Giants FA Updates

Don’t hold your breath guys, no big news so far today. I have a few tidbits for you guys though:

- The Dolphins are likely to release kicker Olindo Mare by next week. Mare will likely be signing with the Giants, Saints, or Falcons, with the Giants being the favorite according to his agent (Rosenhaus).

- The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Matt Lehr’s agent has made the Giants a counteroffer to their original proposal.

- From what I hear, Jonathon Vilma is not on the trading block at this point, contrary to some reports. Even if he was, the Giants seem set on drafting a linebacker to play alongside Wilkinson and Pierce.

- The Giants aren’t interested in much of what’s left on the market. Any moves in free agency from here on out will likely be minor ones, with Ian Scott being the biggest name on their list. Cato June is a longshot at best. They are hoping to get something out of the next wave of cuts in the first week of April.

- Fullback Vonta Leach did meet with the Giants yesterday. No word of whether he was offered a contract or not.

Update:

Kevin Curtis has signed with the Eagles.

    Silent H,

In addition to the two QBs the Giants worked out yesterday (?), they had a private workout this afternoon with Toby Korrodi, QB, Central Missouri State, 6-3 1/2, 234, ran a 5.37-40. No word on how he looked. He was at the combine.

Yesterday, the Giants had a private workout with CB Usama Young, Kent State, OH. He’s 5-11, 196, ran 4.40-4.51 depending on your source. He’s the 19th ranked CB in one draft book. He’s also worked out for the Patriots, Bears, Eagles and Jets.

So apparently this update announcement that never happened was rumored to be about Ian Scott but there was a set back, huh? I hope it works out because he fits the mold of what JR is looking for. He’s young. Above average and growing skills. He would be a great addition. I just hope it works out. Any whispers about any of the lower-level FA’s we’re eyeing?

Any word on whats going on with WR Curtis?

Lets hope they are serious about Olindo Mare.
I saw an interview today on NFL Network with Jonathon Vilma. The rumors had started about the Redskins having interest in trading for him. He confirmed he is unware of any trades and it is unlikely. I am still hoping for Ian Scott to sign. Those QB’s they are working out seem to be players for the practice squad.

Damnit, I was hoping Curtis would go anywhere but the Eagles. He’s just the type of WR that could really screw us over:(

giantthinker - I have had so many different things told to me about Scott that I don’t even want to say anything until I get something that can be confirmed by multiple sources. Apparently his agent has convinced him that what him and the Giants had in place wasn’t good enough. Some of the other names I’ve heard linked to the Giants are Ike Reese and Aubrayo Franklin. I will update you guys once I have more info on the FAs.

DavidR - Unfortunately, the Giants are on the outside looking in with Curtis as of right now. The problem? Not the contract, and not the coaches - Curtis actually really likes Coughlin. The problem is Amani Toomer. Curtis wants to start, but as of right now the #2 reciever spot is Amani’s job to lose. Curtis doesn’t want to be the third guy again, but he really likes the Giants. He’s having a tough time making the decision, although the Vikings have a guaranteed starting spot for him.

Frank, thanks again for the additional QB updates. I’d love to see some young blood with size, hunger and energy come in behind Eli…..or even behind the “hefty-lefty” at first.

Also, now that Curtis is signed to the Phili Cheese-Steaks, what are we going to do about WR depth? Draft? The Patriots signed every other FA of interest, no?

    Big Blue will overcome.

    UPDATE
    Kevin Curtis is an eagle.

  9. Hazem Kiswani says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

Frank - They also worked out Richard Bartel, QB from Tarleton State. They seem set on taking a backup QB in the late rounds.

I have no clue what Reese is doing. They need a vet backup.

  10. Silent - H says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:23 pm

Hazem, why not bring in a talented young QB instead of a vet? Doesn’t that give us a better chance to develop someone new along side of Eli rather than relying on a “Drew Bledsoe” or some other crusty old dude to come in and throw interceptions and just be……..old?
Also, a TALENTED young QB is potentially more motivating to Eli from a competition standpoint. An old vet QB doesn’t necessarily do that. Plus, who’s out there that we’d even CONSIDER?

  11. Kyle says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:24 pm

No worries there. The Eagles are again going into a season at wide receiver with a #2 playing the #1 (Reggie Brown), a #3 playing the #2 (Kevin Curtis), and a #4 playing the #3 (Hank Baskett).

