MVN writers mock draft: 22. Dallas Cowboys - RB Felix Jones, Arkansas

NFL

By Patrick Dorsey

With the 22nd pick in the MVN writers’ mock draft, the Dallas Cowboys select running back Felix Jones from Arkansas.

After losing Julius Jones to Seattle in free agency, Jerry Jones has been looking for more depth at running back. Some question as to whether he should be spending so much time on this with holes in the secondary and with their receivers, as they already have a fine back in Marion Barber.

However, Barber could sure use a complement. He’s a big, powerful back who will get beat up. He’d probably be fine being the main guy, but another player alongside him would help with the entire offense and Barber’s physical condition.

That’s where Jones comes in. He’s a perfect fit, being a quick, elusive back, and bringing that homerun ability that Barber does not. I really like him, and although he might not be a starter, he won’t need to be, with Barber there. The two would be a great match, and give Dallas flexibility in their playcalling.

Jones may be a little bit of a reach at number twenty-two. I think he’ll go there mainly because Jerry Jones likes him, being a good fit and also a former Arkansas player. With the two first round receivers off the board, I couldn’t see the Cowboys not picking him here.
