Analysis of Brodie Croyle Proves Ross Tucker Is An Idiot

Ross Tucker recently did an analysis on which player for each team has to produce early in the 2008 season.  Predictably, Tucker chose Chiefs’ quarterback Brodie Croyle, saying that Croyle is the “prototypical player when identifying guys that need to produce early or else.”

Fair enough - it’s been well documented that Croyle has struggled.  It’s been documented ad nauseum that Croyle has to do well or the Chiefs are looking at another abysmal year.  But then Tucker dropped this little beauty:

“Croyle probably has four games, if that, to show some progress or get a win under his belt before the Chiefs will see what Tyler Thigpen can do.”

I’m sorry?  Tyler Thigpen?  The same guy who couldn’t beat out Drew Henson or Brooks Bollinger for a backup spot in Minnesota?  The 7th-round draft pick that is coming off an MCL tear?  That Tyler Thigpen?

Look - I’m not saying Croyle is definitely the answer at quarterback.  Honestly, I don’t believe he’s gotten a fair shot to succeed in the NFL.  2008 is his year to make it, or he needs to prepare for a long, illustrious career of wearing his cap backward and holding a clipboard (we should all be so lucky).

But to insinuate that Tyler Thigpen is going to challenge Croyle for the starting gig is ludicrous.  Unless injuries play a role, the words “Tyler Thigpen” and “Chiefs starting quarterback” should never be used in the same sentence, unless the words “will never be the” is in between them.

I guess that’s what SI.com gets for hiring someone who bounced around the league on five teams for seven years - an uninformed, nearly moronic opinion.  Thanks for playing Ross.

Good call, Ryan. It helps to do a little research before opening your mouth.

Anyone that knows the Chiefs at all knows that Herm is going to let the team sink or swim with Croyle this year. Croyle is going to get every opportunity this year to prove whether he deserves the starting spot or not. “Four games, if that”? And Thigpen?

    This just in:

Tucker has 2 more articles, if that, to prove he’s not a complete moron. If not, he may be cut and we’ll see what his assistant can do.

That guys comments about Croyle is just asinine. I honestly wish these guys wouldnt even bother talking about the Chiefs if they have no clue whats going on.

I like Thigpen as a developmental guy, but come on, they’re dreaming if they think hes going to be taking over and do better than Brodie.

I think you are selling Thigpen short. He was a guy that Minnesota was trying to sneak onto their practice squad. They had no room for a very raw QB on their 53 man roster. Thigpen’s scouting reports before the 2007 draft had him listed at a strong armed, mobile QB who could be a major sleeper. More than one source has reported that Thigpen has looked very good this offseason and you have to wonder if Damon Huard will even make the team, given how few reps hes getting in camp.

Now I do think that Croyle is actually underrated considering the line he played behind last year, but he’s very brittle. I put the odds that Thigpen starts at least a handful of games for us at better than 80%.

I saw the Bentley was released today by the Browns. I know Rudy is our center right now but even with Bentley’s injuries I think he would be worth a shot at center. He is only 28.

Bentley is worth a look - for the right price. I’m not 100% he could pass a physical, though the Browns claimed he passed their test with no difficulty.

If he took a veteran’s minimum with a lot of incentives and escalators, then why not bring in a former Pro Bowler who is looking for a fresh start?

Someone, though, will be willing to dole out guaranteed money for multiple years…which could be a good investment, but I honestly believe otherwise.

Thigpen has potential, but he played pee wee league competition in college and he is very short for the average NFL qb. It would take a very poor showing for Croyle to lose his job.

Thigpen has looked terrible in the offseason practice sessions.

I guess there in a slight chance that he actually improves with pads on but I’m going to go ahead and doubt it.

“You guys have no clue what your saying you just talk to talk ”

There are definitely homer Chiefs fans but there are way more Raiders fans that don’t know anything about football. You just don’t hear from them because it requires internet access.

Croyle is MAYBE an inch taller than Thigpen but Tyler outweighs him by at least 20 pounds.

You say Raider fans dont know about football… Dude everytime ive tryed to talk to you seriously about football you find your way out of it with some retarded jokes like J.R cant tie his shoe or he’s 400lbs… You just talk because you have a mouth and because you like to hear yourself…

    GO RAIDERS!!!

The thing that everyone seems to be forgetting is that the Chiefs have a completely new offensive system. Chan Gailey has proven himself over the years that his teams can rush the football VERY effectively. I personally blame most of what happened last year on Mike Solari. The play calling was horrendous. Gailey has never had a season where his offenses were so inneffective @ running the ball. Also, everything from training camp shows that the Chiefs are going to use alot more bootlegs, movement of the pocket, and audibles which will definitely play more to Croyles strengths. LJ is going to be back at full speed this season with younger, more athletic o-line & that folks is going to equate to much better numbers from Brodie Croyle.
There was a great article on the Chiefs website awhile back that showed numbers from his first 6 starts vs those of Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and Big Ben. His numbers were actually better than either of the Mannings & he was playing in an atrocious system w/no o-line. in my humble opinion, I think Croyle is going to be a pretty good QB over the course of the next couple of seasons & the Chiefs are well on their way towards building a championship caliber football team.
By the way.. other than San Diego, the rest of the AFC west sucks & that includes Denver. The Chiefs , even in a rebuilding stage still have a chance to finish second place in the division this year because everyone else is going through the same thing we are only they are trying to do it signing washed up veterans. Go Chiefs

I agree with you, chiefs Fan 1970. Croyle is likely to make a lot of people eat crow. Even though the QB is supposed to be the general, you can’t win if you don’t have the soldiers. So, everyone should stop looking at his numbers and saying see, see. It’s so easy to complain, moan and groan when you are a back seat driver.

Herm Edwards knows what he is doing, and he is not going to hand over the Kansas City Chiefs reigns to just any QB. How about , just sit back and keep your mouth shut about Brodie Croyle and watch this season. I am afraid there is going to be a lot of people eating crow when it comes to Brodie Croyle!!!
