Raiders signings addressing needs, whats left to get?
The Oakland Raiders have had a busy start to the free agent signing period. They franchised Nnamdi Asomugha and locked down Tommy Kelly and Justin Fargas. On the addition side of the ledger, the Raiders added Gibril Wilson, Kwame Harris, and Javon Walker. Jerry Porter, Tyler Brayton, and Josh McCown have already signed elsewhere, while Barry Sims is on the market. As of right now, the Raiders are better in some areas and questionable in others.
Quarterback: The Raiders lost Josh McCown who was expected to resign and back up JaMarcus Russell next season. The Raiders would be wise to find a vet to fill that void. They have Andrew Walter as a back-up, but can't really call him a vet. CHANGE: Minor loss.
Wide Receiver: The Raiders lost Jerry Porter, which is addition by subtraction. They added Javon Walker. Walker is a definite upgrade over Jerry Porter. The Raiders do need some more depth at this position, and may look for it in the draft. CHANGE: Definite upgrade
Offensive Line: The Raiders let the warhorse left tackle Berry Sims go. His skills have been in decline and it was time to move on. The Raiders signed Kwame Harris from San Francisco ostensibly to fill that void. Harris never lived up to his expectations there, so it remains to be seen if he will be an upgrade or even a starter. CHANGE: Hard to say.
Defensive Line: The Raiders held on to Tommy Kelly who was one of their best players on the defensive line last season. They have lost both Tyler Brayton and Chris Clemons to other teams, and have not yet grabbed any replacements. CHANGE: Downgrade
Defensive Backs: The Raiders retained one of the top cover corners in the game in Asomugha, now the trick is to get him locked down to a long term deal. The Raiders also added the best safety in Gibril Wilson. CHANGE: Strong Upgrade.
The key areas left for the Raiders to address are the defensive line, offensive line, and at least one more wide receiver.
On the defensive line the Raiders need a space eating nose tackle and depth at end. Gerrard Warren is a pass rushing defensive tackle as is Tommy Kelly. The Raiders need a young Ted Washington type tackle to redirect the run and take up blockers. Don't count out Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey becoming Raiders on draft day. If Chris Long falls to four, he will be a Raider.
The Raiders need a replacement for Barry Sims. If they think that Kwame Harris will be that replacement, then so be it. I doubt they are banking on a sudden quantum leap from Mario Henderson. They could be hoping to pick up Jake Long or Ryan Clady on draft day. The Raiders have not yet resigned Jeremy Newberry, and their faith in Jake Grove is uncertain.
Javon Walker was a huge addition, as the Raiders needed a playmaking wide receiver. The problem is that behind Walker and Curry there is virtually no experienced players at the wide out position. Chris McFoy? Johnnie Lee Higgins? The Raiders may look to draft a pass catcher with their second pick.
Overall, the Raiders needed a safety so they got the best one on the market. The Raiders needed a wide receiver, so they got the best one on the market. Yes, the Raiders may have overpaid, but when you are shopping at Macy's or Bloomingdale's you are going to pay a lot more than if you are shopping at Wal*Mart or Target. The Raiders went after the top guys at their position, and they had to pay the high end premium.

OH MY LORD PATRICK!!! ARE YOU ON SPEED!!! I leave for 20 hours, come back to check my favorite Raider Blog, and you have gone berserk with like three posts. Are you on Crack! Good work man, and I am really excited about both these signings, and all the rest so far this off season. Sure we took some gambles (Kelly, Walker), and overpaid in some cases (Kelly, Walker, Gibril), but all of these are direct Raiders needs in a competitive market.
Oh Happy Day!

