Trade Shockey???
Ok, we have debated this subject on the site for a few weeks now, and it is time to write a serious post about it. I know I am going to get a lot of hate here. Keep in mind I am exploring both sides of the argument here, and I will give my final thoughts at the end of the post. The question is: Should the Giants trade Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey if the right offer comes along?
The Facts:
- The Giants drafted Jeremy Shockey with the 14th pick in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Since then Shockey was named the rookie of the year, has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) and was named an All Pro once (2002). During that time period Shockey has played 83 games for the Giants, catching 371 passes for 4228 yards and 27 touchdowns. Â
- The Giants just won the Super Bowl without Jeremy Shockey. Shockey was lost for the season during the week 15 home loss to the Washington Redskins, when he broke his left fibula. Shockey has been injured several times during his NFL career, has never played a full 16 game schedule, and has missed 13 career games due to injury.Â
The case for keeping Shockey:
- Jeremy Shockey is one of the focal points of the Giants offense, and there is no doubt they are a better unit with him on the field. Shockey is a great athlete and causes match up problems all over the field for the opposition. He has the ability to run after the catch, stretch the field from the tight end position and block effectively in the running game. He is faster than most linebackers (and some safeties, I’m talking to you Roy Williams), and too big for any defensive back to handle one on one. Â
- With the talented Kevin Boss in the fold, the Giants will be free to use two tight end sets, or use one of them tight and the other in the slot. Having Shockey and Boss on the field at the same time, with Plaxico on the outside, will be a nightmare for the opposition. Â
- Eli Manning says he wants Shockey back, and knows the offense is more dangerous with Shockey than without him.Â
- Shockey is an emotional player who plays hard every time he is on the field, and by all accounts he practices as hard as he plays.  He is passionate about the game and plays every snap as if it is his last. Â
The case for trading Shockey:
- It is no secret that the Saints have called the Giants and offered their second round pick (41st overall) for Shockey. There are conflicting reports on whether or not the Saints included 25 year old safety Roman Harper in the deal. Some reports say the Giants asked for Harper and the second round pick in return for Shockey and the Saints turned them down, and other reports say the Saints offered the Giants their second round pick and Harper for Shockey and the Giants shot them down. Other teams have also expressed interest in acquiring Shockey, including the Bills, Raiders and Seahawks. Another name that has been floated around in trade scenarios is the Bills Dontae Whitner, a safety who was the 8th overall selection in the 2006 draft out of Ohio State.  Â
- Kevin Boss had a very promising rookie year for the Giants, and looks like he has the potential to be a star in this league. He is young and is not the blocker that Shockey is yet, however the skill set is there.  Boss filled in very well for the injured Shockey, catching 9 passes for 182 yards and 2 TDs. He also had one of the most memorable plays of the Super Bowl on a 45-yard catch and run, beating New England safety Rodney Harrison.Â
- The argument can be made that Eli Manning did not start playing to the best of his abilities until Shockey was injured. Shockey was often criticized for throwing his hands up in disgust when he was open and Eli would throw in a different direction, and throwing tantrums on the bench when he did not get the ball often enough. (the argument can be made that Plaxico acted the same way, and he and Eli worked great together) Some think Eli attempted to force the ball to Shockey too often, resulting in interceptions and mistakes. After Shockey’s injury, Eli basically stopped throwing interceptions and led the Giants on an amazing Super Bowl run.  The question is: Is Eli Manning a better quarterback without Jeremy Shockey on the field?  Â
My Take:
I am a huge Jeremy Shockey fan, and have worn his jersey to every home game since we drafted him (but I bust out the new white Justin Tuck on 9/4). He is the type of player that you love to have on your team, and fans of other teams love to hate him. I think as of now that the Giants should keep Jeremy Shockey, but I am still a little on the fence. If the Giants keep Shockey he has to understand that this is Eli’s team (like Plax did) and Eli has to stop taking his crap. If Shockey throws a tantrum, Eli needs to grab him by the facemask and make him understand that he is going to get the ball when he gets the ball. If Shockey cannot mature, he has to be gone. We won the Super Bowl without him, and we can still get a lot of value for an often injured tight end. If we could land a Roman Harper or Dontae Whitner and a second round draft pick, that is great value for Shockey. We are talking about an instant upgrade to our secondary and the weakest spot on our defense. If Jerry Reese can land Harper/Whitner and a second round pick, I think he will have to pull the trigger on a Shockey deal.Â

Brees to Shockey = huge numbers!

