Offseason in full swing for Green Bay
While most newspapers in Wisconsin are still dealing with the mania that has become Brett Favre’s retirement, an interesting thing happened: The organization is still running.
With that said, here are some interesting things that the Green and Gold have been up to.
1. Brunell and Gray visit Green Bay. Former Packer quarterback Mark Brunell visited Green Bay within the last two weeks, only to sign with New Orleans soon after. However Quinn Gray, the former backup QB in Jacksonville, has visited Green Bay. Gray would be a good fit, as he is dependable and could be a quality backup to Rodgers, and would be more than the average starter should Rodgers go down to injury.
2. White to stay in Green Bay. The Packers signed Tracy White, the backup linebacker and special team pro, signed a two-year 1.8 million dollar contract. White has been the most productive player on special teams over the last two seasons, and has slowly improved on the defensive side of the ball at outside linebacker.
3. Packers make contact with Poppinga. Green Bay is trying to lock up outside linebacker Brady Poppinga to a long term deal, and took the first step in that process last Friday. Neither side is close, but it is always better to start sooner rather than later in these types of deals. With Brandt gone, this is the first big test for new money man Russ Ball. Some people thought that the Corey Williams trade was somewhat of a surprise, but turning a sixth-round draft choice into a second round pick is always a good thing.
4. Draft buzz. There is always talk of the draft as soon as the season is over. Most mock drafts have the Packers taking a defensive back in the first round, which would be a good choice. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was originally that guy, but has shot up the draft boards after the combine. He could be the next Mario Williams–a talented player who benefits from overblown hype. But if Cromartie is available, Thompson wouldn’t hesitate to grab him.
As for the second round, having two picks is always a plus. But don’t be surprised if Thompson trades one or both to move down and acquire more. However, it also wouldn’t be a shock for the Pack to sit still and use both to draft offensive line and a running back.

I would not be surprised if the Pack took a TE this year first or second round. Rodgers needs an outlet and after Lee the Pack is thin. Its great news that Ted is reaching out to players we have an locking them up. With all this money laying around I would hope he would be doing a lot of signings with the young talent that we have. I’m starting to already get excited for the draft. Then again, I think I’ve been mad after almost every TT draft thus far. He keeps proving me wrong. I hope he keeps it up.

I hope that the Packers draft some taller defensive backs. So often the wide receiver on the other team seems to tower over guys like Al Harris. Somewhat of a mismatch.
Also, I hope a rule is passed requiring players to cut their long hair. I hate the long hair!
But I trust men like Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy to make good draft choices. They sure know the team better than fans like myself.
A year ago, many fans like myself wondered why Justin Harrell was chosen. With the loss of Corey Williams, it now looks like a very wise pick.
When the Packers played in Dallas, they could not lay a hand on Tony Romo. When the Giants played there, they were all over him. I wonder what the difference is!
