Brown might not be ready for camp
Things are going from good to bad to worse for Ronnie Brown. Before suffering a season ending injury in the Dolphins’ week 7 game against the Patriots, he lead the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 991. Now, after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, the 26 year old running back might not be ready to go full speed at the start of training camp in July even though he is ahead of schedule in the recovery process. Brown is running regularly and lifting weights but he is nowhere close to 100%. Brown tore his ACL when trying to tackle Patriots cornerback Randall Gay after Gay had intercepted a Trent Green pass. It is doubtful that he will participate in many team workouts this offseason. If he does, he will be extremely limited.
The news on the Ricky Williams front is much more encouraging. Williams, who was put on the shelf for the season in his first game back from a year long suspension when he was “accidentally” stepped on by Steelers rookie linebacker, Lawrence Timmons, underwent surgery in the offseason to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Williams is already back at full strength and he’s as ready as ever.
If Brown isn’t ready at the start of camp, Williams will train with the first team offense.
FRIDAY NOTES:
- Brandon Sonnone of Jaguars Journal, MVN’s Jags coverage writes that Jacksonville may be interested in Jason Taylor. If it means another late second round pick for us, I’m all for it.
- Earlier this week, Bill Parcells told the New York Daily News that he expects to hold on to the first pick. When asked if he would use it to draft a quarterback, the Tuna said that it has possibilities.
- ESPN’s Matt Mosley thinks Bill Parcells will take Matt Ryan first overall. Mosley is a former Cowboys beat reporter who knows Parcells, Ireland and Sparano very well.
- Talks of the Bengals dealing Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson are simmering down. Fanball.com is reporting that Ocho Cinco will not be punished for asking the Dolphins to hit him up. 85 is under contract with Cincinnati until 2011. He’s not going anywhere.