ROC,
I think that’s a good breakdown of the situation. I say give Shockey one more year, and see if he matures a little more, since he did, in fact, mature last year. He wasn’t seen throwing up his hands in disgust or throwing tantrums anywhere near what he used to do. I think he will realize they did win the Super Bowl without him, so it’s time to step in line. Not the easiest thing for a habitual line-crosser, but hey…it needs to be done.

I might just be confusing dreams with reality again, but I swear I heard on ESPN today, or read somewhere on the web, that the Giants were interested in trading up. Perhaps this is a move to take my personal man crush DRC?
March 28th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
i too would very muh like jeremy shockey to remain a giant. however, in the big picture, if the giants would be a better team by trading him, they should pull th trigger. unlike, in some instances, the giants would have abetter than adequate player to replace him. they would not have to spend a pick or money to get one. harper or whitaker would improve an area of need and the 2nd pick would be used on a good player. you never say never so if a trade is overwhelming or would improve the team more he should be moved. but jeremy shockey is still a new york football giant.
March 28th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
I’m also on the fence about Shockey 1 of my Favorite Giants. But let’s face he does drop alot of easy balls that are thrown to him, makes some boneheaded plays when he does make a good play.
But how can you not love the way he plays the game? That time when he lost his helmet and he STILL was trying to get more yards!!! I don’t think we should trade him beacuse right now his value is down because of the broken leg. How will that affect him? I mean he does have a rod inserted in there. Give him 1 more year and if he tows the line we have a keeper!
March 28th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I think the better question is…where does Shockey “want” to be…if he’s not sold out on helping Big Blue get back to the Bowl…its time for him to move on. I agree, he is a valuable weapon in our arsenal but not indispensable. If Shockey would rather a change of scenery (regardless of he reason) I say get the value now and let him go…the trade possibilities with the Bills, Saints and Raiders have some merit…particularly if it involved the CB from Oakland. I’m still not sold on Webster…while he did rise to the occasion during the playoffs he still looked real shaky on that touchdown to Moss in the SB.
March 28th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
The touchdown to Moss was just bad luck. He went to jam Moss at the line and got tripped up. On the next drive he deflected a pass from Brady to Moss to keep ‘em from scoring. I’m not sold on him either, but no one can deny he had a ridiculous 4-5 games at the end of the season/playoffs.

Hi to all,
I too am very torn on this situation. I don’t want to see JShock go anywhere because I feel as if with him, our offense will be even better than last year. I know we signed Sammy for a quick stop gap S, but we all know we need a long term one. I would think Reese would want to keep Shockey, and draft Phillips out of the U, but we don’t know that for sure. The Donte Whitner trade scenaro is the first I’ve heard of that. I know he can play–and would think that would be the better trade if it were going to happen.
I think Reese holds onto Shockey, unless we can get Aso, which I don’t think will happen.
I hope he doesn’t go.
Peace to all

They should definately trade Shockey. His negatives far outweigh his positives. He simply isn’t worth what he is being paid and the team is better off without him. I’d cut him if I couldn’t trade him.
I don’t agree with your four positives.
1) Yes he is a focal point of the offense due to his constant whining. Teams prosper when they have a good tight end that makes the other teams D cover the middle of the field. The threat is the positive not the actual use of the TE. Too many passes to the TE is rarely a good thing The Giants prospered because Shockey’s touches went to the recievers who are far more likely to turn short passes into big plays.
2) Replacing a WR with a TE in no way makes for a better passing offense.
3) Eli is a classy guy (unlike Shockey) and doesn’t throw his teammates under the bus. He may want Shockey back or he may not. Either way he isn’t going to say “dump Shockey” to the press so there’s no way to know his true feelings.
4) Shockey is passionate about getting his touches, making pro bowls and getting his money (his refusal to work out with Eli is because he wants to save on taxes by maintaining Florida residency instead of NY residency). I have not seen him express a similar passion for his team or winning. During the Superbwl it was clear that Peyton Manning was passionate about his brother winning (and by default the Giants). The one time they showed Shockey he just looked bored and more concerned about his beer than the game. While I can’t say for sure that was his demeanor the entire game I have to believe if Shockey was showing emotion like Peyton was he would have gotten more face time. And what was he doing in a booth instead of down on the field?
