Carl Peterson Waits Until The Last Minute - But He’s Getting The Job Done
One night after 2nd-round draft pick Brandon Flowers signed, Carl Peterson got 1st-round pick Branden Albert into camp on time as well. Albert will travel with the team to River Falls, WI for training camp, and this should make all Chiefs fans sigh with relief.
(Am I just now noticing that the Chiefs drafted three players named “Brandon/Branden”? Shows how much I’ve been paying attention.)
Albert is not only learning a new position, he’s learning the most crucial offensive line spot a team has: left tackle. The fact he will have all of training camp to digest the team’s playbook, get into shape, and bond with his teammates is a huge plus in his (and the team’s) favor.
The 800-pound elephant in the room is still 1st-round pick Glen Dorsey, who is the highest draft pick yet to sign. Rumor has it that Dorsey is waiting for some of the other top 10 picks to sign their contracts, or at the very least have #6 overall pick Vernon Gholston agree to a deal. I wouldn’t expect Dorsey into camp until probably this time next week at the earliest. However, Carl Peterson surprised me today with the signing of Albert - maybe he’ll surprise me with Dorsey.
