Eagles Eye

Pam Oliver Gate, Playoffs, and more. . .

Well a few quick thoughts. . .

  • All the rage is the Donovan McNabb/Pam Oliver storyline. If you don’t know by now here’s the quote.
    • “Donovan really seems to believe that his days in Philadelphia are numbered. When I spoke with him before the game, I got the impression that Donovan is a little hurt by what he sees as an organization distancing itself from him and an organization that’s overly concerned about the negative fan reaction to him. But Donovan told me point blank: ‘My knee is not an issue. The next place I go, I will win,’ and also that he will keep a smile on his face for as long he’s in an Eagles uniform.”
  • WIP is jumping all over this, McNabb has refuted the report, and quite a few blogs are on it. Pam has fired back that her relationship with Donovan is fractured after being thrown under the bus. This seems terribly blown out of proportion to me. If as the quote states this was just the impression Pam Oliver got should she even have come out stating it or is it good journalism? Just seems like another case of the Philly media needing something to talk about. Non-issue in my opinion.
  • The Minnesota Vikings win tonight over the Chicago Bears has officially closed the door on the playoffs for 2008. How many young guys will be showcased in the final two games of the year? It’s unlikely Kevin Kolb will receive time given the Eagles nature but it would be nice to see some garbage time minutes for the young guy. This is the time Philly has to find out if it has keepers in Tony Hunt, Winston Justice, Max Jean-Gilles among others. I’d like to close out the year with two more wins to get to .500 on the year at the same time.
  • I keep hearing people hoping the Eagles lose out so they can get a better draft position. Honestly I think that’s garbage. There’s gonna be studs at every selection of the draft and it’s up to your SCOUTING to get the job done. Frankly the Birds have been hit or miss and many of their better players have come via late 1st to middle rounds so I’m not worried about losing to get a better pick.

You’re right, Alex, the Donovan “report” is a non-story….everybody in town already knows this is exactly the way Donovan has felt for months. And I hope he continues to play through it and remains an Eagle for 2008. There’s still potential for a lot of smiles on a lot of faces next season if things come together for the Eagles the way I think they can… And as for the rest of 2007: PLAY TO WIN! We need to treat the next 2 games as the first 2 games of 2008. A lot of turnaround years for a lot of playoff teams begin in the mindset created in the final games of the previous season.

must have been a slow news day for Pam Oliver….Donovan has never hidden from the press so why would he be protecting his true feelings at any time on his relationship with the franchise? There never was a “story”, Pam.