  12. Peter says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

Hazem - Do you know what Kevin Curtis’s contract is?

Aubrayo Franklin had signed with the 49ers on March 3rd.

  13. Sean Portnoy says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

    that’s funny, because the giants have a #0 playing the #2, #3, #4…

  14. Steve says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

Of all the teams who were in the mix he had to sign with the Eagles??? Ohhh great, now I have to hear it from my brother in law who is an Eagles Fan.

Adam Schefter is reporting it’s a six-year, $32 million deal that includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money. That’s alot for a #2-#3 WR!

  15. Frank E. Kurczewski says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:41 pm

In addition to the Eagles getting Kevin Curtis, Danny Snyder is reportedly trying to get the #1 pick from the Raiders so he can move up to draft JeMarcus Russell.

  16. Kyle says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:44 pm

    Sean:
What? Amani Toomer (yes - he still exists) is a #2 playing the #2 spot. Behind him, Sinorice Moss is an unknown quantity at this point, since he missed what amounted to the entire year due to a quadriceps injury. Moss is either a #3 or a #4 playing the #3 spot; we still have no idea what we have in him.

Pessimism is fine, but maintain your grounding in reality when practicing it.

  17. Billy says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:45 pm

Personally I think Russell will be a total bust. And I’ve heard other rumors that Snyder isn’t trying to move up to get him, but possibly someone else (aka - Calvin Johnson).

  18. gianthinker says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:45 pm

Man! Curtis could have gone to any of the other teams wanting him but he chose the Eagles?!?! Damn! I hate when the Eagles get players. They’re tough enough without players let alone when they have them.

  19. Luzz says:

I don’t understand the need need for a WR in the draft or paying money to in FA. Here’s how I see it.

    1) Buress - Although he’s a terd, it’s hard to argue the fact the he is a game changer. He’s 6′6 with outstanding hands. We’ve never had anything like him before.
    2) Toomer - Although long in the tooth, he’s still a starter on most other teams in the NFC.
    3) Moss - Why wouldn’t we give him a thorough chance since we give up a shit load for him in last year’s draft.
    4) take your pick between Tyree, Jennings, Mix or any other FA they might pick up that doesn’t cost anything. Remember a 4th WR is a total luxury. Only Detroit has 1st rounders at WR roaming in the pasture and look how good it’s done them.

Combine our WR’s with Shockey and we have more targets than poor Eli can manage to complete a pass to. We have bigger holes on the other side of the ball to fill than WR in my opinion.

  20. Dan S says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:45 pm

I would like to see them sign Leach. He could help the run game with his power and tire out the linebackers.

I think Mare would be good to have but only if he is cheap. If he wants more then what Feely was offered then just give the rookie a chance.

It would be nice to sign Ian Scott because then we don’t have to use a pick on the defensive line.

I don’t care about Curtis signing with Philly because I don’t think he is that good anyways and he was not better then Stallworth.

  21. Krow says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Curtis an Eagle… what an incredible setback. And we’re sitting here with a 32 year old starter coming off a blown leg. Looks like we’re cooking a draft pick on a WR. One less LB or CB. I’m bummed.

  22. Sean Portnoy says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:49 pm

I’ll gladly take Curtis over Toomer at this point in their respective careers. Baskett has shown more than Moss did last year. You could call Jeremy Bloom an unknown quantity, too, though I can’t imagine he’d crack the top four receivers for the Eagles at this point. They’re also high on Jason Avant, though he’s a pretty similar receiver to Baskett.

I’d rather have Burress than Brown, yes, but I’d rather have the Eagles’ remaining receivers over the Giants’ at this point.

  23. Hazem Kiswani says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:50 pm

Silent-H - The Giants are looking at guys that will go in rounds 5-7. These guys are absolutely NO threat to Eli this year or the year after that, they are only a threat to Jared Lorenzen. If Eli goes down, and Lorenzen or a rookie QB has to step in, you can close the book on the season. Tim Rattay would be a great addition to this team as an insurance policy, and I’m sure that would put more pressure on Eli because coaches would be more willing to bench Eli for Rattay than they would a late round rookie QB.

Peter - No word on Curtis’ contract just yet, should have that soon.

  24. Dan S says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:50 pm

    Hazem:

I believe Aubrayo Franklin has a contract with the 49ers. So I guess you can add him to the list of players that were looked at but not signed by Reese.

