BREAKING NEWS: Bucs Return Kick for TD for First Time In Franchise History!

When I saw it scrolling on the sports ticker, I spit out my drink, screamed “Oh my God,” rubbed my eyes, and hit rewind on the DVR over and over again. When I finally hit play, I asked my mother to pinch me several times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. It seemed too good to be true. This is something the Bucs hadn’t done in their 31-year history; why would they do it today? Today is truly a great day to be a Bucs fan.

I predicted earlier this year that this was the year for the Bucs to end their futility. But that was when Mark Jones was returning kicks. I thought he would be the one to do it. When he went out for the season with an injury, I all but gave up hope. But then on November 1, the Bucs signed practice squad wide receiver Michael Spurlock. I never would have guessed he would be our guy.

Today is a truly monumental day. Not only did this happen, but the Bucs clinched their division for the third time in six years. Up to today, the Bucs kickoff return yardage equaled roughly 21 miles. 1,865 returns, and no touchdowns. That is why today was so special, and why it took so long for me to fully believe it. I’m still anticipating waking up and realizing this was all a dream. I’ve smiled every time I’ve seen the replay, or seen the stats. I’m proud of myself for predicting it, but damnit, I’m more proud of this team for doing it. The 31-year old curse is over. The Bucs of old and new can rest easy. Me? I’m still pinching myself.