March 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
The Shockey we have seen since his arrival is who he is and he is not going to change. He is not going to stop those annoying exhibitions just like he’s not going to stop trying to make a big play every time his number is called. I say he is a plus for the team and even if they can get good help in the secondary they should keep him. Like others have said I think a Shockey/Boss tandem will be tough to defense.
March 28th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
High salary, often injured, may have lost a step, refuses to work out with the team in NJ during the off-season, and can be a distraction. Do you really think that’s the kind of player Jerry Reese wants on his team?
I think if the Giants get a decent offer, they will trade Shockey and draft a good young TE to compete with Boss.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
WOW! I never knew Whitner was in the cards! That guy is a serious playmaker and would be a HUGE upgrade to our secondary. I don’t know much about Roman Harper, but I do like what I’ve seen out of Whitner. If we could land
March 28th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Whitner and the Bills second rounder (10th pick in the 2nd, due to the Pats) I would do it…
March 28th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I say keep him. Obviously other teams are seeing something, if there is that much interest. However, there should be an attitude adjustment that starts with him being here for mini-camp, espeically coming off an injury. If he is not here, then all bets are off..

March 28th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Shockey has value right now, but that is fading every year he gets beat up. He plays so hard that he takes more of a beating then other players. This year while he is in Florida, Boss will be training with Eli and that is where the TE chemistry will naturally flow. Shockey has already slowed down. Take the safety and the #2 during draft weekend and the Giants will be better off.
March 28th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Although I would like to trade Shockey to obtain Whitner as well as a #2 pick, we can’t. The main reason is that there is no TE on the roster who even comes close to blocking for the run the way JShock does. With all of his negatives (and there are plenty; e.g., his insistence on training at the U of Miami), our running game improves just with his presence on the field.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
You have to think what our offense would be like if we do keep jshock… It would be a potent one . I’m kind of between a rock and hard place with this one. Because if he would play his game he could be managed… But just think what it would be like if they trade him… We can address our needs all in two rounds… S,CB @ LB and also get a good young safety also in the trade.. So it’s something to think about.. Trading with the raiders would give us a high pick in the 2nd round … but to get Whinter from the Bills would be awesome.. So whatever JR does will be bestt for the team.. What would be a real dream would be if we could get someones 1st round pick for him and also one of their safetys…. Wishfull thinking I guess… Well anyway savior the moment… and enjoy the downtime Giant fans … because before you guys know it … it will be giant football again…..

SHockey is the man and if they trade him The giants are f***** stupid period
March 28th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
The guy is a great player, and that’s why there is so much interest in him. If we wait a year to trade him, the interest might not be the same. We’ve shown that we can be successful without him, so if we can, why not pick up two players (a 2nd round pick and Whitner or Harper) and move on with what we’ve got. We haven’t even been properly utilizing Shockey. The guy is in blocking too much, and sure, he’s a good blocker, but what separates him from the pack is his ability in the passing game. Send him somewhere where he’ll be more of an offensive focal point (how many games this year did he not even have a catch in the first half?), he’ll be happier, and we’ll get a lot for him while his stock is still up. I mean hey, what value for a 14th selection, we got 6 great years with 4 pro bowls, and can still trade him away for a second round pick and a former 2nd rounder or 1st rounder- grab it.

SHockey is the man and if they trade him The giants are f***** stupid period
James “KOrea” Kim,
I’m with you on that one 100%.
i know that’s right…if SHockey can stay healthy steppin’ to the PLAYOFFS, SHhhhhh…He can Beast (SS) (FS) (LB’S) man if he can just stay 95% strong…can you see what he coulda done if he was playing in that SUPERBOWL -vs- the New England Patriots.
March 28th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I think we should keep him, at least this year. I would like to see Boss do what he did in the playoffs for a full season. Teams are going to gameplan for him now after this playoff performance. Once Shockey was done for the year, teams didnt look at the TE position with fear, like they were with Shockey there. Boss was an afterthought who turned out to be a bonus for us, whereas Shockey, is a proven commodity. Besides, Matthews isnt scaring anyone either. I say we let Boss and Matthews grow under Shockey for another year and then move him.
