Taylor to Jacksonville rumors rise again
Several weeks ago, I said that the Jaguars were going to make a move for Miami Dolphin’s DE Jason Taylor. The rumors died down since I wrote that, which was surprising because Jacksonville desperately needs some pass-rush help. Well, the speculation has heated up again, as Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported on his blog that the Jack Del Rio is interested in acquiring Taylor.
Salguero cites two sources, an NFL scout and an assistant coach, and while this information won’t make it to ESPN’s ticker, it was enough to catch my attention.
As I said before, the Jaguars are too close to the Super Bowl to not cash in their chips now. Bringing in Taylor would be a monumental move for Jacksonville and his presence alone would push the Jaguars into elite status. Taylor will be 33 when the season begins, but he isn’t your typical 33-year-old. Taylor is in great shape, still has a high motor and won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year two seasons ago…he still has it.
Jacksonville has been burnt by DE acquisitions before, i.e Hugh Douglas, but Taylor is a completely different bread than Douglas. Taylor has been performing at a high level through his entire career, as opposed to Douglas who picked things up just a couple seasons before his contract with Philadelphia ran out.
However, the cost of bringing in Taylor might be too steep for the Jaguars and that might be the holdup between the two teams. Miami will want a 2nd and maybe a 4th for Taylor’s services and Jacksonville might (and I stress might) be willing to give up two thirds. If the two teams can’t reach an agreement, I don’t see either side breaking.
Just because speculation has arisen again doesn’t mean the trade will happen, but it does mean that the Jags are looking, which is a good thing because they won’t find a difference making end with the 26th pick in the draft. Minnesota might also be a contender for Taylor’s services and they are reportedly willing to give up a 2nd and 3rd. This would likely take the Jags out of the running because they would likely be unwilling to give this much up for a 33-year-old, no matter how talented he might be.
I’ll keep you updated on the Taylor rumors, and while I can’t say for sure that he will make the switch from aqua to teal, I can guarantee that the Jaguars will continue to search for a defensive end to help give them one of their missing ingredients to a Super Bowl run.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything to happen between now and draft day. If the Jaguars pull the trigger, it will more than likely wait until then so that they can determine whether or not the trade is even necessary.
There are other scenarios that have them trading up into the middle of the first round to go after Harvey out of UF if he falls past a certain point.
I doubt they’d pull together any sort of trade if that scenario played out, especially since the cost of moving up a dozen or so spots in the draft would be pretty significant to begin with.

there is no way i would trade a second and a forth round pick for a 33-year old player no matter how great he is, i would say jason taylor is my personal favorite defensive end ever, yes i would go as far to say ever because he is great and i would love to see him come to the the jags. i would agree to maybe a 3rd and 4th, r maybe just my 2nd but 2nd and 4th, might i add and the past we have had better lucke drafting players in 2nd 3rd and 4th then any other picks……………….just sayin.

Tim, if the trade doesnt happen and there is a good chance it wont, but if it doesnt, I think the jags still look to make a trade up in the draft, say for Harvey or Merling out of Clemson. The Jags could only get up to around 19th or 20th in the draft without giving up their second and both thirds, so we’ll see what happens. That might be enough to get Merling though.
BK, I think the Jags feel the same way you do. They wont give up a 2nd and 4th for Taylor…maybe a 2nd like you said or a 3rd and two 5th’s, but that will likely be as far as they bend
