the snap and fall down to gain 1 yard.

The play calling in the three games where the Bills have been up late in the game is ATROCIOUS at best. They did the same thing against Denver: 3rd down - tried the long bomb - incomplete. Left enough time on the clock so Denver can kick a late FG to win. Against the Jets: 3rd down - tried a short pass - incomplete. Left plenty of time for the Jets to almost get into FG range. Thankfully a poor pass by Chad Pennington let the Bills coaches off the hook. Dallas - same crap. Why are we doing this time after time after time? Dick Jauron should watch video of NE, Pittsburgh, Indy and the like, and watch how they finish games. You’d be hard pressed to find many games where those teams lose close games late because they didn’t manage the clock properly.

My take on Trent Edwards is, he is a good young QB. I like the way he delivers the ball, and most of the time it is to the correct receiver, and placed decently (I see a tendency to throw high early on - may be rookie nerves.) Also, I see him looking off coverage! When was the last time you saw that in Buffalo?? Losman? He locks onto a receiver before the ball is snapped. Losman should not be resigned in the offseason. How much ever he’d be getting is too much for a QB that has had enough time to prove himself, but has failed time after time. Let Edwards play and get game experience. You don’t get that carrying a clipboard on the sidelines. At the end of the season reevaluate Edwards and if you don’t think he’s the right fit, find a FA and/or use a mid-round pick on one.

I agree with the comments above attributing the loss to idiotic play calling, especially on the third down interception throw by Edwards. While the rookie showed flashes of brilliance in spite of the offense only yielding a measly three points, I believe the burden of the loss rests on the offensive coordinator calling unconventional play calls in conventional and rather pedestrian situations, (3rd on 1, run the fucking football!)

I agree with some of you who put the blame on the play calling and coaching of Steve Fairchild and Dick Jauron.

Perry Fewell called the game of his life defensively.

Trent Edwards again looked good in the pocket, getting rid of the pocket in time and looking strong in the face of a heavy rush.

Marshawn Lynch also should have received more touches in the second half. Kill the clock!