March 28th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Donte Whitner has not been mentioned in trade talks. I don’t know where you got that from.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
We need to keep Shockey in New York. I think Reese’s pickup of Knight is vastly underrated, as much as I enjoyed having Wilson in our secondary, Knight is not that much of a downgrade and IF Johnson can step up his game we will be fine for 08. That being said, I do not think giving up one of our top offensive weapons, one of the top 3 TEs in the NFL, for a second tier safety is a good idea. Next year the FA pool will have much more depth a S than it did this year as I am sure the draft will. Giving up a future HOFer would be a mistake. The guy can produce, he loves playing in NYC and is a true Giant, we CANNOT let him go.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Don’t forget that Darcy Johnson looks like a player and can really stretch the field. Take the best offer and let Shockey go.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
yall crazy talking about trading shockey!!!!!!!!! crazyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! and dumb too!!! dats like trading michael strahan!! dont give a damm how he acts on the field because the man just wants to do whatever it takes for hes team to win. The man with passion heart and soul and hes (shockey) one of does players that just plays for the love of the game and just for the money!!! just cuz he got injured and that rookie did a nice job dont mean you have to dump the guy and all of sudden trade him!!! everytime the guy will lay it all on the line to help hes team win. and now yall wanna trade him or are agreeing with trade talks.. yall silly for real!!!
March 29th, 2008 at 12:34 am
Where there’s smoke there’s fire. JR is entertaining offers looking for the best deal, I think we can conclude that that’s a given. They must have confidence in what they see in Boss and his progress. They may also see some TE’s in the later rounds they like for debth. The trade won’t go down until both teams see who is on the board when the offered pick is on the clock. I think Shockey will be gone before the early second round of the draft concludes. Oakland doesn’t have the money to sign it’s #4 draft pick. (Shockey and our 2009 first round pick for this pick) Would the other team QB call in sick every week if we had Glenn Dorsey up front with Strahan, Osi, and Tuck, with Kiwi coming off the edge? MY GOD talk about a sack attach made for a Spags D!! The draft has always been about dreaming up fun possibilities.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:49 am
Once agaain Shockey will have a huge year 1000
yards 12 tochdowns. Compare his stats to any TE
0ver the past four years. Hes always close to the top. Now that Eli has a viable 3rd receiver everything will open up for are O. Also as I stated last year Magik is the power of the mind to influence reality. Im saying this because last year when all you negative nannys and haters were bashing Eli and saying are Team was shit, it created a huge pool of negative energy. I
had to watch every game alone concentrating just to break your negativity. This task nearly killed me but it was worth it. Now you all are hating on Shockey. Thanks to all the fans out there that never quit last year.
March 29th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Eli would never say he wanted Shockey gone, it’s not his style. If Shockey does not participate in the off season practices beginning next week, get rid of him. He should either be “all in” or somewhere else.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:51 am
In theory every player should be available for the right package unless the team feels it can’t win without the player being considered as trade bait. That’s clearly not the case with JS. My assessment is that he’s somewhere between a star and a very good player, a starter. So you have to get at least that in return keeping in mind that the Giants have a pretty good starting 22 and 7 draft choices coming. It is also the case that you might see a very energized Shockey again playing for the team you traded him to. I expect that would be a very uncomfortable situation for the Giants’ secondary not to mention their fans. We’d all hate to lose to him, even more than other teams do.
So, assuming there’s no compelling reason to get rid of him–we don’t know and might never know whether there are indeed serious personality issues at work here–you have to be convinced you’ll get at least one starter who will turn into a star with the Giants. Reese can do a lot with a #2. Steve Smith looks like a star to me but he was picked to replace Sinorice Moss, also a #2.
If team unity is at stake, trade him and get the best deal you can. But if it’s not, it’s a slippery slope.
Perhaps there’s a player the Giants are targeting in the draft, the way they targeted Shockey, and as the first or second round plays out, that player is available by moving up; I’d say do it then brace yourself.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:05 am
GIANTS DO THE TRADE, WHO KNOW HOW SHOCKEY WILL RETURN FROM THE INJ. WE DO NOT NEED HIM. WE ARE A BETTER “TEAM” WITH OUT HIM, MORE TALENTED WITH HIM. GET RID OF THE PROBLEM
March 29th, 2008 at 11:46 am
mezzanine -we have 8 picks this year(a 5th rd comp pick for Shancoe)
March 29th, 2008 at 11:50 am
i love Shockey and he has been my favorite NFL player since his first preseason game but….the NFL is a buisiness and if you can get a high 2nd rd pick and a starting S for a guy who has NEVER played a 16 game season, you absolutly have to consider it!
