Oakland Raiders sign Kwame Harris, looking at Javon Walker
The Oakland Raiders finally got their deal done with tackle Kwame Harris that was originally reported then recanted on pft.com on 29 February. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that the Raiders are looking at Javon Walker. Both of these moves directly target areas of need for the Raiders. The Raiders missed out on the Bernard Berrian sweepstakes, but landing Walker would be a very nice consolation prize.
Kwame Harris was signed for a 3 year $16 million deal according to rotoworld.com. The Raiders need help along their offensive line, whether or not Harris will be the replacement for Sims at left tackle or not remains to be seen. It will be up to Tom Cable to get him coached up in the Raiders scheme to see how he fits.
Javon Walker could provide the Raiders with a consistent receiver to go along with JaMarcus Russell's cannon arm. The question is whether or not he is past his injuries. The change of scenery should do him some good as it will help him create some space with the death of his friend Darrrent Williams in his arms. Hopefully, the Raiders can bring him in for a lesser deal than the Vikes gave Berrian, but that remains to be seen. If Walker wants any revenge on Mike Shanahan and the Denver Broncos, Oakland is the place for him.
Stay tuned to Thoughts from the Dark Side for updates and thoughts as the Raiders' offseason continues. If you would like to contribute an article on the Raiders to Thoughts from the Dark Side, email me at mvnraider at yahoo.com.

Thank God!! Picking up FA's at tackle and WR gives us more flexibility to pick up the best player on the board in the draft, not just fill gapping holes.

Did Sims sign with anyone? We'll probably get him back for less $ anyway so another good pick up here. It's been so frickin long since we had a brain - it feels good this year. I was pleased with the draft picks last year as well. It didn't quite shake out great but JRuss and #80 will be the real deal. If Bush pans out - we're looking competitive again.

Pleased with the potential of last year's draft is how I would describe it.
The obvious are Jruss and Clark. Question marks on Bush. Higgins didn't exactly step it up when given th opp. Moses was a dud...would have been nice to see Henderson last year.
Time will tell.

This is such a good move I belive Harris can do verywell in zone block he has lots of up side & he is smart kid just needs the right team & system he was a 1st round pick & cable knows what he wants out of o-line so thats good enough for me, I just can't wait to see how Henderson turns out!

Very good signs! We have a #1 Wr to go into next year with, now it's not a serious problem going into the draft. I know alot of Raider fans don't like Kwame cuz how he played with the 49ers, but he's young and was a first round talent, and we must give him a chance in a different system that he may play well in. I do know one thing, he will definetly play physical and open holes for our run game. If we have any money to spare, I would really like for the Raiders to sign blocking TE Jason Dunn whom the Chiefs have recently released. He's the best blocking TE in the game in my opinion, and would help greatly in our run game next year. I hope we take a look at veteran OLB Kendrell Bell also. Thanks for making me feel a lil better Mr. Davis.

I'll have my draft scenario for the Nation come tomorrow as it seems we are pretty much done with free agency at the moment.

Anyone actually think that Harris is an upgrade over Sims in pass protection? I don't. He'll probably be better in the run game, but the OL is still pretty porous when they have to take on rushers and keep them away from the QB.

As long as Walker wins us two games against the donkeys he can stick around. He will also love it cuz Raiders never die, they just go to hell and regroup. Welcome to the family. To Kwame- get yourself in the gym so you can be Colonel Cable's new cannonball. Seriously Kwame, I know you are a local and reading this. You don't play for the wine and cheezers anymore, get nasty. JaMarcus needs you and McNasty to get mean on some people for a decade or so.

We now need to land Son of Sam, Chris Long.
I really think the Tuna will pick up a QB, the Rams a OT Jake Long and the Falcons will land Mcfadden. The question is if Dorsey is on the board do we still get Chris Long? I think so, if we can pick up a two gap NT in the second or later rounds mission accomplished. Raiduhs reloading. I must say I did not think Al was going to get a potential #1 WR and OT and that we were going to be left out to dry but I thought we could only do so much this yr. Obviously Al is out to proove something to everyone. As I've said before I think Kiff will stay onboard but most liely as a offensive cordinator even if he has HC title. Al is showing the kid how its done. Just another comment on the ridiculous money being thrown at players. First of all it goes to show the idiot scribes who thought we could not land a FA becuase of our "chaotic" atmosphere in Oakland, even if its mostly the ignorant media who jump on board to bash Mr. Davis for an easy story, players play for money!

Great move for the Raiders. Kwame is a little undersized and doesn't have the power to play RT, so the Raiders obviously want him to compete at LT with Henderson or and maybe a draft pick. Undersized is OK because we run the ZB scheme, and I think this is a definite upgrade on the line.

Any player with potential that comes cheap and will compete in an area of need is a good signing. This means that whomever comes out of camp as the starter, earned that spot and should play well for the team.
Oakfosho when you said that Harris was undersized I was going to say that may be a good thing in this offfense but then you said it.
curiousglll: Who is Clark?
LA Raider: Chris Long's father is not named Sam it is Howie. Just kidding dude. Had to say it. I too am thinking there is a real distinct possibility that they will get Chris Long. I have waited and hoped for that to happen for such a very long time. All signs point to him being our guy too with the signing of Kelly longterm and letting Clemons go. I am crossing my fingers of the next line of Long in that end spot. And the cycle begins anew.
RaiderKev: Jason Dunn is horrible. He was ALREADY a Raider back in 03 and he sucked then too. But I suppose that is before your time.

What a great pick-up!!!!! And i'm not just talking about the recent two, gibril will make our secondary so good,it gives huff a sidekick that can really play! i must say, I HOPE WE DRAFT MCCFADDEN!!!! did u not see what peterson did for the vikings? it will take the pressure away from JRussell, and will help to keep his confidence up and better his development.

Everyone keeps talking about Peterson when they mention McFadden. As if the two have ANYTHING to do with one another. Peterson is his own man as is McFadden. What do people think they are drinking the same koolaid or came from the same bionic surgeon or something? I mean please tell me what the hell one has to do with the other? That is like saying: "Don't ever draft an OT in the first round. Look at Gallery! He was a bust so that means they are ALL busts. Joe Thomas, Tony Boselli, Orlando Pace ALL BUSTS!! All top pick Running Backs are Peterson and all Top pick Tackles are Gallery." Makes perfect sense! Why didn't I see it before? Perhaps because I am not that crazy homeless guy yelling at someone at someone on the street who isn't there.

Besides, why should the Raiders waste a first round pick on a Running Back when a guy like Fargas can gain a thousand yards in that system? And then we have Bush waiting in the wings. In all of the years that Denver had thousand yard backs every season only ONE was drafted in the first round and then a couple years later they used him as trade bait with the Skins to get Chump Bailey. Straight up trade. Why? Because they knew they didn't need a great running back with the zone. Just certain types of backs and Fargas and Bush are PERFECT for it. They are Olandis Gary and Mike Anderson. But even better. Plus let us not forget that Bush would have been a top 5 pick last year if he hadn't gotten hurt. So we have our "Peterson" guy already as it turns out. So no more talk of filling a position we just resigned a player for and let's focus on more pressing needs.