  25. gianthinker says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:54 pm

Hazem/Dan–I was thinking about this Ian Scott deal and if it doesnt work out I have an idea. During the offseason we took a look or at least monitored many of the Indy FA’s. We watched Rhodes, June and even Harper at one point or another so far during free agency. I would like us to keep our doors open to another one of their guys. At 6′3″, 285 LBS., DT Montae Reagor could be a nice addition to our DT depth. He could fill that role we are trying to sign Scott for and rotate with Robbins and Cofield. Reagor is a 9 year vet who could be valuable to our squad.

    Scouting Report from ESPN Insider:
Reagor is athletic, versatile and plays with a great motor. He has good initial quickness, active hands and a relentless approach. He can be disruptive hitting gaps and staying on the move. He has good short-area quickness and explosive movement skills. He has above-average functional strength when he maintains his pad level at the point of attack. He is a willing backside chase player and has good range outside the box. He is a strong tackler. He can get on a pass blocker’s edge quickly and works hard to finish. He shows good moves (a hard club, rip and spin) off his initial charge. He has good balance and control when redirecting off stunts or double moves. But Reagor is undersized and can struggle in power matchups. He struggles to maintain his leverage when moving laterally down the line. He can get washed out of run lanes.

    1. The Giants will not throw money away
    2. Why have the practice and practice for that matter if you can’t groom players for the next season.
    A. They must be comfortable with Double D starting LT and the young fella backing him up.
    B. I think Jennings and Moss will be a problem for nickle backs because of their speed. Lets allow them to play a little.
    C. The coaches know what they have and what they don’t have. I for one rather lose with rookies than veterans. The whole damn team was hurt and the young guys did ok. With that experience and them learning the playbook this offseason, I expect more production from second year players. We need people to play their position to do what the coach says to do and maybe they believe some of the young fellas are capable of playing their positions.

  27. Hazem Kiswani says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

Dan S - Thanks. I’m not a very big Reese fan at this point. Very frustrating.

I can understand not wanting to break the bank on mediocre players, but Reese has failed to beef up the defense at all. The offense has only gotten worse losing a Hall of Fame caliber running back and an offensive lineman.

The trade Reese pulled was a very good one, but as of right now, Reese has been a huge dissapointment this offseason.

  28. gianthinker says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 4:01 pm

absoutely right Hazem. Reese pulled off a great trade for Droughns. but thats it. thats all? he needs to wake up.

what do you think about Reagor?

  29. Hazem Kiswani says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 4:01 pm

giantthinker - Reagor would be a nice addition to the rotation I agree. We need some more versatility on defense, and he’d be a nice veteran presence also.

  30. Krow says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 4:24 pm

Curtis… 32 mil with a 7 mil signing bonus. OK, I was wrong. He’s not worth it. I wouldn’t have given him that. There isn’t a lot Reese can do if they’re going to pay millions for average talent.

  31. Anthony says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

Adam, You said it best “I for one rather lose with rookies than veterans.” Reese, coaches, and staff know what they have and dont have. We’re not sitting on our hands here guys. Look what Philly supposedly paid for a #2-#3 WR… Forget it! There is still crazy money to be made out there in this insane free agency. The chaos is apparently still at large… and we have made it clear we want no part of it. Reese moved lightning fast to get a great deal for Droughns. We’re obviously moving when the price is right. I get the feeling that some of you are dissapointed because you just want us to sign people so we have something to talk about. I’m not looking foward to overpaying #2 and #3 players just to see them not live up to expectation…AGAIN. What I am looking foward to is to see our 2nd and 3rd year younger guys step up and play with some hunger. Yea, we got some holes… trust that we will fill them and quit ass-grabbing at every second rate player that pops up in the position. Trust that the team know’s what the hell they’re doing.. stop with the negativity. The most dissapointing thing about this offseason is not Reese, it’s the lack of talent in the free-agency and the insane inflation of salaries. I’m thrilled that we are playing this smart. Imagine if EA was still here…

  32. Krow says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Yeah Anthony… I’m coming full circle too. I thought they were playing it cheap. But these fortunes for very average players is putting me off. Sit it out and let others waste their money. I mean 32 mil for a guy who’s a possession WR with a 40 catch year. Get real.

  33. Rouss says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

There is not one FA I would have liked Reese to have signed for the money that they signed for, None. My only beef with him so far is letting Petitgout go too early. At worst, He could have used him as trade bait for picks.
Reese is supposedly a draft guru, so the jury is still out on him until after the draft.

