Numbers are a beautiful thing in Green Bay
149 wins. 417 career touchdown passes. The first is a record, the second is 3 away from a record. The most important numbers for Brett Favre however is 2-0. That would be a 2-0 start for his Green Bay Packers. Even the most die hard fans were hard pressed to imagine this season starting out like this for the Packers.
With a 35-13 win over the New York Giants on Sunday, the Packers have won their last six regular season games and the first two this season. The defense remained solid and the special teams continued to be a vast improvement over last season. This day belonged to Favre and the offense though.
Favre was 29-38 for 286 yards with 3 touchdown passes and only 1 interception. Favre completed passes to 8 different receivers, including a team high 8 to Donald Driver. Rookie running back DeShawn Wynn had 2 touchdown runs, including a 38 yard scamper in the fourth quarter.
The young players have stepped up big time. Vernand Morency and Greg Jennings will hopefully return next week to give Favre more weapons to utilize.
The Packers return to Lambeau Field next week to face the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers possess one of the league’s best defenses and will provide another huge challenge for a young Packers squad.

I’m so happy we started out 2-0. It will make next week easier to swallow if we can’t pull off the upset.

Yes, it’s nice to have these first two wins with the Chargers next week. With the two games after that being against the Vikings and Bears, we could really shock a lot of people.

I believe as the season moves forward the offense will improve.I look for probably 12-4 season record Divisional champs and run for the super bowl.

I’m looking at probably a 10-6 finish if they continue to improve. But, heck, if they beat the Chargers next Sunday, who incidentally look like crap compared to their ‘06 team, then johnnie holston’s prediction may be more plausible. Favre, after the game, said something close to this: “Do I think we’re a better team than the Chargers? No. Do I think we can beat the Chargers? Absolutely.”
I see the Packers dropping one next week against the Chargers, then splitting against the Vikings and Bears. Other potential losses may come against the Panthers, @ Broncos, @ Dallas. And maybe even one at the hands of Detroit, who always seem to steal a close one from us.
This starting 2-0 business is really exciting. Rob Davis, their long-snapper, said that a confident feeling that they can win every game is permeating the lockerroom for the first time in years. I think following next week’s game Packer fans will have a much better idea of what kind of team Green Bay actually is. Will they step up and contain LT the way Chicago and NE have done in weeks 1 and 2? If so, and the Pack come out with a win, then some serious playoff talk will commence. If not, it’ll be 2-1 going into week 4 in the always difficult Metrodome.

The “I think I can, I think I can” mentality goes a long way…this weekend will undoubtedly be a true litmus test of how good of a team we really are….the good thing is we are young and hungry, and have good depth and all defensive positions….

I’m still not looking that far ahead to predict a final record. This start is too surprising and far too enjoyable to worry about 3 months from now.
I think the Chargers will be a difficult game to win, but if they do, watch out. I agree with Andy about a split between the Vikes and Bears. I don’t think anyone can honestly say they thought the Pack would be off to this good of a start.
The best part of it all is that the offense still has a long way to go to get to where they can be.

Realistically the Pack could, or maybe even should be 1-1. I think the D is pretty awesome but we need to see the offense do what they did Sunday on a consistent basis. I agree with Jesse that I need to see a few more weeks of this to throw out 12-4 predictions. My inner fan says 16-0 until the first loss comes. These next 3 weeks will be a huge test and litmus for the rest of the season. I think we can, I think we can!
