Buffalo lineman Peters makes first Pro Bowl
In his first full season at left tackle, Jason Peters is going to the Pro Bowl as a starter.
Peters will join the Patriots’ Matt Light as the starting tackles for the AFC team. Also on the line are Pittsburgh’s Alan Faneca, New England’s Logan Mankins and Indy’s Jeff Saturday. Together they will block for starters Tom Brady and LaDainian Tomlinson. Backing up Peters and Light will be Baltimore’s Jonathan Ogden.
Peters is the only member of the 2007 Bills to be going to Honolulu. 2006 Pro Bowlers Brian Moorman and Aaron Schobel lost out to Oakland punter Shane Lechler and defensive ends Jared Allen (Kansas City), Kyle Vanden Bosch (Tennessee) and Jason Taylor (Miami).
It’s been a crazy career so far for Peters since he went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004. Buffalo signed him and didn’t quite know what to do with him. Peters played tight end in college, but at 6-4, 328, he was a bit big for that role in the NFL. However, his 4.8 40-yard dash time definitely was intriguing.
In the 2004 season, Peters served as a wedge buster on special teams and worked in other various blocking roles. He did more of the same in 2005, later taking over at right tackle for first round bust Mike Williams. In the 2005 opener, he caught a touchdown pass from J.P. Losman in a goal line situation.
In 2006, he won the starting job at right tackle to start the season, then moved over to left tackle after week seven. This year he has started at left tackle every game and has been the key to the line’s strong play
According to Stats.com, Peters has allowed six sacks this season and has committed six penalties (five false starts, 1 hold). Those numbers aren’t too bad considering Peters faces the team’s best pass rusher one-on-one every week.
Credit definitely goes to line coach Jim McNally for turning this prospect into one of the best linemen on the league.

Hey, worked for Rueben Brown didn’t it? Get one Pro Bowl and as long as you don’t die, you’ll be going for the rest of your career.
