Rogers Traded to Bengals
Be careful what you wish for.
While agent Kennard McGuire has said he and Shaun Rogers would welcome a trade, a deal to the Bengals may be a different kind of cat, but with just as much meow.
Cincinnati is giving Detroit a third and fifth round draft picks for the sometimes amazing, sometime un-fazing defensive tackle. Had Rogers been on the Lion roster come Saturday, he would have been due a $1 million bonus.
Rogers has been OUTSTANDING at times and has been to two Pro-Bowls. He played the first six games of last season at an all-pro level and then would disappear not only in games, but for games at a time. He would often come out of the line-up winded due to poor conditioning and sometimes at the least opportune times for the Lions. His inconsistent play had to have a hand in Cory Redding’s spotty performance, although we cannot lay all of it at Rogers’ door.
While the Vilma trade possibility ended with the Jets sending him to the Saints for an undisclosed draft choice, the Lions will continue to be active and may have running back Michael Turner in for a look see as well as corners Brian Kelly (Tampa Bay) and Drayton Florence (San Diego).