Patrick, I'm going to have to disagree about two things.
First, Walker cannot be counted on as a genuine upgrade until it's clear that he's healthy. If that is the case, then it's a major upgrade -- but if his knee is still balky, he's an expensive roster burden.
I'm also going to go out on a limb and call McCown a major loss. the position has been upgraded, because an inexperienced Russell probably projects as immediately a match for an experienced McCown, in terms of simply playing the game, but I'd much rather have McCown backing up Russell than Walter. First, Walter has checked out mentally, which was pretty evident in his limited playing time last season. He doesn't want to be there, and if he can be moved, then I say get rid of him.
McCown, on the other hand, has a good attitude and, were he at any other position, would be described as having a "great motor." He doesn't have the skills or the on-field recognition to be a great starting QB, but he competes and plays hard every time he's on the field. That's the kind of effort you want around as an example, and as poorly as McCown can see the field from behind the line, he possesses excellent recognition from the sideline. As a clipboard carrier, he'd have been invaluable to Russell, talking over photographs with him during defensive series, pointing out things that he could see from the sideline that Russell will need to learn to see from the field. I've a hunch that McCown will make an excellent QB coach after his admittedly mediocre playing career is over.
The Harris signing still irks me a bit, though, since his strength complements the Raiders' overall line strength -- run blocking. The Raiders added a player that is capable of doing what they can do, rather than what they can't -- pass block. A lateral move, at best, as it is right now. I'd love for Harris to prove me wrong, and I hope for it, but as of right now, I'd rate that move a "push."

Oh, and as far as needs:
DT, DE, OL, WR and SLB. Obvious.

Walker an upgrade?!?!
Are you nuts!!
If anything this just showcases the issues that are going on in the front office. They waited way too long to sign a receiver and lost their chance at a true upgrade with Berrian and now all they had left were a bunch of mediocre receivers and one injured has been asking for way too much money. Naturally we take the greedy has been. So, you keep telling yourself that its an upgrade when next season is half way through and you see Porter's numbers going through the roof as a Jaguar. And yes, Al Davis again will be using his new catch phrase, "Why couldn't he do that for us?"
#6
Posted by Philip, March 5, 2008 5:53 AM
Narcosis80--do you still want Randy Moss on the team? So what if he's playing better for the Pats than he did for us. He was worse than a liability. Porter doesn't fall into that category, but he has always ALWAYS under achieved. He may do well for the Jags, but that remains to be seen. And if he does? So what, he has never lived up to the billing here. Besides, playing well for the Jags or the Pats is not necessarily a fair comparison. Had Moss had Rich Gannon throwing to him and kicking his lazy, unethical, selfish, greedy butt, I think he would have broken Rice's record years ago--and though the Pats receivers weren't all world, Moss did have other receivers that could be thrown to to take pressure off. In short, Porter and Moss may well have been worse here than elsewhere, but part of that is the personal here. I'm sorry to see him go, honestly. But it's not like when Al kicked Marcus Allen to the curb...I mean, I think we should only cry about receivers who have caught 100 balls in one season. And if Walker is healthy and just plays decently it will be an upgrade. Jerry Porter just never was that good here. He wasn't bad, but he really wasn't anything better than average--when he should have been great.

Count you lucky stars that the Raiders didn't sign Berrian! He was always a middle of the road guy and now he is more of a bike path receiver. Walker is healthy, young and has great route running which is very important to a QB like Russell. Even better, the rat was saying that Walker only has one more year in him and that his legs were rot with cracks (X-rays prooved differently), now Walker gets to play against the Donkeys twice a year --- that has got to be a motivator to anybody. Harris is now in a system that he is made for - speed and brains, hit the gap not the defender. Now he can be patient with the 'jump' on snap because he goes where the play is and not trying to beat out the defender. This will stop all of the off-side flags. I like the moves so far and go out and draft me a big mean helmet breaking run stuffer!!!!

Now all we need to do is get a coach. Either the current one, or a different one. Kiffin needs to be involved in these upcoming crucial weeks and so far there is no evidence either way from the organization to show what is going on. If Al is now the de-facto head coach, I hope he announces that in so many words, so that we raiders fans can blame him when he messes up. Or the other possibility, that Kiffin and Al believe responding to allegations based on rumors (truth) is below them. Kiffin does like to keep secrets and aurora of mystery with his game day decisions and perhaps his position as head coach?––to what advantage such a secret would be in the draft only someone far wiser than me, could say.
See you all with a 211 on game day,