    Ricky Williams reinstatement:
If Williams is reinstated, he’ll be available to the Dolphins at the bargain-basement price of $585,000 for 2007. Assuming that he still has some gas in the tank, giving him a third chance makes plenty of sense.
Of course, the Dolphins also could trade him. But it’s highly unlikely that there will be much of a market for his services until he shows that he can get it done on the field.

Although Ricky Williams has some serious baggage that we don’t need and we already signed RD to back up Jacobs, what do u guys think about this report. He is after all a very talented back regardless of his addiction to the ganja. Let’s say we cut Ward and let Ricky prove himself behind BJ and RD. We’ve got nothing to lose for that price…that is if the Dolphins are willing to trade him.

  37. Frank E. Kurczewski says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

The problem with using Pettigout as trade bait is some, perhaps, many teams would cite his injury situation and the possibility of him failing their team physical as a reason for not wanting him. He was damaged goods for six of his eight seasons with the Giants.

  38. James from Albany says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 6:44 pm

For extra DT’s in the rotation if Scott can’t be signed.
How about Cory Redding, Randy Starks, Alvin McKinley???
Could save us from using a draft pick.

  39. JTB NYG says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 7:50 pm

Gents, the more I look at this, the more it looks like a 3 year plan to me. Reese was obviously not happy with the personnel that EA handed hiim, and I’m not even looking at next year or two years out. By the time these draft picks “pan out” it will be 3 years and hopefully things are a lot brighter with the performance of Eli. Mind you, I thought Eli played very well at Ole Miss when it seemed like it was all on his shoulders….as Tiki has reiterated several times - Eli needs to step up. I know this has been posted all over this board, but look at what the Falcons are going through with Vick - at some point it just comes down to one guy in a team game. The problem is that NY is never patient with a Starbucks coffee, let alone our teams. And being a Giants fan for 28 years (I was 1) - I like the plan right now. Just think about being a contender year in and year out with a new coach like the Pats are currently…

  40. carlos says:

I really think the Giants have just let too many free agents players that could of been key addition slipped out of their hands just because they’re not willing to give some extra cash. I like GM Jerry Reese and the first move he did releasing some old prone injured veterans. I understand the price for CB Clements , LB A. Thomas, LT Davis, CB Smoot were just too High, But i mean enough is enough i think the players that he should of try extra to get and that we defenitly need it were FS Deon Grant (seahawks) maybe the only one that was too expensive; WR Kevin Curtis (eagles), CB Rod Hood (Cardinals) at least one of this three would of been very good addition to the team. I just hope they dont let DT Ian Scott get away , i mean this players are what GM JR is looking for right young players with alot of pontential so whats the problem money? cap room? and to think we’re going upgrade or fill in the wholes with just the Draft is Insane, I dont care how good of a scout you are to me with all due respect GM JR is doing a poorly horrible job.

Cato June will not fit this defensive scheme. Any way you look at it. He is not a run stopper. He is supposedly a good cover guy. But if I am an offensive coordinator, I call a run or a draw to his side everytime Cato is on the field.Cover that.

Regarding the rumors of the Redskins trading up, the NFL network just reported that Dan Snyder recently attented a workout for Calvin Johnson in person. Sounds like he’s the target for Snyder, which means it very well could happen. They’d have to trade up, since there is no way that Johnson gets past Tampa. They would probably try to work out a deal with Detroit. Many have speculated that Detroit may look to trade down on draft day.

  46. Jay Vultaggio says:

    March 15th, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Chad, It is interested to keep an eye on this situation. The Redskins are without their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks. To trade up from 6 to 2 would most likely cost them next years 1st round pick.

  47. Kyle says:

    March 16th, 2007 at 12:17 am

Anything that involves the Redskins trading up in this draft, no matter what player its for, is a great move for the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys. The more picks they sacrifice, the better. It will further perpetuate their vicious cycle of having to sign any and everyone, which they also do poorly, given the absurd size of the contract and the underwhelming players they target, because they lack the draft picks to fill out their roster with competent players.

