Giants Championship Parade
What is up everyone? Hope you are all still enjoying basking in the glory of this championship as much as I am. I work right on Broadway downtown, and just got back to the office from the parade, and it was a GREAT time. I just wanted to fire off a quick, informal post about it:
I started looking out of my office window around 10am and there were people from many of the office buildings launching rolls of toilet paper and shredded up paper out of many of the windows. Sadly, my windows don’t open, so I could not throw anything. It was so loud I could make out the “Let’s Go Gi-ants” and “de-fense, de-fense” cheers from my desk all morning.Â
A little before I 11am I made it downstairs and was on the corner of Liberty Street and Broadway, and the atmosphere was electric. It was a sea of Giants blue, and there were lots of drunken high school aged kids, who I was jealous of. Lots of good looking girls dressed in Giants gear, which I think we can all agree gives them all plus ten hotness points. The air was thick with confetti being dropped from the surrounding office windows.Â
Pretty soon afterwards, the floats started coming down Broadway, and it was really cool to see. I had my digital camera and was firing off pictures. The first good picture I got was of Steve Smith and Amani Toomer, which came out really well. Toomer got a big ovation from the crowd and a “Too-mer, Too-mer” chant broke out. I got some nice shots of Tuck and Osi, Cofield and Robbins, as well as Webster and Ross.  The floats alternated between players and their families, and the families had some good signs. There were a few “Boston Sucks” signs which sparked a “Let’s Go Yankees” chant and I saw a guy holding a sign saying “I am Wilkinson’s Uncle”. Good for you guy!
A few minutes later an “M-V-P, M-V-P” chant broke out and we all knew Eli was up next. He was on a float with Coughlin and Strahan and I got a sick picture of Eli holding the trophy over his head. I was a little pissed I couldn’t get a good shot of Big Mike, because he was on the opposite side of the float from me.Â
A few other notes - The linebackers were the rowdiest bunch, all jumping around and dancing as they came through. I got a great shot of Pierce. A lot of the players were throwing signed gear into the crowd, but I couldn’t get a hand on any of it. Feagles got a HUGE reaction from the crowd, which I thought was great. I also heard a “Tiki Who?” chant at one point. Spags got a huge reaction from the crowd as well, with first a “de-fense, de-fense” chant and then “one more year”. All in all it was a great time and was really cool to see in person. I have to get back to the grind, later on. Â

Rich, I too had to work and unfortunately my office is located next to Madison Square Park, so no parade for me. However, I was there in spirit. My mind and body are pretty jealous though.
I have been a Giant fan all 25 plus years I have been on this planet, and having the opportunity to see the most unlikely of Super Bowl victories with my father was priceless. My apartment is on 1st ave in the 30’s, and let me just say that after the 4th down hail mary attempt dropped to the ground, I heard a deafening noise coming from outside my open windows. I muted my television and I heard thousands and thousands of people screaming. That feeling will be with me forever.
Dammit though, hot girls in Giants gear you say? Shiiiiiit…

Man, I wish i could have been there! Tough being stuck in Texas right now.
Anyways, glad to know you were able to be there, RIch. Thanks for the update!

I couldn’t make the drive from richmond, but thank God forthe NFL network (even if I do have to buy stupid sports package for it).
It was great to watch the parade and the key pesentation afterward; though I know I missed alot of the emotion of the crowd by not being there.
I was glad to see Kiwi there for the Key, but Shockey was a very noticable no-show. Did anyone see Ward? I’d feel better about Shockey not being there if Ward couldn’t make it as well.

Durden: I live on 84th and 1st and that roar was AMAZING!
Rich: WHERE WAS PLAX TODAY? I watched the parade on my computer at work and did not see him. Was he there???

