BREAKING NEWS: Ricky Williams has torn chest muscle, out for the season

And there goes the bargaining chip.

Ricky Williams, coming back to the Dolphins after over a year away from the team, tore a muscle in his chest during Monday Night’s game at the Steelers.  As a result, his 2007 season will consist of all of 6 carries.  He is out for the year.

There is question to whether the play that caused Williams to be hurt was clean.  Williams fumbled on a run up the middle.  Lawrence Timmons went after the ball, stomping on Williams shoulder.  Some who have seen the play have said that it appears Timmons stomped the shoulder with purpose.  As of now, the league hasn’t said anything about the play.

Now it’s even more murky what might happen to Williams after this.  His trade value has gone from little to none.  Do the Dolphins release Williams?  Keep him on as an equally uncertain backup to the now uncertain Ronnie Brown?

As Alex points out, what happens with Ricky Williams may just be up to the NEXT coach of the Miami Dolphins.
