Lions - Rd 5 (136)- Kenneth Moore, WR, Wake Forest

With the 136th selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select Kenneth Moore, wide receiver from Wake Forest.
Without a sure fire plan to bring back Troy Walters, the Lions make a pick here to add a solid punt returner with some receiving credibility as well. Having a breakout season in 2007, Moore moved himself into draft contention by leading the ACC in receptions with 98 (9th in the country) for 1,011 yards, only the third time in school history a receiver has eclipsed the 1,000 mark. He scored five touchdowns.
In 2006, he played some halfback and rushed for 507 yards on 105 carries. In ‘07, he gained 316 yards on 44 carries (7.2 avg) for another three scores. He returned 35 punts for 355 yards and another touchdown. He was second in the conference with 142.6 all-purpose yards per game.

Admittedly as a life-long WFU fan, I’m not entirely objective, but you Lion’s fans got a DEAL in your ability to snag Kenny Moore in the 5th round. This guy can do it all. He’s a phenomenal receiver. he can return punts, and was arguably the Deacons’ best RB (although Josh Adams ain’t bad). The problem for the Deacons is they couldn’t clone him. The only explanation that I can think of is that the Deacons lost a few games they should have won, i.e. Nebraska, Virginia, etc…, and he fell off of the radar. But even when the Deacons were really bad, Kenny was really good. You guys are lucky. He will be a star in the NFL. Now go out and get somebody decent to throw to him.

I agree. Being a Lion fan, I am usually blind and eternally optimistic, but I also am a big proponent of production and Moore definitely had that. Though the running joke with the Lions is always about wide receivers, Moore will be part of the team’s future.
