The Countdown Is On!
The Flyers surprising postseason run, a year removed from being the NHL’s worst team, seems to be coming to an end. The Phillies are entering the dog days of summer and Philadelphia fans will start to looking forward to their beloved Eagles. Make no doubt about it win or lose, Philadelphia is a football town and collectively bleeds green. With that being said. . .
It’s just. . .
66 days until rookies and select veterans report to training camp at Lehigh University
84 days until the opening pre-season game in Pittsburgh
90 days until the pre-season home opener against Carolina
114 days until the season opener with the Birds hosting St. Louis
GET EXCITED IT’S JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!

Philadelphia – Much to our chagrin, Philly has been a successful team for a long time with QB Donovan McNabb under center. But what the Eagles’ front office has done to McNabb lately is really a shame. DeSean Jackson? Give this guy some weapons on offense besides Brian Westbrook and we’d be talking rings, not NFC Championship games. McNabb will rebound from his post-ACL surgery year to post solid numbers, but he and the Eagles have missed their chance at a Lombardi Trophy for some time.
As for my G-Men, well I’m Feeling confident!
As the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants( still sounds good, doesn’t it??) wrap up their rookie camp, I look at this team and feel very confident heading into next season.
Now that we know what the team will look like (with the possible exceptions of Michael Strahan and Jeremy Shockey, though I personally expect both to be back), I went over the roster to find any glaring holes. Last season they said we were weak in the secondary; Kenny Phillips, Terrill Thomas and the emergence of Corey Webster and Aaron Ross solve that issue.I like our secondary.
It was said we need a game breaker at receiver to take some pressure off Plexico Burress. I think Mario Manningham fits the bill. Also, I am anxious to see what Steve Smith can do with one year experience under his belt, he was very impressive during the Super Bowl run. Not to mention that Plexico played through injuries all season and figures to come back healthy. I like our receivers.
The rest of the team is very solid. The offensive line will be back in tact and they are clearly one of the best units in the NFL…(although, I would feel better with more depth there). The running game is stacked with Brandon Jacobs, Ahmed Bradshaw, Rueben Droughns and Derrick Ward. We have quality at tight end with Shockey and Kevin Boss. We have a Super Bowl MVP in Eli Manning, and on defense, we still have the leagues best pass rush.
Lets get the season started!

