Playoffs?!? It Could be in the Browns Path
After the abortion that took place vs. Pittsburgh during the opening week, who the hell saw this coming? After a thrilling overtime win against Seattle yesterday the Browns are now 5-3 and the more than a few fans are already thinking the p-word without fear that their friends will think they are mentally ill. That word being “playoffs” of course.
Yesterday’s game seemed to have the feeling amongst the home crowd that they believed this franchise has finally turned the corner. Nobody left the game early. Everyone in attendance believed they were going to win. It’s a feeling that hasn’t existed around the lakefront in over a decade and has been long overdue.
By now we’ve all read plenty of pub on Derek Anderson and his amazing turnaround (along with his horseballs) this season. However, another major player in the resurgence of the offense is the addition of the sledgehammer also known as Jamal Lewis. Forgive me for not knowing what J-Lew’s genitals are nicknamed.
Four touchdowns later, the few fans who chose to watch this game over “Super Bowl 41 1/2″ saw first hand just what this guy brings to the offense. He is the first runningback this team has had in the new era that defenses actually have to respect and it has paid off with both Lewis’ production as well as the opportunities he helps create in the passing game.
You think the mention of playoffs is a bit premature? Take a look at the remaining schedule. This week the Brownies have a rematch on the road against the Steelers and follow that with another road trip to Baltimore. Beyond that game the rest of the schedule is loaded with non-playoff bound opponents.
At home: Texans, Bills and 49ers.
On road: Steelers, Ravens, Cardinals, Jets, and Bungals.
Realistically the Browns should win no less than eight games, but could very easily win a few more. Ten is the likely number to make the playoffs and it is suddenly a lil more realistic than some would initially realize. Obviously, the remaining schedule is a bit heavy with road games. However, beyond the Steelers game (who will be on a short week) they are all games the Browns should be very confident in winning with or without a defense.
Regardless, it just feels good to mention that “p-word” without people thinking you are either drunk or in need of therapy.

Dude I am soooo freaking stoked. I only wish we hadn’t given up a first-rounder for Clown Quinn because DA is THE TRUTH!!!
But we need a LOT of help on defense. We have absolutely NO PASS RUSH and it is driving me INSANE to watch the opposing quarterback just stand in the pocket all day and rip us apart. Wimbley is a stud despite his stats, but teams load up on him and double team him on the edge while other guys can’t do squat one-on-one. It’s pathetic!
We could have used next year’s first-rounder on some defensive help. Maybe a big ass nose tackle that can take Ted’s spot. Or somebody who actually excels in a 3-4 unlike Orpheus Roye. Whatever the case is, this team will not compete for a championship unless it gets some kind of pressure on the QB!
Another thought: this offseason, I want to see Savage do two things:
1) Sign Jamal Lewis to a two-year extension.
2) Go after Michael Turner in free agency
This way, the Browns have a Willie Parker/Jerome Bettis type 1-2 punch in the running game. It worked so well for the Steelers, and with this offense and offensive line, we can do it even better than they did. I would like nothing better than to do this, and our offense is taken care of. Signed, sealed, and delivered. We’ll be rolling on O for the next 10 years without looking back.
Also, to the higher-ups at MVN and MVN’s NFL site….why isn’t this site getting pimped more? I’m fucking sick of hearing and reading about the Pats and Colts and all these other teams whose fans are far INFERIOR to Browns fans. Nobody can compare to Browns fans, who have seen their team get shit on and play like total garbage. Last night’s game against Seattle felt like the Super Bowl…it’s only Week 9 of the regular season against an interconference team and you could see the joy and celebration on the fans’ faces. No team deserves a Super Bowl more than the Browns (well, maybe the Lions, but my partiality tells me it’s still the Browns).
If you have to get more writers in here, MVN, then do that (I’m not volunteering, btw). Michael is doing an excellent job but he’s like LeBron right now: not much help around him. The Browns deserve better.

Can’t wait to see how we stack up against the Steelers at Heinz Field.

thanks for the love Amar.
defensive line is absolutely the #1 priority next year. it is sickening to watch this bunch try to play up front. they make everyone else’s job so much harder to do on D.

Should be a good one on Sunday. I don’t see another blowout like week one.

If the Browns end up any where in the lower half of the draft (which would then be the slot for Dallas’ pick), Brady Quinn is a bargin. There isn’t a better QB in this draft than him.
