Roscoe Parrish’s new contract numbers
Last Friday, I posted about Roscoe Parrish’s contract extension, but the length and amount of money was unknown at the time. However, I’ve done some digging and come up with the answers.
Previously, Parrish’s contract was set to expire after the 2008 season and he would earn $520,000.
Parrish’s base salary in 2008 is still the same in the extension, but it adds on three more years, keeping him in Buffalo through the 2011 season. Considering he’s coming off a rookie contract, the difference isn’t that much in salary.
Parrish earns 1-million in 2009, 1.025-million in 2010 and 1.025-million in 2011. I don’t know the extent of the contract and signing bonuses, but Pro Football Talk is reporting he gets a 1.1-million signing-bonus and a 1.5-million bonus in 2009. Each of the following years, he receives $500,000 in bonuses.
This is a very team-friendly extension, considering that in 2009, Josh Reed Earns 2.025-million and Peerless Price would earn 2.8-million.
Yeah, that Price move didn’t quite work out for Marv Levy.
Next step, locking up Lee Evans.

dan,
pft has a 3.25 M bonus as well at start of 2008. my math looks like 4 yrs/10.87M if 2008 salary is the same. not a bad deal, especially if he continues to improve. doesnt look as good with the big bonus though.

As long as it’s bonus money and not base salary, it doesn’t count against the cap right? I think that’s what matters, unless our cash to cap philosophy is still in place.

I’ll be the first to say this, I do like Evans, but he is not our #1 guy. If you scan the league for the #1 WR’s you’ll see that they find ways to get the ball.
Case in point Evans was thrown some passes last week that wasn’t the prettiest or the most catchable but some of them he had to make the play. He only mad one big catch that was diminished by a horrendous play call of a screen w/ no TO’s and time running out. Braylon when thrown to made some monster grabs inthat game.
I think we need two tall, atheletic wr’s with speed and bring them in.

I’ll have to disagree that Evans isn’t a No. 1 receiver. He showed he is last season.
The team needs a reliable No. 2 and the extension of Parrish and the contract Reed has insures that the team will only be adding one receiver at the most in the off-season.
Josh Reed is locked up through 2009, Evans is locked up only one more year and now Parrish is in through 2011. Peerless Price should be an easy cut this off-season.

yeah dan, my guess would be that we are sticking by the cash to the cap, no matter how pathetic it seems. the bonus would be prorated over the extent of the contract, but depending on how the numbers work, it looks like about 2.75 per year cap hit. to be honest, i dont think we are going to get close to the cap for a long time. i dont really have a problem with that, but when it comes to not being able to make a key acquisition (despite having the cap room) i do. either way, i understand the need for the bills to be fiscally responsible and as long as they keep bringing talent in through the draft and through key FAs we will be alright.

Despite injuries this year and sticking to cash to the c(r)ap, we have at worst a 7-9 team and that’s impressive. Signing Dockery to a 49-mil deal and Walker to a 25-mil deal wasn’t exactly penny pinching, though you are right that we have tons of cap space.
Hopefully they spend big on Evans’ extension and continue making smart signings. I like our approach rather than the Redskins’ sign every big name and kill our cap situation theory.
I believe the Skins are already way OVER the cap for next year.