Javon Walker three years ago would have been a great signing - now with his injuries he's basically the same player as Porter. Big, Physical, not a deep threat anymore, and he takes plays off/doesn't fight for the ball every play. I can't see how we'd sign him to the same money as Porter. I know we needed somebody proven to go along side Curry, but I would have rather just bit the bullett this year, picked up a cheap vet (like Travis Taylor) or two, a middle or 2nd round (if somebody slips out of the first) draft pick to see if we get lucky. Now we're on the hook for a lot dough over 6 years with a moody veteran who is about to hit 30 - we're not winning the Superbowl this year, so I'd rather take the cheaper route this year so we can continue to build through the draft and add younger pieces through free agency (like SS Wilson at 26 years old) until we're ready to make a playoff run in '09.
I'm sure the Raiders Doctors cleared the guy to play, but I'm also sure Oakland wasn't Walker's first choice on who to play for - well, we'll see what happens - I'd feel better if I knew his contract was structured so we could dump him without much of a cap hit after this year or next year if it doesn't work out.
But Al is trying - point taken, best WR on the market and best SS on the market, so we can dedicate our 1st and 2nd round picks to Defensive and offensive line players this year, or a steal in round 2. Or a reach in round 2 (I can already see Al drafting that unknown running back that ran a 4.2 40 at the combine in round 2).
Anyway, I don't blame Walker for having a bad attitude with green bay who didn't want to pay him or with Shanarat's ego/personal demeanor - hopefully he responds well to Kiff and is healthy. If he is, and still has his deep speed, we just found our #1 WR for the next 3 years.

Al is making it very hard for fans all over the Bay Area to keep the faith.
Tommy Kelly highest DT in football?
Gibril Wilson is good, but was FS a position of such dire straits that we needed to give him that kinda guaranteed money? (and hes never been to a Pro Bowl)
Try not drafting a sh*thead like Huff or Schweigert in the first place- if Al wasnt so infatuated with speed we could have gotten good football PLAYERS at that position, not just guys who run well in tights in February.
And lastly......who in their right mind pays that kind of money to a WR coming off of a year when he couldnt play because a knee injury suffered 2 years ago was still a huge problem?????????
Name 1 other team that woulda paid Walker that money?
Sometimes I wonder how these agents negotiate such a ridiculous deal when its obvious no one else in the league would paid what they gave Kelly and Walker.....and probably Wilson too.

Never question the great Al Davis! And for all you Raider brothers who became a little misguided with the supposed bad treatment of what will be a fine coach one day ( Lane Kiffin ) , once again the Great Al Davis is doing the right thing .
Would you turn your billion dollar business/franchise ovver to a 32 year old ? Of course not .The smart move is to let him excel at what he is best at and surround him with the talent and decision making that he needs to be successful today .
As Kiffin excels at one thing ,the Great Al davis will give him more responsibility and over the years ,Lane will one day be the Great Lane Kiffin , or if he" egos out "like Chucky he will be sent to some nowhere wasteland land like Tampa .
The Raiders are relevant win or lose , because of Al Davis . He is doing the right thing .

Great additions!!! What is everyone whining about the money for you would swear it is cutting into your beer money. That is what free agency is all about and if you want to add pieces to your team you have to pay big money to do it. Berrian grabbed major cash and he was never at the level Walker is - is health a concern? Sure but he will be passing a physical and this guy is a great receiver, not average or waiting to proove himself like Berrian. Who the hell cares about Porter, that guy has never lived up to his own mind plain and simple and did you notice the major weight loss last year - I did!!! He used to be huge and suddenly got a lot smaller and weaker....read into that anyway you want but see Barry Bonds for answers to that obvious body change....see ya!! Thank God he never wore # 81 as he wanted to do, he could not fill out the jock strap.....we have upgraded or maintained key positions and this is very good news for the Raider Nation....complete a good draft and we are much better off. AND leave Huff alone he has played very well in the scheme is is asked to play and continually takes away big play TE's in every game - PAY ATTENTION!!!! Last point J-Rock is starting and McCowns weak arm will not be missed - major franchise upgrade regardless of the backup situation.

