MVN writers mock draft: 14. Chicago Bears - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
NFL
With the fourteenth pick in the MVN writers’ mock draft, the Chicago Bears select Rashard Mendenhall, running back from Illinois.
Mendenhall’s mixture of power and speed this early in the draft is too good to pass up. He is a solid replacement that could easily make up for the fallacies of Cedric Benson, and he is an instant impact player. Other than an offensive lineman, we would rather have nobody else.
Here’s the scouting report on Mendenhall from NFL Draft 101:
Strengths: Hits the hole with fury and in a hurry. Ability to make first tackler miss and break it to the outside. Patient runner.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t have the breakaway speed to scare defensive coordinators. Might have to become more of a power back in the NFL. Product of a system?

He looked pretty fast running away from those USC defenders in the Rose Bowl.
I’m just not real sure that the Chicago GM is ready to dismiss Benson, a number four overall draft pick with a ton of money invested with holes along the offensive the line they haven’t addressed.

We should all know by now that Chicago picks the worst people at all the drafts. This is the logical pick but its the Bears. They are the least logical. Don’t be surprised if they pick up Chad Henne first
