Cardinals vs 49ers preview
This week the Arizona Cardinals will go up against the struggling San Francisco 49ers. San Fran has lost their last 8 games and have not scored a touchdown in 11 quarters. Clearly this should be an easy win for Arizona but we never know. Against the Panthers it seemed like the Cards couldn’t lose but an injury to Kurt Warner ended that gimme win.
For the first time since 1998 the Cardinals have a chance to go over 500 12 weeks into the season. My dream is coming true, all I asked for at the begging of this year was hope. I wanted Arizona to go into the last few games of the season saying we have a chance to make it to the playoffs. It looks like we’ll be able to say that after this week. Now the next step is actually making it to the playoffs.
I know I’m getting a little ahead of myself because on any given week any team can win in the NFL. So the Cards can’t look past the 49ers who they lost to on MNF in the season opener. Since the heartbreaking lost to San Fran many things have changed, mostly injuries taking tolls on both teams. Trent Dilfer will be the quarterback for the 49ers in place of Alex Smith and Kurt Warner is now the Cardinals QB in place of Matt Leinart. That switch alone should give the Cardinals a much bigger edge going into this weeks game. The 49ers have only one weapon on offense in Frank Gore, and the Cards have many in Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Edgerrin James, and Kurt Warner. As far as the defense goes both teams are playing well on that side of the ball. If Arizona can protect the ball and not allow the 49er defense to score, it should be a fairly easy win for the Cards.
The Cardinals have been playing good football lately and the 49ers are just terrible right now. I have to believe this will be an easy win for the Cards that will put them in a tie for the wild card in the NFC. So I’m predicting a win here, a lose for the Cards will be potentially season ending, but this is a different year and I don’t think that’s going to happen.