Nice article Patrick! 2 Solid signings with Harris and Walker. When Walker is healthy he can be a solid #1 reciever and hopefully a positive leader on the young offense. As for Harris, many people have thier doubts here. But if you go back to some scouting reports from when he was drafted. They are very positive. Mentioning a little undersized but very athletic. I don't know about you guys, but that sounds like Cable's offensive line strategy to me. Lets trust Cable on this one guys. Go Raiders!

too much money? Yes. Just look at all the free agents this year though all seem too high. Walker16 mil guaranteed hmm well if he can play then no problem. We'll get Sims back when nobody wants him. Get Dorsey and Desean Jackson and move on make JRuss earn half the money we're paying him and watch our stud TE develop. Get Bush to play like he can and Fargas Keep curry on track and stop the run! We look better already. We could run but without a Javon Walker they put nine in the box we couldn't stop the run so figure it out!

I have read through this stuff, and there are as many "For" Al Davis' action as there is agin it. I have been a Raider fan for over 40 years, and I have seen a lot of Raider head coaches come and go, but Al Davis needs to let the man do what he hired him to do (and for the period he signed a contract to do it).
If Al didn't think Kiff could do the job in the first place, then he shouldn't have hired him, but he did, so a quick message to Al Davis from a DIE HARD RAIDER FAN "Al go back to your mansion on the hill, relax, and trust your initial instincts about the kid. Let him prove himself over the next two years, and let him build your franchise back into the Winners they truly are. The Raiders that I truly love and enjoy watching play this great sport have not turned into the dismal teams of the past 5-6 years overnight, and coming back from a dismal performance over the past 5-6 years isn't going to be corrected overnight or by changing coaches every year or two. Let the man do his job and see if he can turn things around, after all, can he really do much more damage? I think not. Thanks ,Don - A Loyal Raider Fan !

I agree with just about everything you say here Patrick. I would adjust it a little in a couple of areas though. I actually think Kwame Harris is an upgrade if only for the fact that Sims has proven not to be able to be great at LT for this team. Harris has the potential to be good. And at very least he will create competition and the best player will emerge. So believe this is a slight upgrade at Oline. I would also move the need at Oline down the list a ways. At his moment the order for me would be DE, DT, WR, SLB, OT.
I would also not call Walker an upgrade just yet. As so many people have pointed out, he is coming off an injury and he has never proven he can be the player he was with Brett Favre in GB. Therefore I would say that WR is a "wait and see".
I also agree that losing McCown is a significant loss but he has a chance to start in Miami so I wish him the best of luck. There are decent veterans out there that we can get on the cheap to back up JRock.
The only area that this team is truly solid is the secondary. With Aso, Gibril, Huff, Routte, and Fabs.

**Update** The Raiders next backup QB was just released by the Falcons: Joey Harrington. He is a smart QB with the ability to start and would be an upgrade from Josh McCown or Andrew Walter. This also means that the Falcons have their sights set on drafting a QB with their first pick unless the guy they want is gone at which point they would either draft McFadden, trade out of the spot or hope someone like Brohm falls to them in the 2nd round. Not that any of you cares what the Falcons do.

Update: Newest ESPN Rumor Regarding Raiders!!!
Schlereth, the former Donkey Lineman, stated that he thinks Al is trying to force Lane Kiffin's hand by overpaying on all these FA. The logic being that the Raiders are now financially strapped, and have signed a bunch of guys that Lane doesn't want. Now if Lane chooses to stay it will be with Al's guys, and on Al's terms, and if Lane doesn't win, then he is gone.
Well Donkey, you don't know JACK! I am certainly not going to listen to a Donkey when discussing the Raiders, and that pretty much cancels out ESPN as a whole. Nothing that they have said has come true, and I am interested in the excuses they will use when the Raiders start winning.

Remember we are drafting for the future, the Raiders are going to take McFadden, because in the future the Russell and McFadden and Walker trio will out butts in the seats. There will be other Ellis's, Dorsey's, Long's drafting this kid says good move, especially since your'e not expected to even make a playoff push in 08. Another season with a decent draft positioning, and a few more FA's and were back in 09, 10, 11

If Al's motto is, "just win baby!" then the donkey might is not such a Jack A*s after all. All will try to win at any cost.
A second point: has anyone done the math to see what the Raider's cap is? This information would be really informative on who they might draft, who they need to re-negotiate with, and whether Al really is trying to put Kiffin in a cage?