I personally say we hold on to him until someone sweetens it to a deal we cant refuse. If it doesnt come than we keep im and unleash what could turn ut to be the best 2 TE set in the history of the NFL!
March 29th, 2008 at 11:54 am
we should trade him now while we can still get good value for him, plus he’s coming off the broken leg. If we keep him he may help us for a couple more years, but his skills and age are already getting towards the back end, and then we’ll end up being stuck and unable to get value later. When that happens, then what will we do? We’ll get nothing, he’ll walk away for free. WE just won the superbowl, its ok to rebuild just a little. Its a perfect time to trade him
March 29th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
I think if the Saints want Shockey bad enough it may come down to the draft and perhaps traiding first round draft posistions and maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder. In general I like Shockey and don’t doubt his dedication but some times his behavour is self centered and I don’t think that fits the current team make-up and I don’t think that he will be missed.
March 29th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Some of you guys actually think the Bills will trade a former top 10 pick and a second round pick for Shockey???????
We’d probably have to trade Shockey and our second round pick to get whitner!!! But that still may not be enough.
And anyway, I haven’t seen anything about Donte Whitner being mentioned as trade bait. Sure, the Bill have been mentioned. But unless there’s a credible source/link, then I won’t believe it.
Donte Whitner is an up-and-coming safety and a game changer. It’s a different scenario then the Saints and Roman Harper. Harper is “just-a-guy.” That’s why they’ve been rumored to also throw in a second round pick also.
March 29th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Trade him right now while people are still willing to trade for this guy. He is always injured, how many more injuries can he come back from? Let’s not forget that he already has pins in his foot and his ankle. I like how Shockey plays but he has killed many drives with stupid roughing penalties and holds. I think that it would be better for him to be gone now because it is possible that he may take a back seat to Boss next year and lose his trade value. I have never been a fan of the players just of the team and that is why I realize that trading Shockey is best for my favorite team, the NY Football Giants.
March 29th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Hey, trade Shockey to the Raiders…hehehehe. Al has spent a half a billion dollars on the other injured players out there.
Go Cowboys!
March 29th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
SHOCKEY DEFINITELY MAKES THE GIANTS A MORE TALENTED TEAM; HOWEVER SO DID TIKI. AS PAINFUL AS IT IS FOR ME TO SAY THIS…. TRADE HIM FOR 1ST OR HIGH 2ND ROUNDER + QUALITY PLAYER AND GET DENFENSIVE PLAYER OR YOUNG RECIEVER TO CULTIVATE. IT IS OBVIOUS TO SEE THAT TEAM CHEMISTRY MAKES SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS PEOPLE; NOT JUST SPLASHY STARS, AS THE COWBOYS, REDSKINS, RAIDERS, BRONCOS & DARE I SAY IT, THE PATRIOTS HAVE HOPEFULLY LEARNED.
March 29th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
How about making up a package of Shockey and picks for Chad Johnson?
March 30th, 2008 at 10:59 am
“How about making up a package of Shockey and picks for Chad Johnson?”
Absolutley ridiculous.
1. WR is far from a need position for the Giants
2. Adding picks along with Shockey for a WR who wants to renegotiate his deal soon is idiotic.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:37 am
I would make the trade for Whitner and the 42nd overall and here’s why;
-improving the TEAM is the only reason you would trade a star player. Whitner would certainly start immediately and be a BIG improvement over Wilson and may even be a star player in Spagnuola’s system.Wilson, despite the mourning to the contrary, was never/will never be a star player. Plugging Whitner in makes this defense better than the one that won the super bowl.(I do remember that we lost Mitchell and Torber to FA but if you watched Nicholson on that particular blitz and saw him downfield covering you-know-who then you already know he is a star on the horizon. Similarly, Torber is replaceable and if not Kiwi, then maybe DeOssie(also, impressive at times).