Carlos - I myself am not that frequent a contributer due to work/time restraints but what I love about this site is that you guys bleed blue as deeply as I do - and imagine that as a NYer in Boston…anyway. Carlos we are not going to see that from Reese and I think he is looking far into the future - say when Eli is a 7-8yr vet ( see peyton). He has the gameplan - we just need to get the picks to get us to the next level. I am not expecting things over the next 2 yrs - I think he has taken this team back a step to go three steps forward. Honestly, I dont like it better, but in the end we are building a DY-NASTY…and if you want to hate then hate JTB NYG……

Dan B. And Hazem- you guys are doing a hell of a job that I think is still underappreciated. Who would I have listened to if I didnt have a sounding board to bounce my complaints/concerns??? Not trying to be Ari from Entourage - but can I be the first to donate to your future endeavors? Seriously - lets start the MVN-GMEN fund. I will start it off with a paypal hondo to get his going. You guys rock and this is the first site that I visit first at 7:45 every day….

A Giants’ fan has made this appraisal of the 2007 situation:

Every NFC East team has improved except NY.
The Giants are weaker this year than last year.
Reuben Droughns cannot replace Tiki Barber.
An aging 2nd WR is coming off a serious injury.
There is no proven 3rd WR.
Can David Diehl replace Luke Pettigout?
    There is no backup TE.
There is no reliable backup QB.
    There is no OL depth.
There have been no additions to the defense.

The draft cannot fix all of the holes on this team.

  51. Frank E. Kurczewski says:

Frank..the season dosen’t start tomorrow! You can’t appraise the value of a house before it’s built. I’m tired of this premature ejac..I mean evaluations of our situation. The Skins have supposedly “improved” almost every season by making dumb expensive aquisitions. Need I say more? Is that what you think will improve our situation?? Being stupid? Your appraisal carries no weight other than a completely pessimistic attitude and I’m tired of fans harboring this outlook to our season.

Frank…. frankly I’m concerned about your outlook on other areas of your life if this is how you see our team. Lighten up… it’s March!! Enjoy the big dance and begin your appraisals at a more appropriate time…maybe pre-season. Otherwise keep that noise to yourself.

Cato June needs to be signed now. And every day that goes by with no intrest is one day closer to the Giants getting him. He can’t fit the defensive scheme really? A 27 year old pro bowl LB doesn’t fit our system I find that hard to believe it is not like we are talking vast difference that would be a 4-3 DT going to a 3-4 system. June is a LB and great at coverage which is our D’s biggest weakness. And would have time to learn our D. It just blows my mind that people wont shut up about how we should move Kewi to LB even though its an entirely different position but then go on rants about how June who is a LB couldn’t adjust his play for a different scheme. (I know I know Kiwi played LB in the days of your)

As far as Reese, he talks all this smack about agressively signing free agents going for youth but every chance he has to snag a young player on the rise (Like Hood) he completely drops the ball. June and Scott need to be a priority. Though espn doesn’t even report us as a possible destination for Scott.

And stop telling the people who are speaking the truth you don’t want to hear to be quite. What do you guys think is going to happen between now and August that is going to change our teams situation? Does anyone honestly believe we are going to draft 7 starters in the draft? We will be lucky to get 3. That still leaves vast holes in our team. And don’t talk to me about June cuts because we will be lucky to gain a starter from their. And don’t start sighting the patriots. They picked up WR to fill one or two holes in a super bowl champion team. We went 8-8 and need 8 starters. So lets just say you sign 3 starters in the draft you still need 5 more starters and at much more important positions then WR. That said everyone should get off Toomer’s back the guy was our best reciever until he went down and he must obviously be making progress in rehab since Rash Reese didn’t cut him along with Luke, Lavar and Emmons

First time post, occasional reader trying to get info, but WHY is everyone so into the draft but then so afraid to let younger drafted players get playing time and demanding the Giants sign half asses mediocre free agents. Don’t you want to see how Wilk, Blackburn, Torbor, Moss, Cofield, Kiwi, Dockerty, Whimper, etc. actually DO before you kick them to the curb. Every good team (see Bears, ex.) have players that come up year to year from PAST drafts - not the IMMEDIATE ones. Most young players need a year or two to come around (see OSI, EVEN STRAHAN!!!!). AD THOMAS HAD LESS THAN 100 TACKLES HIS FIRST 4 YEARS IN THE NFL!!!! CURTIS HAD 4 CATCHES FOR 13 YARDS! T Jones, 373 yards for a 3.3 ave. in year 1. J Porter, 10 tackles in year 1. Kearney 25 tackles, 2.5 sacks year 1. D Grahm 15 catches year 1. D. Grant did not even play a game year 1. If you get hooked on the FA quick fix, you become the skins, and never develop good young players, right??