At his moment the order of need would be for me DE, A good DE is hard to get & a great DE is even harder & we have the pick to get one of the top two of this draft! DT, SLB which I think we must wait until next year draft because there is not enough depth in this year draft & then WR, OT, OC. IF we want more wins get D if you want to sell more seats get O I dont know about you but I dont want to losse anymore!!!!!

Don't like what we are doing in free agency? View it from the Lion fans perspective. I'd like to echo RaiderRandy's comment. It aint your money. I want a winner. Al is making the effort. Kelly is no longer the highest paid D-tackle, Rodgers is. Two years from now, it will be middle of the road. All you haters are probably the same people who were bashing Josh McCown. News flash, Bill Parcells knows more about football than you do. Don't like the negativity surrounding the Raiders? Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution!!

These free agent signings just underscore the freefall of the Raider organization. They are way overpaying for mediocre talent which just shines the light on the fact that the Raiders have been one of the worste drafting teams in the NFL for the past 10 years or so.
Mr Davis has lost all ability to spot talent, and the one and done coaching disasters are equally embarrasing. Unlike the old days nobody wants to coach for or play for the Raiders.
What's left to get? How about a GM with power and a head coach with authority. Until then there is just more of the same.
My vote for draft would be Jake Long (T) and Keith Rivers (LB) for the 1'st and 2'd round if available. I like Kenny Philips at (S) too. Might be interesting to try Huff at cornerback.
Hoping for the best and expecting the worste.

OMG, what is going on with the front office? Walker and Kelly over 100 mil between the 2 of them? Walker??? Is this an expression of sympathy for mediocre players with bad knees or just monumental stupidity? As a long time Raiders fan all I can say is I'm glad I'm also a Patriots fan. At least I'll have something to look forward to this season. Can we waive Al Davis, please?

As someone who is a faithful Raider fan and now living in Denver I am cautiously optomistic about Walker. It was not too long ago that I was laughing at Donkey fans and their loudmouth, crybaby wideout Javon Walker. Walker was making all sorts of comments about how he is under-appreciated and deserves to be the No. 1 wideout even when he wasn't playing. Walker has proven that he can be a better producer on the field than Porter (when healthy), but will he be the same problem in the locker room? If a guy can't get along with Brett Favre, who can he get along with? He's also had 3 knee surgeries in the last few years, and that kept him out of the last half of 2007. Maybe a change of scene from a city where he was in the limo when Darrent Williams was shot will be just what the Dr. ordered. Could be a great pick up, only time will tell.

We have to shore up the D. JRuss is entering his first full season and we have to expect some growing pains. So, like we were expecting last year, our D has to keep us in games so he can develop. Thus a run stopper is needed to go along with what should be a good pass rush. Al has to leave Kif alone and let him do what he hired him to do!

Lurker don't EVER call yourself a Raider fan. You are a bandwagoning fool. You CANNOT be a Pats fan and a Raiders fan. You can't just choose the team that is doing the best and root for them and still call yourself a fan. You have no loyalty and to any team and likely no loyalty in the rest of your life either.

Posted by Lurker88, March 5, 2008 8:01 PM
LDizzle, what are you yammering about? Haven't you ever heard of following more than one team? Not everyone is so mentally inflexible, or impaired, that they cannot like more than one thing at the same time.
I've been a Raiders fan for decades and I'm from New England, so I do not see how you can make such an evaluation of my life based on one post . Don't talk to me about loyalty. I've watched the Raiders for 40 years field every type of team, from the best to the worst, and I'm still behind them. I hope they both succeed this year but I hold no illusions with the Raiders. Particularly when they pay vast sums for average talent with questionable knees, while maintaining an apparent dsyfunctional organization.
But they may surprise me and I hope they do.

