Bills’ Reed a Hall of Fame finalist
Once again, former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed is a finalist to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Reed was selected today as one of 17 finalists for 2008.
He was a finalist in 2007, but didn’t make the cut, while Buffalo teammate Thurman Thomas and former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin got the nod.
Reed owns the all-time Buffalo record for receptions (941), receiving yards (13,095), touchdowns (86) and 100-yard games (36).
He also ranks favorably among the NFL best, sitting third in all-time receptions with 951 (trailing only Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Tim Brown and Marvin Harrison); eighth in yards with 13,198 (trailing Rice, Brown, James Lofton, Harrison, Carter, Issac Bruce and Henry Ellard); and 10th in touchdowns with 87 (trailing Rice, Carter, Terrell Owens, Harrison, Randy Moss, Brown, Steve Largent, Don Hutson and Don Maynard).
Monk and Carter are also among the final 17 this year, which may hurt Reed’s chances. He trails Carter in the major categories, but is ahead of Monk.
The other finalists are Fred Dean, Richard Dent, Marshall Goldberg, Randy Gradishar, Darrell Green, Russ Grimm, Ray Guy, Bob Kuechenberg, Randall McDaniel, Paul Tagliabue, Derrick Thomas, Emmitt Thomas, Andre Tippett and Garry Zimmerman.
Fellow Bills wide receiver and special teams dynamo Steve Tasker was a semifinalist, but did not make it to the final 17 this year. Both Reed and Tasker are already on the Bills Wall of Fame.
The board of selectors will meet in February second to decide on those that will be enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

Let’s go Reed! I hope he makes it in along with Monk. I think Carter is a hall of famer but if he had to wait a year, I’m ok with that.

Reed definitely has the number credentials to get in before Monk, but for whatever reason Monk is usually near the top of best WR discussions.
I can’t say much in comparison, as I was too young to see Monk and I was a kid when Andre Reed was dominating.
