Giants Sign Undrafted Free Agent S Nehemiah Warrick Among Others
Fresh out of the war room, Giants GM Jerry Reese has gone ahead and signed undrafted free agent safety Nehemiah Warrick. I don’t know too much about the guy, but from what I’ve read, Warrick is a great athlete with good size (6′1″, 208 lbs.) and speed. He is very physical, can play well against the run, and has a good upside. A lot of his flaws have to do with the fact that his game is still kind of raw, having played only two season in division one. His mechanics are not great, he does not always do a great job wrapping up the ball-carrier, and he sometimes looks hesitant and out of sync on the field. Lastly, Warrick, though a former wide receiver and cornerback, does not have great hands, recording zero interception in his 2-year, 23-game career with the Spartans.
In his first season after transferring from Hutchinson to Michigan State, Warrick had 45 tackles and three pass breakups in 11 games. In his senior year he recorded 61 tackles and three pass breakups in 12 games. Aside from a minor leg and knee injury which only sidelined him one game each, he has been injury free.
Warrick, who was clearly upset with not being picked in any of the 7 rounds in the draft, appears to be extremely motivated to go out and prove to GMs that they made a mistake. He’s also very excited to be part of the New York Giants team and anxious to compete for a job on the team.
Here’s what Warrick had to say regarding the situation, as per BradentonHerald.com:
“I want to get in there and compete,” he said. ‘This is my job. . . . It’s time to tighten up right now.’
“I’m a New York Giant.”
In his conversation with Coughlin, the Coach told the safety that after looking through his tapes, he felt he would fit in nicely with the team’s system.
“He said a lot of great things about me,” said Warrick. “I’m blessed to be part of the organization.”
Surely, Warrick plans on reporting to rookie camp, which is a little over a week away.
“That gives me a few days to regroup,” he said. “I’ve got a new home now.”
Here’s a nice video I dug up that demonstrates the hard-hitting ability of this young player. Enjoy.
Hopefully he’ll make for some nice competition. It will definitely be interesting to see if he makes the team. He’s at least someone to keep your eye on. For now, welcome to the NFL and the New York Giants, Mr. Warrick. More on the Giants actual draft picks to come…**Updates** According to the Sun-Sentinal, The Giants have also signed undrafted free agent Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman Andrew Bain. There should be some interesting competition in camp to look out for this season, so stay tuned.
According to The Star-Ledger, the Giants have signed OL Glenn “Digger” Bujnoch out of Cincinnati and DE Wallace Gilberry out of Alabama. Bujnoch plays every position on the line, including TE. Gilberry (6′3″, 263 lbs) has nice size but needs to add more bulk.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Giants have signed DE Antonio Reynolds out of Tennesse. Reynolds also has good size (6′3″, 266 lbs.) and plays alright against the run but lacks ideal burst and pass-rushing ability. Reynolds totaled 31 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and an interception in 2007 after a season in which he recorded 37 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack in 2006.
The Giants have reportedly signed two more undrafted free agents in OT Dylan Thiry out of Northwestern and Carnell Stewart out of LSU. Thomas, who won Northwestern’s Spirit Award, was a big contributor in the team’s top passing attack, which also lef the big ten in total offense. Stewart is also good against the pass but is sometimes overpowered on the line.**Updates**
These names will continue to pile up over the next coming days so check back for more updates.

We need to sign either Tommy Blake or Erin Henderson. give those guys a shot

The video shows this guy is good at using his helmet to make a hit. Unfortunately, this would be a penalty in the NFL, and possibly a suspension. I hope this player has more tricks up his sleeve than what this video shows.

Add Nate Robinson to the list, he was the top DT prospect in the class of 2003.

I think we need to sign Ryan Grice-Mullen out of Hawaii. He was the leading receiver on Hawaii last year and would fit nice in the slot due to the lack of production from Sinorice Moss.

G-force - Thanks for update on Erin Henderson.
Anyone out there hear anything on another undrafted LB - Ali HighSmith?? How about undrafted WR Adarius Bowman??
April 28th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Jim Tom,
Bowman signed with the Eagles. Highsmith signed with the Cardinals.
Giants have offered a contract to DJ Hall, WR, Alabama. However, he has not yet signed.

Warrick also looked pretty fluid in the combine drills. I could see him press Butler for a spot.

If Terrell Thomas can stay healthy I am getting more comfortable with this draft. I think the giants need to sign more OTs. There were some highly rated ones left undrafted. Remember, if Diehl gets injured, there goes the season. We need depth at tackle. Other than that we are very strong at TE, QB, RB, WR, DT, DE, LB, CB, and S. I think the only weakness is OL depth.

Kiper at ESPN just gave us a C+ for this years draft. He gave us a C- last year and we all know how that one worked out…

I have a bunch more if you want them

War Room analysis on Warrick
Strengths: Is a good athlete. Against the run, is physical and strong at the point of attack. Shows good short-area burst to close quickly on ballcarriers. Is tough and competitive. Has outstanding speed, and covers a lot of ground with a smooth stride. Is strong enough to play the ball in traffic. Shows loose hip and knee movement in coverage.