Lurker: NO YOU CAN'T! Not when its the cheating Pats, and especially if you try and call yourself a Raider fan. Not only did the refs screw us in the snow bowl with the tuck rule, but chances are the Pats CHEATED on top of that. You and your 'dual team fandom' can take a hike, and you will never be a real member of the nation until you do the following......
1. Burn everything you own associated with the Pats.
2. Take all Raider gear associated with your time as a 'dual team fan' and burn it too. It has been tainted by your association with New England.
3. Kill Yourself
OakFoSho
Disclaimer: Due to the stupidity of many/most/all Pats fans, I take no responsibility for the actions of this Patriots fan if he stupidly follows my advise on #3. Dude, put the gun down! I don't want you to kill yourself, but I am trying to make it clear that there is no way in this life for you to become a Raider fan. You are a traitor, and there is no redemption for traitors. So, just stick with the Pats and never come back!

Amen Oakfosho. Yet one more thing we agree on.
And NO I am not a fan of two teams and neither is any self-respecting person who calls him or herself a fan. Fan is short for fanatic in which case there is not room for more than one team. And as Oakfosho pointed out that goes ten fold when you pair up two teams like the Raiders and the Pats after the Cheatriots snow jobbed the Raiders with tuck rule and then the crybaby bitch quitter WR who will not be named runs over to the Pats at which point he decides to actually EARN his millions. The only two worse teams to root for at the same time would be the Donkeys and Raiders. Who cares if you live in New England?! I live in LA but I stay true to my roots and am still ONLY a Portland Trail Blazer fan. And nothing will make me happier than when the Blazers become a dynasty and I can rub it in all the stupid ass Laker fans faces. It will be well worth the wait. But you will never know that feeling because you jumped ship probably right about 2001 I would guess.
And YES I CAN place a judgement on you based on your ONE post. It is called PRINCIPLE which means that a small seemingly insignificant incident says volumes about a persons character or in this case the lack thereof. Now get to burning that Raider stuff. The Pats can keep you. Don't burn the Pats stuff though. We don't want you going out and buying new stuff and supporting that disgrace of an organization.

Wow! You guys have serious issues! So I guess I can judge you as well, lol. Apparently you haven't grasped the fact that because you hate the Patriots that not everyone else on the planet does as well. Can you possibly think with that? Can you stretch out those two brain cells to encompass a thought outside of 'me Raider fan, me hate everything else!' (grunt)
Quote:"And NO I am not a fan of two teams and neither is any self-respecting person who calls him or herself a fan." Such tunnel vision. Are you sure you can walk and chew gum at the same time? And stop whining about the snow-bowl; it's been over for a few days now. When you're a Raider fan as long as I have been you get used to injustices and bad calls. Live with it. The tuck game is certainly not the first time that's happened us.
Meanwhile, I have two teams to enjoy, in spite of how bad one of them is. Try not to blow a fuse over it.

What is everyone griping about money. You all need to go back and look at the deals. Wilson and Kelly got enough up front to get them to sign. Harris and Walker have backloaded deals with options that don't have to be picked up down the line. All those who think kelly can't play, go check out what Sapp had to say about him. "A monster". And as far as what is going on in the front office, what would anyone on here really know about what is going on in "any" office in the organization. At least efforts are being made to fix our team, good or bad, we will have to see what happens in the draft. McFadden...yeah right. Fargas,Rhodes,Bush and maybe even Jordan. OK there smart guys. Chew on this for a while. If Long Jr. is there at 4, he won't be at 5. The pick...Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State. I said it, and you heard it hear first.

First of all Berrian is YOUNGER THAN WALKER and has great speed while Walker has had 3 surgeries and needs has to go under microfracture surgery soon. I don't mind the signing, it's the signing bonus and guaranteed money as well as the maybe knee I'm miffed about for we could be paying him to gimp up and down the sidelines more so than Walker streaking down the field. We know he has to have surgery and he has issues on being a team player as well. We have to get this schizo phase out of us and stop signing people just to say we signed someone and sign impact players instead of allowing them to remain puzzled (Aso, Clemmons) and don't break the bank signing avg and or injured players (Kelly) or washed up head cases (Walker) but then again it begins with Al Davis so that's why it is what it is.

