Time For Another Chiefs Mailbag
Since it’s almost time for training camp (10 days), and Chiefs fans are STARVING for any information regarding their favorite team, it’s time to open up the email inbox and see what you have to say.
Should the Chiefs try to sign Brett Favre?
- Mike, Kansas City, MO
RB:Favre came out of retirement? Really? I didn’t see anything on the news about that.
Seriously - wow. I can’t imagine the circle-jerk that ESPN must have had when this “breaking news story” leaked out last week. This is a dull, dull time for sports coverage, as it is basically baseball, and it’s rumored that the WNBA is still around. That’s it.
So to have one of the most popular football players announce he wants to come back, and the ensuing drama that has resulted because of it - this must be a wet dream come true for the people at the Mouse.
Check out some of the most popular websites, too. On CBSSports.com, there are seven NFL stories. Five are about Favre. ESPN has four separate articles, plus a poll question regarding the popular quarterback. It’s utterly ridiculous.
And now, we have to deal with the other 31 teams in the NFL announcing they are or are not interested in signing Favre. Training camp can’t get here fast enough.
As for the Chiefs and what they should do? Nothing. Stay away from the circus. Favre’s better than Brodie Croyle, but we don’t need the distraction. I didn’t want Koren Robinson, for God’s sake. Can you imagine what Favre would do to this town? It would be anarchy.
Who will be our staring cornerbacks on Opening Day?
- William, Overland Park, KS
RB: If I were either Pat Surtain, Brandon Flowers or Brandon Carr, I would be calling “Not It!” right now. There are several scenarios that I would like to avoid for the Chiefs this season. Playing New England at home after losing the Super Bowl and their chance for an undefeated season is pretty much the perfect storm of “Oh *#!@” for the Chiefs. Unfortunately, we still have to play the game - so Surtain and Flowers get the nod. Carr will see plenty of action, though.
I have the #2 pick in a 12-man fantasy football league. Who do I take?
- Tim, Kansas City
RB: Depending on your scoring system (my favorite cop-out of all time), I would say either Westbrook, Brady or Steven Jackson. Yes - I left out Adrian Peterson on purpose. Remember a couple of years ago, when Reggie Bush was taken #2 overall in about 99% of fantasy drafts, and then he promptly murdered every owner’s chances at winning? Get ready for a repeat performance.
When are Glen Dorsey and Brendan Albert getting signed?
- Seth, Liberty, MO
RB: Your guess is as good as mine. I would venture that the signings will start coming hot and heavy between today (I think 12 picks have signed this morning alone across the NFL) and through next Friday. Someone asked me what I think the contracts will look like - and these are just total guesses, but:
Dorsey - 6 years, $54 million - $25 million guaranteed
Albert - 5 years, $18 million - $7 million guaranteed
These were calculated off of the top picks that have signed this year, and the #5 and #15 picks from the 2007 draft. Remember - I’m a math moron, so I am probably way, way off.
If you could have one person removed from television for the rest of your life, who would it be?
- Maggie, Dallas, TX
Wow - talk about a loaded question. I really had to think about this one. There are so many potential candidates.
Since CBS did me a favor and removed Billy Packer, that eliminates someone who probably would’ve been in my top 3. I think my answer would have to be this guy. Man, I hate that Bowflex commercial. I just want to punch him in the face.
