Should the Dolphins trade Jason Taylor?

This week, Jason Taylor stuck one foot in the grave. He signed a contract to be on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. While the rest of his teammates are running sprints, lifting weights, catching, throwing and  to condition themselves for the upcoming season, Taylor will be doing the Soulja Boy, the tango and the mambo. This latest career decision has me thinking: Is his head still in the game? At the end of last season, Taylor dropped hints about retiring and going to the booth. He made the decision to stick around for another year but whenever he got in front of a microphone, it seems as though he forgot he made that commitment, going public with stuff that did not belong in the public. On the field this year, Taylor did not have the kind of heart he had when he won the 2006 Defensive Player of the Year award. He spent most of the first half of the year on his back. Taylor showed signs of what he used to be during the second half, as 0-16 drew nearer and nearer but it was obvious that Taylor was playing for himself instead of playing for the team.

Jason Taylor is no longer comitted to the Miami Dolphins. And if Parcells is ready to part with a guy who gave 110% every game for 12 years, you know he won’t have a problem shipping off a guy with a me first attitude. Heading into free agency, the Dolphins are in good shape. $30 million under with ten spots to fill. Taylor could be dangled in front of Cleveland or Jacksonville for another second round pick. This would give the Phins three second round picks. One early, two late. Some of the names projected to go late in the second round: Kevin Smith, Mario Manningham, Fred Davis, DeJuan Tribble, Roy Schuening, Eric Young, Erin Henderson.

In total rebuilding mode, the Dolphins should give Taylor what he wants: The chance to be a big celebrity with a Super Bowl ready team. “Defending Super Bowl champion” would be a good prefix for Taylor during his first year at ESPN.

your crazy if you think jason taylor isn’t still one of the top defensive ends in the nfl. Who cares how old he is, look at the other number considering he faced double teams most of last year on a horrible rush defense and still managed to have 11 sacks and make the pro bowl with barely no help on that defense. If Miami and Bill Pracells were smart, which I think they are, they would know that taylor has atleast 2 more seasons left in him and to keep him around for leadership for the younger guys coming in. However, if Taylor requested a trade or to be moved to a different team, than I would respect his decision but don’t start throwing around rumors that he should be traded when he is clearly our best defensive player.

Talyor is an hell of a player and the Phins would be crazy to give him up, but since the talk is out thier why not try to get a #1 Talyor, and a #2 and 4 for a first rounder. if i was a team like Bangles i would at least think about it

The only way Jason Taylor should not be on the Dolphins next year is if he doesn’t want to be. Otherwise we should do everything to keep him. Our defense was all mixed up last year because of the coaching staff. He was basically playing a different position, and he still had pretty dang good numbers. He’s a great guy and he should be kept at all reasonable costs. As should Zach, but that’s another story.

As much as I love JT, fins can’t rebuild around him at this stage of his career. Trade him if the offer is right as this may be the last year at this high of value.

    Gotta disagree, my friend.

    Sort of.

I agree that Taylor should be allowed to pursue a ring, especially if we can get a high pick for him.

However, I disagree that DwtS means his mind isn’t in the game. It takes place in the offseason. All he’d be missing, if even these, are voluntary offseason workouts. And you can argue that he’s still technically doing those. Marie Osmond has called DwtS “the best weight loss program ever.” It’s very physically demanding.

Taylor won’t be missing anything by Dancing, and it brings some attention to a team people are starting to forget. And, think of the sack dances we could get next year.

Trading Taylor may be for the best. But his participation in DwtS isn’t a factor.

Taylor is an anchor. Whether for holding the team safely amidst the storm of rebuilding, or one that drags the ship down. I truly believe that will be his call. I hope the Dolphins offer him the opportunity to choose before casting him off for an unknown quantity of an extra draft pick.

Dude, don’t say that Taylor’s head isn’t with the Dolphins. How can you logically say that? If I was playing my butt off with this team last year, I’d be a little burned out too. He deserves to be on a SB team, yes….but so did Marino, Ewing, Barkley, etc….I wouldn’t question his character……Trade him if that’s what he wants, that’s fine……but don’t question him….

THere is no way they should trade Taylor. I honestly think that they will be contending in 3 years if he waits that long. I mean Jimmy Johnson is nowhere near as good as Bill Parcells and he took the cowboys from 1-15 to the playoffs in one year. i dont think they are as far off as it seems. and with the number one pick they get Jake or Chris Long or even better trade it to Dallas for both 1st round picks and Spears who is said to be on the block… not Barber because they if at any position have good running backs in Brown Chatman and Williams i mean there fourth running back is Lorenzo Booker they are loaded there.
