Scouting Report: John David Booty, QB, USC

John David Booty is a player that had very, very big shoes to fill. The senior from the University of Southern California was following in the footsteps of two Heisman trophy winners and starters in the NFL now. Did he fill those shoes? Not as well as they had prior to him, but definitely he did not do a bad job. Booty is a prototypical pocket passer, with decent arm strength and above average accuracy, but leadership ability might be the best asset going for Booty. He can buy himself some time versus the rush, but does not have the foot speed to avoid it by scrambling out of the pocket.

Scouting Report

Pros: He is the son of a coach, so the leadership skills and football IQ are there.

Cons: His frame and size is not what the NFL teams are looking for. Not very good at throwing a deep ball; he is missing the arm and the accuracy on them.

Overall: If he does survive in the NFL he will likely be more of a journeyman than a Pro Bowler.

Say what you want about JD Booty…he’s got game and is a winner. Any team would be blessed to have in on there roster.
