Better Know A Draft Pick… Beau Bell
Name: James “Beau” Beaumont Bell
Position: Outside Linebacker
School: UNLV
Awards/Accolades: Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and third-team mid-season All-American his senior year
2007 season:126 tackles, five forced fumbles, 9.5 tackles for loss, four INTs, one touchdown
Strengths: Great at stopping the run and can deliver the big hit. Goes balls-out every minute of every game.
Weaknesses: Missed half of his junior season due to an ankle injury, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue any more. This isn’t horse racing, so an ankle injury doesn’t mean the end of his career. Or death for that matter.
How he projects with the Browns: The Browns are under a new defensive coordinator in Mel Tucker this season, so Bell is likely going to have the opportunity to challenge for a starting spot. At the very least, he’ll start on special teams. Andre Davis is only getting older, and being that the Browns ranked 27th in the NFL at stopping the run last year and 30th in overall defense, Bell could be a great addition to help fix that. Savage seems to be obsessed with him, which is a good sign. After all, he did craft Baltimore’s defense back in the day.