The best was the very loud “Redskins suck” chant when Spags came by. He knew exactly what we were talking about, and even began to pump his fist after a while. Good sign, perhaps?!?

where can we go to see pix/video? Frustrated lifelong Jints fan Stuck in DC

Albie:
My Co-workers and I were looking hard for Plax and didn’t see him either. From where we were standing it was tough to see the players on the far side of the floats, so I was unsure if I missed him or not. You would think he would stand out. We also didn’t see Shockey or Ward, and I must have missed Jacobs and Bradshaw somehow. Like I said Strahan was on the far side of the float from me and I missed him as well. A lot of the players did stand out, however, and I got a great shot of Seubert holding the NFC Championship Trophy. I got some good shots of Eli (holding the Lombardi), Toomer, Boss, Lorenzen, Smith, Torbor, Mitchell, Pierce, Osi, Kiwi, Webster, Wilson, Feagles, and Tynes to name a few and much of the coaching staff and owners (Tisch and Mara).

rich i was on that block i don’t know if u saw it but one of the funnier moments was around 10:30, right over the McDonalds the old people on the balcony were trying to catch the football being thrown around. It was loud, exciting , and a great time too bad some of you couldn’t come out
February 5th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Jacobs was on the first float i can’t tell who else because of my bad camara man skills
February 5th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I gotta say…I don’t think Plax was there. I didn’t even hear his name mentioned during the key to the city ceremony. I need to find this out!! Not that it matters but the guy caught the winning td in a SUPERBOWL!
February 5th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
after checking my video camara there is a guy screaming Plaxico and the player turns around and points to him so it be Plax. the float after the linebackers came through

Anyone really concerned with losing Spags… that could a big blow for our D.. the last thing we need is a new DC to come on a change the scheme up again
February 5th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
If the giants lose spags we should promote someone from inside the organization to keep the system intact

Man it’s times like these that make me *really* miss living in NYC. I remember back in the day (i.e. 1996-2000) when they’d have the annual Yankees parade, there would some lovely ladies lined up at the windows of their office buildings with their business blouses lifted over the heads as the parade passed on by. Time honored New York tradition…

Plax was at the Victory Party at the Stadium. Being there was one of the best days of my life. Governor Cody was going nuts…Bashing the Patriots.
February 5th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
No Osi at all which was weird!!
February 5th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
They are saying that not being able to hire his own Coaching staff may be a deal breaker for Spags. Lets hope so. He was getting pumped when we were chanting Redskins Suck and Please Don’t go.
February 5th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
OSI is in Hawaii…he hates to fly (ala - Madden) and he couldn’t deal with flying AZ to NY…then NY to Hawaii. He did say on the NFL Network that he cried when watching the parade…his first cry in years apparently.
Also…how about the hit delivered by Alford on Brady!!! Wassss Upppp Rookies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 5th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I was at the parade as well and oh man, what an experience. I got there at 7:30am, so I had a real good vantage point near City Hall. Plax was def there; he was in a black leather jacket and shaved his goatee, can’t remember which float he was on - but he was in the back and seemed to be keeping it low key. Jacobs was on the first float and actually jumped off and started running around the streets before the cops basically made him get back on the float, I friggin’ love that guy.
The entire parade was absolutely electric and despite having to stand for 7+ hours (and not be able to piss for the same amount of time), it was something I would go to again in a heartbeat… hopefully next year!!! It was great to be able to support the team after proving the entire world wrong and bringing back the Lomardi Trophy to NY, where it belongs.
Let’s go Big Blue, SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
February 5th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
thats what i thought but he wasn’t there to get a key and news outlets had said he wasn’t there.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Now I’ve replayed the Drive seven times.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
So many ironies. How bout Eli scrambling for a 3 yard gain on 1st & 10 at the 35. Adalius Thomas grabs his forearm–much like Bruce Smith grabbed Hoss’ in the end zone in SB 25. I can’t believe he held on.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:47 am
1. NFL Network is re-airing the entire game tonight at 8:30
2. ESPN is reporting that Fassel is still the front-runner. If Spags wants to pick his staff it doesn’t help us that Gregg Williams, the ‘Skins D-Coordinator, left for Jacksonville.

My whole family is from New York, but we live in Denver with the ever so annoying Bronco fans. Even today, they don’t acknowledge the victory of the Giants super bowl. To watch the game with my brother and my father and to see so many happy New Yorkers was one of the happiest times in my life. The parade looked awesome from TV and my favorite part was the MVP chant that Eli received. So many people out here give us hell for being Giants fans and now they have to hear it from us all year long!!
GIANTS ARE #1!!!!