The first NFL Power Polls have been released and the so called “experts” have began to make picks and predictions for next season. These of course are meaningless at this point in time, but are borderline insulting to the team in possession of the Lombardi Trophy. Although the New York Giants go into the 2008 season as the defending Super Bowl champions, they continue to get little or no respect from the media. This should come as no surprise to Giants fans, and could actually be a motivating factor in the long run for the team. Here are a few thoughts I had on the matter.
ESPN.com ranked the Giants the 6th best team in the NFL in their initial poll, behind the Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Cowboys and Jaguars. SI.com’s Peter King ranked the Giants 6th overall as well, with the Chargers and Jags flip flopped.
ESPN.com cites the fact that the GMen have to make up for their losses on the defensive side of the ball (Kawika Mitchell, Gibril Wilson) and the decision Michael Strahan needs to make about his future as the reason the Giants are ranked so low for a defending champion.
Many members of the media think the Giants were a middle of the road football team last season that “got hot at the right time.” Still others think that Eli Manning’s playoff performance was a fluke and he will regress going into the 2008 season.
Any Giants fan who has followed the team in the media over the past few years saw this coming from a mile away.
The fact that the media darling Dallas Cowboys, a team that has proven nothing over the past few seasons, is ranked ahead of the Giants is laughable. This is a team we knocked out of the playoffs and made their diva wide receiver cry like a baby. They bring courtroom superstars Pac-Man Jones and Tank Johnson into a locker room already crowded with a lot of problem players. Their quarterback has struggled mightily in the playoffs, where he has two losses to zero wins. Their head coach is looking over his shoulder at future head man Jason Garrett. They have issues all over the field and haven’t won a playoff game in 12 years, yet they are ranked ahead of the defending champions. They go into the season as the favorites to win the NFC East and to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
The Giants are clearly a more talented team going into this season than they were at this point last season. Eli Manning has a Super Bowl ring and his confidence is strong for the first time in his career. He is surrounded by a talented group of playmakers. Burress, Toomer, Smith, Manningham, Moss, Tyree, Shockey, Boss, Jacobs, Ward, Bradshaw. Not many quarterbacks in the league have sets of weapons and multiple offensive options like Manning does this season.
I also think the Giants defense will be as nasty as ever this coming season, especially if Michael Strahan returns. All this defense lost this offseason were two solid, but unspectacular players, who left for large contracts (Wilson and Mitchell). I think they were both overpaid, and the Giants have players who can step right in and fill the void they left behind. The GMen will once again have the most fearsome pass rush in the entire NFL, and a talented young secondary who can capitalize off the mistakes the pass rush forces.
I have always believed in the saying “To be the best, you have to beat the best”. The Giants beat the three NFC Divisional winners on the road in the playoffs last season and were underdogs in each game. They beat the best regular season team in NFL history, the undefeated Patriots, in the Super Bowl. They are the champions, and will be all of next season. They will use their critics as motivation in 2008.
Members of the Giants have already taken notice of the lack of respect by the media. Center Shaun O’Hara told espn.com “I’m kinda done celebrating the Super Bowl. I’ll save my Super Bowl flashbacks for several years from now when I am sitting on my porch drinking moonshine.” Tom Coughlin has began to hand out shirts that say “It’s a whole new season” on them. Jerry Reese thinks that the media calling the Giants Super Bowl win a ”Fairytale” victory will give the team a chip on their shoulder next season. David Diehl says of the media rankings, “A lot of people picked us to finish dead last in the NFC East last season. This is really nothing new to us. We don’t view it as a sign of disrespect. Nobody picked us in the playoffs or the Super Bowl except for Giants fans anyway.”
In the NFL, teams play better football when they have something to prove, or have a chip on their shoulder. I am glad the Giants still have their critics, because they can use this as a motivating factor during the 2008 season. Go ahead and say the Giants won’t be able to repeat, go ahead and pick Dallas to win the division, call the 2007 Super Bowl a fluke. This is going to be a confident football team next season, a team who knows that they are dangerous and what they are capable of doing. The Giants have the rings, and I guarantee they are not going to step aside and let anyone take them without a fight.
Go Giants, the GGGGGGGGGGGGGG-Men!!!!!!!

One thing you have to say about the Gmen - this year when Eli throws his 4th INT for a TD and has that “who took away my PS3?” look, you’ll know who to blame - Ahmad “I steal PS3s” Bradshaw. Maybe you can look to your pal Manningham “The Criminal Liar” as well.
And while we are predicting everything rosy. How is this - Jackson is the new D. Hester. Also, he becomes the “good” Steven Smith, you know, the one in Carolina, the one with more than 5 games of quality play. Combined with the speed of BWest and Curtis, the Gmen D can’t catch them, and lose to the Eagles twice. TWICE! Nice one and done SB, so sorry you’ll suck this year.

At least is should be interesting watching Shockey whine and cry while not living up to his potential, Manningham getting suspended for drugs, Bradshaw getting suspended for stealing Eli’s PS3 (eli probably meant to lend it to Jacobs, but he has problems finding the right guy, as we all know) and Coughlin’s head exploding as the criminals in “Dallas North East” show their true colors.

Well, the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants still get no respect around the country. What am I talking about? Well, lets see…
First, the very day after the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Las Vegas odds makers came out with their favorites to win it all next year. The favorite was the New England Patriots…..sorry, did I miss something, didn’t the Giants just smack them around the day before?? Not only that, the New York Giants were actually listed as number seven overall.
Second, numerous publications and prognosticators felt the New York Giants were not even good enough to win the NFC East division. Of course, how could the Giants possibly ever beat the Dallas Cowboys??
Just the other day, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested the Giants would not even make the NFL Playoffs next season.
Am I angry at this lack of respect? Hell no! Actually, I love it. One of the things that Tom Coughlin was able to use, quite successfully last season with his Giants, was the lack of respect, us against the world, nobody believes in us mind set .
It takes a certain attitude to win ten straight road games. I believe the New York Giants LOVE the underdog with something to prove role. They clearly play it well. It looks as if, even though the Giants are defending Super Bowl Champs, they will get to play that role again.
I love the fact that we are underdogs again. The team clearly enjoys that role.I talk to people all the time who basically think, as someone said to me the other day, “the Giants are a cute story”.That is the perception out there and I hope the Giants players are very well aware of it, as it sounds like they are. A talented, Championship caliber team w/ a chip on it’s shoulder can be a dangerous thing!
Go Giants, The Geeeeeeeeeeee-Men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryan the giants are in the top10 teams in the NFL and if not in the Top5. yes i am a giant fan but think of it, what teams have a better team than the giants on paper. Pats-Cowboys-Chargers thats it
i will not say the Colts-Buccs-or the Packs
becasue Colts have a good D but not as good as the giants and thier Offense is only powered by one person. Harrison is nearing the end and Wayne can do it on his own.
and the packers just becasue they have to many ????? surronding them thats y thier not as good as the giants.
if thier is any other team you think is better than the giants i can state a very strong case why thier not. so not to put the giants in the top 5 is insulting and showing little respect to the Champs.
look at the colt when they won they lost like 5 starters and still were ranked #1 so what does that tell you