Rod you said something rather ironic. You said that signing washed up headcases begins with Al Davis. Who himself is the ultimate washed up head case. interesting.

Yeah we over spent for Javon Walker but so be it. Atleast I feel alot better of the signing than an unproven no name receiver. We did better than Chicago did. Marty booker&brandon lloyd? Yeah I feel alot better getting a proven #1 receiver. Javon just been hurt so I'm crossing my fingers that he stays healthy. Wr position will be fine! We will draft WR Dexter Jackson from Applachian State or Harry Douglas from Louisville in the 3 or 4th round. They would be valuable cuz they also are very good kickoff and punt return specialists with speed. We will get another big, vet receiver in free agency later that could be an end zone threat and compliment to our young receivers.

And yeah for all those Deangelo Hall haters, I told u the Raiders should look into signing him. Michael A. Smith said today that the Redskins and the Oakland Raiders are the two leading candidates to trade for him. If we get him? Watch out Afc West, we're back!!!!!!!!!

Raiders 2008 draft(First Scenario if we don't trade with the Cowboys for the 2 first round picks)
1) DT Sedrick Ellis or DT Glenn Dorsey
2) DE Lawrence Jackson
3) WR Dexter Jackson or WR Harry Douglas
4) LOLB Marcus Howard
6 and 7 don't matter cuz they may not make the team

Actually Lurker (doesn't that moniker say it all), you CANNOT be a fan of two teams period. After the great snow robbery, even if you appreciated the PATS play, you had to hate them with real vitriol and continue to hate them. Although we got embarrased in the Super Bowl--for the second time counting SB II--we would have won that year (and should have had the chance). Super Bowl berths are the rarest thing in the world and you don't just shake that off....
If your loyalty is divided go to the PATS we don't need half-a s s commitments from our fans.
But if you really are a raiders fan of 40 years you'll know that the refs have fucked us hard before. Do you remember the playoffs the year after we won the first SB against the Donkeys, I believe, when our guy was called out of bounds when the television replay clearly showed he did not step on the line?
Returning to the subject of being a fan. You can only fanatically love one team, and that means standing with them when they're down--which makes the successes that much sweeter. You can enjoy watching another team play, but, you can only truly (in)vest your heart and soul with one team.

Here's how I see all things Raiders: Al Davis is DONE! Marcus Allen had an thing with Davis' daughter! Harris is a black Sims, a SF 49er HOFer can't stand him! Walker is a lemon! McFadden is a glorified sperm donor who will battle paternity suits over the next 2 years. Jake Long or nothing. Wilson over paid, over rated. OL will be worse than last year. Newberry is a JOKE and he hails from Anitoch, CA: home of speed freaks, Crackers and Rascists (note how many fumbles he created with black QBs Russell and Culpepper under center). No true talented WRs. Sorry, Curry is good at the beginning and fades at the end. Remember, he was a QB in college. Madsen a WR in college, give white bay a shot at his natural position. Russell WILL get pounded. Fargas WILL get hurt. Defense will suck until Ryan, "I can't coach like my dad," is gone. Looking at 5-11 at best, my prediction last year. Here's to getting the top pick in '08. Wake up Raider fans! This team won't be at a championship level until Davis is gone or lets go! Kiffin fired before the draft. No GM / Personnel Director, no stability at the coaching position, no or sub par talent on offense, no true defensive coordinator, low talent on defense = another crappy team via-ing for a high draft pick See you! P.S. Say what you will, I am a Raider fan but not a blind faith follower but a pissed off season tix holder!

How is it that we upgraded at the WR position??! I don't recall signing Randy Moss or trading for Fitzgerald, oh we signed J.Walker another malcontent that was sent packing by two teams has had 3 surgeries and needs microfracture as well as catching a eyepopping 27 catches for 237 yds. Yeah, I'll say we are ready to air it out. If I recall, Porter was our best WR last yr making acrobatic catches and did get deep on several occasionally only to be over or underthrown. At least he did have two good knees and got along with his teammates. Yeah Walker, I don't believe in you but I'd love to be wrong on this but know Al has done it again.
