Early look at Colts’ 2008 opponents
As I was thinking of something to write about today, I realized that I hadn’t really taken a look at the Colts’ 2008 schedule.
Along with the usual “home and home” series with divisional rivals Tennessee, Jacksonville, and Houston, the Colts will take on the NFC North. That means they’ll play the Bears, Lions, Vikings, and Packers. I always enjoy the match-ups against the NFC opponents because, as a Colts fan, I don’t get to see the Horseshoes play those teams very often. It’s kind of exciting to see how the teams handle one another. Two of the NFC North games will be at home (Detroit and Chicago); the other two will be on the road (Green Bay and Minnesota).
It’s Indy’s turn in the rotation to play the AFC North. The Colts will host Cincinnati and Baltimore; they’ll travel to Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Wow…road trips to Green Bay, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh? Depending on the dates of the games, the Colts may actually have to deal with some real weather for once!
The Colts round out their schedule with the AFC divisional winners. New England will come to Indianapolis for the second year in a row. This time, however, the RCA Dome will be a not-so-distant memory as the Colts/Patriots rivalry comes to Lucas Oil Stadium for the first time. The remaining 2008 opponent that I haven’t mentioned is San Diego out of the AFC West. I’m really excited about that one, because the Colts have proven their complete mastery over the Chargers time and time again during the past few seasons (cough, cough).
I’d love to do a really, really early game-by-game preview. I’ll think about that once we get a little closer to the season. Meantime, I’ll be waiting with great anticipation for the preseason schedule. Yes…I’m so football-starved that I actually want to know what the preseason schedule is going to look like. I think that’s the first sign that I need some professional help. At least I can sleep soundly knowing that Indy will be in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, against the Washington Redskins (mark your calendar for August 3).