-The 10th pick of the second round should enable us to snare maybe a Tracy Porter which would give us 3 solid, cover corners(I believe Webster has his confidence back and we will see him do what he was expected to do when we drafted him and that is to make plays on the ball…cause turnovers). This, also, frees up our 2nd round pick to get the guy who may have the MOST impact on our defense…a top shelf two-gap DT like a Red Bryant. Strahan will definitely return,Osi will report, Kiwi will beg to return to DE, Tuck will miss his wedding, and Pierce would feed his dogs if an oak tree was planted in the middle of our line to team with all the 3-tech guys we already have.
Oh, and with our own 1st round pick, I like Connor or if he’s gone best avail ath.
WHAT A DEFENSE!!!!!!!!
-On the other side of the ball, a deep threat with possibilities may be avail to us like a Dex Jackson, Franklin, Caldwell or Royal in the 3rd round. Other intriguing WR probably avail later on (maybe one of our 5th rnd selections) Mario Urrutia or Ernie Wheelwright) would be prac squad in ‘08 and maybe replace Amani in ‘09/’10.
-In the 4th round, I’d like to find another OL like a Rinehart, McDuffie or Chester Adams (who I really like behind Snee and Seubert).
I also read on a different sight someone suggested trading Jacobs as well as Shockey. Although I don’t think Bradshaw/Jacobs are compatible long term, I wouldn’t trade jacobs until you have another Bradshaw talent in the fold. Nowadays, you need 2 RBs and the Ward part of Bradshaw/Ward doesn’t thrill me.
Thanks,
March 31st, 2008 at 12:27 pm
I think a lot of people forget about the past way too often. Just using this as an example, but . . . the colts won the superbowl and following that, their secondary was picked apart by other teams who thought these CB’s just won a super bowl and were real good players. Anyone see harper get lit up all season last year??? We get caught up in the moment and the ” what have you done for me recently” mentality of things and we forget who makes this team- the NEW YORK GIANTS! Shockey is one of those such players and while he has his problems, I cant see us relying on a 2nd year player just bc he made a couple plays after shockey went down. I say keep them both, we will be better in the long run. We dont have that many holes to fill. Pick up a safety with our first or second pick and we should be ready to defend our title. GO BLUE!
April 1st, 2008 at 8:23 am
Id trade Shockey for Whitner straight up. I was at the Bills/Giants game this year which many view as the turn-around game for the SB run and Whitner looked real good. Much of the Giants success that day was from Edwards INT’s and the running game. I would have taken him over D Hall or keeping Wilson any day at their prices.
April 1st, 2008 at 9:39 am
What we love about Shockey is the whole problem - his intensity is his downfall. He does not have a low gear, and constantly taking on tacklers and giving as good as he is getting has taken a permanent toll on his body. As good as he is, he is still only human, and I can confidently forecast that he will not play a full season again this year, and will be banged up and slowed for other games. He is only one good hit away from the IR, and he is not getting any younger. The smart money says, like the smart commentators here, to get what you can for Shockey while he still has good trade value.
I am sure that if Shockey is traded, he would have some monster games for his new team. But he would end up injured again, slowed down even further, and that much closer to the end. You are paying big dollars to a guy whose contributions are going to be increasingly limited, and that is just not smart business.Yes, it would hurt to trade the guy, but it would hurt a whole lot more to pay superstar money to an injured player and not be able to replace the roster spot with a competent starter because the dollars are tied up in the injured player. If the Giants get a decent offer for him, it is time to say goodbye, sadly, but the best move in the long run. It is the same logic that applied to Luke Petitgout, and most fans at the time could not believe how stupid the Giants were to let that guy go after all he had done for the Giants and not an obvious guy available to replace him. But JR knew what he was doing, and it was the right call. That is why I think he will trade Shockey for a decent offer in return, and it would be the right move.

donte whitner is OVER-RATED!!!!!!!! he misses just as many tackles as james butler!!! i live in Rochester, NY so we get ALL the bills games they’re like GOD here. take it from me this would not be a fair trade. too often u guys think guys drafted high are superior players. THIS IS NOT TRUE ESPECIALLY IN THIS CASE!!! i was at that bills/giants game (coldest i ever been in my life we were SOAKED), THIS GUY GOT BURNED BY BRANDON JACOBS!!!!!!!!! Ahmad Bradshaw made him look like Aunt Jamima!!! HE is the reason they lost that game to that monday night game to the dallas cowfags this year!!! he is the very definition of a high-error/playmaker player. the lavar arrington of safeties i.e. does his own thing a lil too much. he would drve TC nuts!!!
