Chargers Release Eric Parker
In a non-surprise, the San Diego Chargers have released veteran wide receiver Eric Parker. Parker is still hampered by a toe injury that occurred last August and missed all of 2007. With the Chargers already set in the starting lineup with Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson and with Legedu Naanee, Kassim Osgood, Malcolm Floyd and Buster Davis providing solid back-up, Eric became a victim of numbers.
Parker was the once the lone bright spot in the receiving corps and performed admirably while developing a reputation as perhaps the Chargers hardest working player. It is unfortunate that for some Bolt fans, their lasting image of Parker will be the muffed punt versus the Patriots. As such, I would like to once more point out that the missed final field goal try was set up by a Parker catch and that there is no way the Chargers would have even been in the playoffs without his contributions.
Parker, an undrafted free agent in 2002, ended up playing 62 games in lightning bolts, 40 of them as a starter. He caught 187 passes for 2,586 yards and 11 touchdowns. His contributions far outweighed much more highly regarded prospects and free agent acquisitions. Eric Parker will catch on with some other team, where he will immediately contribute with the example of his work ethic and through his veteran leadership, even while his injury is healing.
Thank you for everything Eric… now, please sign with an NFC team, okay?