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is athletic and well-built. Is productive against the run and pass, getting off the snap and into plays quickly. Shows quickness to get inside reach blocks, keeping blockers on his back while chasing down ballcarriers. Shows good strength at the point of attack; sheds blocks and makes a lot of tackles. Hustles and chases down a lot of ballcarriers. When bull rushing aggressively, shows strength to jolt offensive tackles with punch and drive them back into the quarterback. Is smart and instinctive, reading and reacting to plays quickly. Carries out containment assignments.

53 man roster
April 28th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Here is my projected 53 man roster for 2008
The starters are highlighted in red, back ups are listed as dept chart. Training camp position
battles are yellow. I elected to retain 4 RBs, 6 LBs, 6 WRs and 6 CBs. I think last year proved
are type of running also wares down our RBs along with the opponents D. Hedgecock is all we
need at FB. Dept chart would have our 3rd TE as back up FB. O line stays the same which is a
GREAT thing. The only reason I kept 6 WRs is because of the contributions of Tyree on Spec.
teams. Jennings is highlighted because I think he will beat out Moss and Hixon for the final WR
spot. Lets be honest if Jennings is healthy what do we need moss for. If neither Jennings nor
Moss is healthy, then Hixon stays. I really liked his returns last yr. D linemen are the same
which again is a GREAT thing. Tomlinson will compete with Henderson for the back up spot
unless Kiwi is thrown back at DE. This would affect the entire def roster. At DT I would like to
see somebody compete with Leisle for the final DT spot. SLBs Zak’s versatility will keep him on
this roster for yrs to come. If Kehl can pick up the scheme quickly look for him to be behind
Kiwi on the dept chart and Zak will contribute by way of spec. teams. MLB is interesting with
the battle between fans favorite Chase and newcomer Goff. If the scenario at SLB materlizes, it
could make Chase’s spec. teams contributions expendable. If Goff can show signs of truly
becoming a starter one day then Chase a career back up is gone. My feeling is Chase is on the
squad next yr. The WLB position battle will be intense. I think Clark will start the season, but
look for Gerris to take over possibly by week 4 or 5 for good. I really like our DB situation I
have Madison Green because he truly is our leader in the backfield. Even last yr when he was
injured he was on the sidelines coaching. This will be Sam’s last yr and I hope somewhere
down the line we can have this guy coaching our DBs. Madison could start. But I see Ross and
Webster as our starters the majority of the yr. I kept 6 CBs because of Madison’s age which is
far outweighed by what he brings to our team, not to mention he can still play. Pope will
probably beat out R.W. and Barnett. I would like to thank R.W. for his contributions during the
Championship run. He had a big int. in Dallas and had really good returns, BUT I almost
coughed up my heart when McQuarters would fumble after a big return. At Safety I like MJ
learning from Knight. All Sammy has done over the course of his career is his JOB! Really good
pro. #1 will start the season as just that at FS and I will stand by opinion. Although I think
Phillips will have a very good career, I believe Tyrell Johnson’s will be better. Finally, I think
Butler will beat out UDFA Nehemiah Warrick. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK AND OR
CRITISIZM. That is what this site is bout exchange ideas, thoughts and opinions.

CJ - Thanks for closing the loop on Adarius Bowman and Ali Highsmith. Too bad they were signed by NFC rivals. I didn’t hear about the DJ Hall news. Looks like you have been following the college prospects more than me. Much appreciated

izland giants:
nice projection, but i think their 5th round lb is def sticking, if anything blackburn is more likely to be cut.

WHO THE HELL ARE THESE CLOWNS WERE SIGNING. WE SHOULDA BEEN ALL OVER ERIN HENDERSON
April 29th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Carlos–I assume Henderson wanted to be with his brother.
April 29th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
izland - here are my thoughts on your roster:
1) Only 9 o-linemen? i think there will be at least one back-up per position
2) Darcy over Matthews? My man “M-n-M” was a crushing blocker and he should make the roster as the blocking TE
3) I think Goff has more upside and will beat out Blackburn for that final LB spot
4) Henderson will make this roster as a DE over Tollefson. He was nothing special last year and Henderson can play DE or DT.
5) You are dead on with the WR group. With Smith, Tyree and Jennings all able to play the slot, the Sinorice Moss experiment is just about over unless there is another injury. I’d like to see Jennings catch punts too since it looks like RW will be cut loose.
April 30th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Jim Tom- You are welcome. I have been scouring the Internet for any news of undrafted FA’s since I had a list of names I was interested in for the G-Men, including Bowman, Hall and Highsmith, among others.
kingly- I think you are spot on with Matthews and Henderson and I expect those two will be on the roster. Goff too; I love Blackburn but I agree Goff has a lot more upside.
Moss- would love to see a healthy competition between him and Jennings for punt returner.
Overall I like the current depth on this team, save for perhaps OL.