I can’t wait for the defense of the crown to start. The more I hear that we got lucky, we’re really not that good, I love it. Just adding fuel to the fire baby. Go Blue!!!
I’ve noticed a trend over the last few years of Superbowl winning QBs having excellent seasons afterwards; aside from “Mr. Fast and Furious” Big Ben. P. Manning and T. Brady both had career years after winning the big game and I think with all the new found weapons on offense, Eli is in for a big year also. Fantasy football players take heed, Easy-E will slide based on past failures and doubters. If he’s there after the 4th round - take him as your #1 QB.
And if, (knock on wood) if the G-Men can stay healthy like last year…look out ya!
The Giants WILL TAKE US TO SB XLIII
The Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man i can’t wait, our goaline package should be unstoppable now. Two TEs (Boss & Shock), Hedge and Jacobs in the backfield with Plax out wide - How do you defend that? You gotta double Plax with a safety or the fade will kill you. Everybody else has to stay in the box to help stop BJ. That leaves both TEs wide open for play action. If Shock can play the decoy sometimes, Boss can block down, then release for a 1-on-1 jumpball against a smaller CB. Champ Bailey couldn’t even stop that.

Giants 3 SB wins to Eagles Z-E-R-O!
June 2nd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Hmm i did not make that 3rd comment. Someone must be impersonating me ^^. Anyways I think the giants are a better team then the cowboys though I think the colts are a better team then both of them. I also think that the Eagles are the best team in the NFC east without any injuries. I think the pats suck as well without their “tapes.”
Prediction: Eagles win NFC east and Giants take the wild card. Eagles finish with a 12-4 record while the Giants finish with a 10-6 record. The cowboys end up in 3rd with an 8-8 record while the redskins are in last with a 5-11 record.
Eagles vs colts in the superbowl I say.

And when it’s all said & done…i still Believe, it will be Eli -vs- Peyton in SuperBowl 43!!!!!!!
NY.Giants ain’t done just yet, or no time soon!
You know what they say…as soon a you get that first taste of Victory, you want more!
It’s like a PittBull when he get’s that first taste of (Blood)…
It was said we need a game breaker at receiver to take some pressure off Plexico Burress. I think Mario Manningham fits the bill. NY.Giants are way better then ya Frankford Yellow Jackets, my Bad…
i’m sorry..ah, no i’m not, better then ya Eagles!
What Eagles draft have got ya a SUPERBOWL Ring?????
None!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NY.GIANTS- SUPERBOWL WORLD CHAMPIONS!
PHILLY Cheesesteaks Eagles…
World CHUMPS!!!!!!!!!!!
Dam it feel’s good to be a Giants fan!
Oh yeah…and the Giants SB win set the Eagles fans insecurity back 10 years.
I guess I would be pretty depressed if during this decade my team won the division 5 times so far and still had the big goose egg next to SB titles. Considering the team that beat them in their only SB appearance during the last 25+ years was the team that the Giants beat in an all time classic game to capture their 3rd title makes it worse.
Yep!!!!
The NY.Giants…they went through everybody livin’ room, all the way to their kitchen, and brought back a 5 pound bag of SUGAR.
SUGAR????
Cause the 11 straight wins on the road was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLUS…Eagles sweep.
NY.Giants Repeat on SuperBowl 43!
the GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG-Men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