Toomer is our best overall WR. However, he needs to do what Droughns did and rework his deal.
Come on Reese, Jexxel is right. You have to sign a few guys. You have no choice unless you’re setting up for the #1 pick overall next year…

Um how do you start talking about how we shouldn’t involve ourselves in FA then talk about how long it takes to develope draft tallent. Your disproving your own point. I totally agree it takes a couple of years to develope draft tallent. That is why thinking we are going to solve our personel problems through the draft is so rediculous. Also incase you hadn’t noticed we have seen what these back ups can do because they all played for the injured starters during our horrible 7 game losing streak. That is why you need to sign free agents because they fill those holes while you develope tallent. Now I’m not saying you need to spend like the Redskins but you can’t just draft a team either. Look at the shinning example of use the draft, the Patriots, have they over spent on undertalented players? No, they get young guys to fill the holes on their team while they wait for their guys to develope. And I am not saying you kick any players to the curb. I am just living in a little place I like to call reality. These guys are not ready to start yet except for Kewi. I have a lot of faith in these guys but as they stand now are they ready? Whimper? No one said he would part of the line instead we are moving guards around. You know why that is? He isn’t ready to play. Moss was injured all season so this is really a rookie season for him. Dockerty? He played a few plays here and there and did nothing that spectacular. Is he ready to be the corner we need to help our coverage? No. FA is about making the right moves and while the Giants did pass up on some horrible contracts Davis, Clements. They have also snoozed on some key players Hood, Thomas, and Rhodes. Anyway you know your team is in for a long season when your biggest story during free agency is one of your line backers witnessing a shooting.

Toomer reworked his deal the begining of last week.

    Jexxel,

Good point on the B. Short shooting thing, even more sad when technically he is not even one of our LB’s. But there is a salient difference between saying focus on this years draft for holes (which I did NOT say) and focus on making a committment to players drafted in PAST years - guys with 1 to 4 years that never got much real time, as opposed to fill in time. Popping in players to just plug leaks is way different than saying as a team that you will make a committment to starting and playing these players before you judge if they will work or not. It takes several games to get them going. LOOK AT OSI’S 2ND SASON, sucked till the last half of it, All-pro the next year. Look at the deals Hood, Thomas, and Rhodes all signed, big $$ and LONG TERM. And while they are on the team, less playing time = less experience = less development for the drafted players. Even the guys you mention ONLY got a chance to show their ability when they got a committment to actually PLAY (like Rhodes his 1 and just this last season) and Hood only aftyer his 1st year when Lito was hurt. Torbor was not bad in 05 before he got hurt, then we signed a bunch of geriatrics and he never saw the field in 06 till they broke. Play em first before you give up and keep looking for old replacements, be the Chargers or the Tigers, not the Skins or Yankees.

Um so you know Hood is 26 hardly a broke old player and someone I would sign to a long term deal in a second. Also these guys werent plugged in for a game here or their, our average injured player last year was out four 4-6 weeks. That is plenty of time to adjust and “get going.” If they can’t show a readiness to play over a four week span they are not ready to play. And like you said Hood got his chance to become a starter when Lito was hurt. Welcome to the NFL you don’t get a chance unless you can beat out the starter or he gets hurt. No team is going to purposely not get tallent to give their back ups a chance. If you think this is what the giants are doing you are just naive. Just today I learned ticket prices have gone up for the sixth time in seven years. And we aren’t spending any money on free agents. Hmmm I wounder where that extra money goes. Cough owners pocket Cough. So just think about that when you are so happy that we are giving guys a chance. Reese must be the NFL mother tarisa.

Yup and I would hate for the Giants to be like the Yankees and win Four super bowls in the last 12 years.

Funny, what was the last World Series the Yanks WON in THIS CENTUTRY???? Oh yeah, NONE since they started overspending again ala 1980’s.

Jeter - farm system. Bernie Williams — same. Who is the last young guy they have been patient with and gave a try rather than go and get another stop gap. The point is not that Hodd is 26 its that you bring in Hodd (not so great anyhow!) and then you naver get the young guys on the field to see how they develop. Anyhow, we could go round and round on this, just agree to disagree. And good point about the season tix prices and owners’ $$ though.

Frank, the reason for the Raiders taking Calvin Johnson with the first pick would be them acquiring Aaron Rodgers in a trade from the Packers in exchange for Randy Moss.
